  • Patent number: 5101563
Abstract: A nail clipper is provided including a pair of crossed and pivotally connected levers defining handle ends and blade ends. A bowed spring is disposed between the handle ends and includes split sleeve portions engaged with and extending at least partially about and anchored relative to the handle ends against longitudinal displacement relative thereto and a locking sleeve is removably telescoped over the handle ends to releasably retain the latter against swinging movement away from each other. Further, the blade ends of the levers include opposing arcuate cutting edges abuttingly engaged with each other when the blade ends are in their closed positions and which, together, open laterally outwardly of the clipper in one direction along the axis of relative pivotal movement of levers.

  • Patent number: 5097597
Abstract: A tool for the exertion of firm, well-modulated, compressional and shear force, ideally suited to the removal of nutshells by hand. An inclined surface moves alongside another surface, creating a V-shaped gap. Such movement will cause materials to be gripped, rolled, and crushed. This pair of surfaces is curved end-to-end around a central axis so that one becomes a circular cylinder, while the other assumes the form of a spiral curve, either around or within the first. One part rotates in relation to the other upon the central axis. The rotary-drum embodiment comprises a spiral curve (20a), the ends joined by a convex arc (22a), the resulting shape extended to form a cylinder. A web (38) spans one end of the cylinder to form a cup (40). The web serves to retain materials (92) being worked (such as edible nuts), as well as to support a central spindle (42) upon which a drum (22a) is turned by means of a key-shaped handle (46).

  • Patent number: 5097599
Abstract: An emergency escape tool is proposed for escaping from a car when an accident happens. Scissors for cutting a seat belt and a spike are provided. The spike is held at and retractably protrudes from a handle of the scissors. A tip of the spike is pressed against a window glass. A spike driver is housed in the handle. The spike driver usually urges the spike in the protruding direction. When the spike pressed against the window is displaced inwardly, the spike driver accumulates a compression force corresponding to the displacement. According to the accumulated compression force, the spike is promptly pressed toward the protruding direction so as to break the window glass.

  • Patent number: 5095619
Abstract: A shaving unit that comprises at least one blade and a shaving composite has a surface for engaging the user's skin adjacent the blade edge. The shaving unit may be of a disposable cartridge type adapted for coupling to and uncoupling from a razor handle or may be integral with a handle so that the complete razor is discarded as a unit when the blade or blades become dulled. The blade edge (or edges) cooperate with skin engaging surfaces to define shaving geometry. The skin-engaging surface includes a shaving aid composite that is a mixture of water insoluble matrix material, an effective amount of shaving aid material, and an effective amount of water-insoluble essential oil material, the water-insoluble essential oil material being delivered from the shaving aid composite concurrently with the delivery of the water-leachable shaving aid material during shaving to apply at least about one nanogram of the essential oil to the skin surface per square centimeter of skin surface.

  • Patent number: 5093995
Abstract: A folding knife having a blade that can be pivoted into or out of a hollow knife handle. A depressible lock pin extends parallel to the blade pivot axis to normally extend through a notch in an arcuate edge of the blade, thereby holding the blade in a designated position (open or closed). Depression of the lock pin enables a transverse slot in the pin to register with the blade, such that the blade can be swung to a desired position.

  • Patent number: 5093996
Abstract: A scissors which may be utilized by persons having weakened hand muscles is disclosed. The scissors comprises first and second blade elements. Each of the blade elements includes a front portion having a sharp cutting edge, a middle portion and a rear portion. The blade elements are pivotally mounted at the rear portions thereof and biased by a spring member towards the open position of the scissors. First and second handles are attached to the middle portions of the first and second blade elements, respectively. The handles increase the effective widths of the middle portions of the blade elements thereby increasing the mechanical advantage of the scissors. This permits a user of the scissors to close the scissors with a smaller force.

  • Patent number: 5094000
Abstract: A hand-held power tool with a rotary driven tool, in particular a planer or a circular saw, is arranged so that on switching off the drive, which can be switched on and off by means of a trigger (15), a brake element (34), which is ineffective when the drive is switched on, is brought into braking engagement with a brake part (51) rotatingly driven by the drive. The tool comprises a safety element (21) which co-operates with the trigger (15) and which can be displaced between a safety position in which the trigger (15) cannot be moved to switch on the drive, and a release position in which the trigger (15) can be moved into the position to switch on the drive. The safety element (21) is urged by spring pressure towards the safety position and is held in the release position when the trigger (15)L is in the switch-on position.

  • Patent number: 5092046
Abstract: A sheath for a knife having a blade and a handle, the handle having a guard with a first and an opposing second portion. The sheath comprises a body with a cavity to receive the knife blade and a recess with one side forming a ramp to receive the first portion of the knife guard. The second portion of the knife guard is outside the sheath. A spring carried by the sheath engages the second portion of the guard and biases the guard so that the first portion of the guard is retained but not locked in the recess. To release the blade from the sheath, the thumb of the user presses against a lobe formed in the end of the spring to remove pressure on the second portion of the guard, allowing the first portion of the guard to be moved up the ramp side of the recess and out of the sheath, or, alternatively, the handle may be pulled with sufficient force to overcome the bias of the spring and draw the first portion of the guard up the ramp and thus the blade from the sheath.

  • Patent number: 5092044
Abstract: A guide bar for a chain saw having interior channels for conducting fluid to a nose end of the bar. The channel conducts fluid to the nose end of the bar where a sprocket is rotatably mounted. The sprocket has grooves formed in each side of its body for injecting fluid received from the center channel into the supporting bearing surface in the bore of the sprocket. The grooves are configured to inject fluid to the bearing surfaces regardless of the direction of sprocket rotation. The grooves which have open tops also provide for fluid flow between the side of the sprocket body and the side laminates of the sprocket nose. The grooves also provide an exit for fluid to flow out of the bearing surface as the grooves are positioned opposite the center channel as the sprocket is rotated. The flow of fluid through the grooves into the bearing area and the flow of fluid between the sprocket and the side laminates provides a hydraulic wall to prevent entry of contaminants into the sprocket.
