Abstract: A color cathode ray tube includes an envelope having, a faceplate, light filtering device provided on an outer surface of the faceplate, and a phosphor screen formed on an inner surface of the faceplate. The phosphor screen is composed of red, blue, and green emitting phosphors. The red emitting phosphor is primarily a Y.sub.2 O.sub.3 :Eu phosphor with an Eu activation amount between 3.0 mol % and 9.0 mol % inclusive with respect to a Y.sub.2 O.sub.3 amount as a base material. The light filtering device is provided in front of the faceplate for selectively transmitting light having a maximum absorption wavelength of 575.+-.20 nm in a wavelength range from 400 nm to 650 nm, and satisfies the following relationship: T.sub.min .ltoreq.T.sub.550 .ltoreq.T.sub.530, 1.ltoreq.T.sub.450 /T.sub.530 .ltoreq.2, 1.ltoreq.T.sub.615 /T.sub.530 .ltoreq.2, 0.7.ltoreq.T.sub.450 /T.sub.615 .ltoreq.1.43, T.sub.615 /T.sub.580-600 .gtoreq.1.1, wherein T.sub.450, T.sub.530, T.sub.505, T.sub.615, T.sub.min and T.sub.
Abstract: Photomultiplier tube (10) segmented into a plurality of elementary photomultipliers (11), comprising a photocathode (12), a plurality of elementary electron multipliers (13) of the "apertured sheet" type, and a plurality of focusing electrodes (14) providing the convergence of the photoelectrons emitted by the photocathode (12) towards the elementary multiplier (13). In accordance with the invention, the homologous sheets (15) of the elementary multipliers are realised on one single segmented conductor wafer (16) having a neutral zone (17) separating the active apertured zones (18) constituting the different multipliers (13). The said focusing electrodes (14) can be made from one single conductor sheet (19) in which feedthrough apertures (20) are punched through which the photoelectrons are passed towards the elementary multipliers (13).
Abstract: A flashlight bulb of the type having a sealed envelope from which two pins extend in parallel relationship can be removably mounted in a PR-type base by the use of an insert that fits within the PR-type base and that includes, in addition to the holes for the pins, balls that are urged laterally against the pins by compression springs within the insert. The balls establish electrical contact with the pins and are connected by conductors to the terminals of the PR-type base.
Abstract: A metal halide arc lamp assembly has a configuration which provides improved containment performance in the event that the arc tube bursts. The lamp assembly includes a metal halide arc tube, a cylindrical quartz shroud surrounding the arc tube and a sealed outer envelope enclosing the shroud and the arc tube. The arc tube has press seals with a generally I-shaped cross section. The maximum dimension of the press seals perependicular to the arc tube axis is not substantially greater than the maximum dimension of the bulb portion of the arc tube. The spacing between the outside surface of the bulb portion and the inside surface of the shroud is not greater than about three millimeters.
Abstract: An electroluminescent device comprising a fluophor luminescent layer and a hole transport layer respectively composed of organic compounds and laminated to each other disposed between a cathode and an anode, said fluophor luminescent layer comprising a pair of fluophor thin films laminated in each other, the material of the cathode-side film having a larger electron transport capacity than the material of the anode-side film.

Abstract: A device for accelerating and storing charged particles of the present invention comprises a vacuum duct which has two opposite linear portions and two opposite curved portions respectively connected to the linear portions and which functions to maintain the orbit of revolution of the charged particles in a vacuum; an accelerating device for accelerating charged particles which is disposed on the orbit of the charged particles; a pair of bending magnets which are respectively disposed on the curved portions of the vacuum duct; and a pair of quadrupole electromagnets which are respectively disposed on the linear portions of the vacuum duct and at least one of which is disposed at a position at a given distance from the center of the corresponding linear portion.
Abstract: A cathode structure for an electron gun of a cathode ray tube contains supporting pieces for preventing the detachment of an insulating block that are buried into insertion grooves made in the insulating block. These supporting pieces contact and are welded to the inside of the skirt of the control grid after they are inserted into the control grid together with the insulating block. This provides high stability against external impacts.
Abstract: In-line color display tube with a deflection unit, provided with a twist correction device comprising two permanent magnets which generate magnetic fields with oppositely directed magnetic field components which, at the beginning and the end of a path traversed by each side beam, are transverse to the path of the relevant side beam and are located in the plane of the beams. This provides the possibility of deflecting each side beam once up and once down for compensating twist errors.

Abstract: A tensioned shadow mask/frame assembly includes horizontal top and bottom members and vertical side members. One of the horizontal members is permanently affixed to the side members and the other horizontal member is slideably supported on the side members. The horizontal members are biased apart to put tension on a shadow mask which is stretched across and permanently affixed thereto. The cross sectional configuration of the horizontal members is an acute angle having a long side and a short side joined at a rounded apex to maximize the stiffness of the members.
Abstract: A dispenser cathode for an electron gun comprises a reservoir for holding thermoelectron emissive material. A sleeve having an outward flange at a top portion thereof and receives the reservoir at the upper portion thereof and receives a heating element at the other end. A heat shielding tube is provided with an inward flange at the top thereof that overlaps and is welded to the outward flange of the sleeve. A holder for supporting the heat shielding tube is secured thereto.
Abstract: The discharge tube has an insulating tube formed into a hollow cylinder with one end open and the other closed. An anode electrode, which is formed as a flanged electrode, is hermetically fitted to the open end of the insulating tube and a cathode electrode, which is formed as a bar electrode, is embedded in the closed end of the insulating tube so that only the front end surface of the bar electrode faces the interior of the insulating tube. This construction allows no redundant space within the insulating tube other than the dishcarge space, so that the discharge tube can be minimized in size. This construction also permits a discharge only between the front end of the bar electrode and the inner end of the flanged electrode, stabilizing the electron emission passage or discharge path and therefore the discharge voltage.

Abstract: A post-mask-deflection color cathode ray tube is disclosed that has a strip-type tension foil shadow mask in the form of two intercalated combs providing mutually insulated first and second arrays of strips. Each of the arrays is adapted to receive a different electrical potential effective to cause electron beams passing therethrough to be deflected by the electrical fields created between the strips. A method of manufacturing is also disclosed.
Abstract: A high-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp whose envelope two tungsten electrodes disposed therein of tungsten and a filling containing a rare gas, a quantity of mercury larger than 0.2 mg/mm.sup.3 at a mercury a pour pressure of more than 200 bar and at least one of the halogens chlorine, bromine or iodine in a quantity between 10.sup.-6 and 10.sup.-4 .mu.mol/mm.sup.3. The wall load in operation is higher than 1 W/mm.sup.2.
Abstract: A spark plug for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. A semiconductor material having a resistance of 5.times.10.sup.2 -5.times.10.sup.4 M.OMEGA./mm is coated or baked in the form of a band on the peripheral surface of a basal part of a leg portion of an insulator of the spark plug. Preferably, at least the basal part of the leg portion, including the band, is covered with a water-repellant insulating coating. An inner wall of a metal shell of the spark plug is desirably coated with a water-repellant material at an area facing at least the peripheral surface of the basal part of the leg portion of the insulator.
Abstract: This disclosure concerns electron guns comprising several electrodes, including a cathode. The gun has a device producing a magnetic field, adjustable if necessary, in the vicinity of the cathode. This device works together with one of the electrodes other than the cathode. It cooperates notably with the anode or the wehnelt. This device is either a solenoid or one or more permanent magnets. This device is placed either inside or outside the gun. It can be applied to high-power, "O" type electron tubes.

Abstract: Disclosed is a yellow incandescent bugfoiler pigment coating comprising a fine-ground blend of praseodymium doped zirconium silicate and silica. This cadmium-free blend is applied electrostatically in three coats to the interior of a bulb to diffuse the light and block the emitted UV wavelengths. The color of the blend will intensify with increasing heat and return to its initial yellow color upon cooling.

Abstract: With high-pressure discharge lamps, and, more specifically, ultra high-prure discharge lamps, the electrode shafts (4, 5) are located within cylindrical elongated necks (2, 3) of quartz glass extending from the arc tube (1). To prevent adhesion of quartz from the cylindrical elongated necks (2, 3) of the arc tube (1) upon melt-sealing the necks (2, 3) to the electrode shafts (4, 5), the electrode shafts (4, 5) are surrounded by flexible tissue or fabric hoses, tubes or braids (21, 22), made of highly heat-resistant, electrically insulating inorganic material, for example made of quartz fibers. The tissue hose has an inner diameter which corresponds at least to the outer diameter of the eletrode shaft (4, 5) and is not more than 0.5 mm greater than the electrode shaft.
