  • Patent number: 4735581
Abstract: A packing plug assembly to be used in a connector housing to provide a seal therewithin. The assembly is composed of a resilient plug body and one or more rigid members. The resilient plug body is formed with a through hole therein to receive an insulated wire therein whereas the remaining portion of the resilient plug body is penetrated by the reinforcing members. The leading end of the wire is attached with a terminal which is securely pressed into the connector by means of rigid reinforcing member penetrating the resilient plug body to assure latching engagement therein when the plug assembly is press fitted into the connector. Such press fitting may be done by use of a rear holder adapted to be pushed into the connector after the resilient plug body.

  • Patent number: 4734057
Abstract: A connector assembly in which a housing has a plurality of side-by-side mutually isolated bores which extend between an entry aperture in a front wall and an aft end. Each bore contains an elongated contact which has a hollow pin receiving end adjacent the aperture in the front wall and a wire receiving barrel at its opposite end subject to a crimping action for engagement with an associated wire lead. A resilient grommet seal mounted at the aft end of the housing has a plurality of side-by-side openings therein aligned with the bores in the housing for sealingly engaging the wire ends. A dielectric spacer within each bore serves to assure high surface resistivity between contacts positioned in adjacent bores.

  • Patent number: 4732437
Abstract: An electrical connector including two complimentary box-shaped elements each including a body having a plurality of compartments. Each compartment includes an aperture to receive an electrical contact device, a locking device for engaging the electrical contact device to lock the contact device in the compartment, and a lug having a portion that is sufficiently steep to prevent the electrical contact device from passing over this portion of the lug when the electrical contact device is inserted into the compartment in a position different from a normal insertion position. Also provided is a barrier which consists of a ramp connected to the steep portion of the lug. In the normal insertion position the electrical contact device passes over the ramp and lug to be locked in the compartment, whereas in a position different from this normal insertion position the electrical contact device abuts the steep portion of the lug and cannot fully enter the compartment or engage the locking device.

  • Patent number: 4731032
Abstract: A protective cover for removable attachment to the open end of an electrical connector that has exposed electrical contacts thereat, includes an insulative body having walls for substantially enclosing the open end of the electrical connector. The body includes a pair of guiding members that are adapted to engage side surface of walls of the electrical connector and guide the installation of the cover onto the connector such that potential damage to the electrical contacts will be minimized or prevented. The dust cover includes a flexible tether preferably integrally attached to the insulative body, the tether terminating in a discontinuous loop. The discontinuous loop has an opening so that the loop may be removably attached to an electrical cable that is terminated to the electrical connector. In the installed condition, the dust cover suitably prevents contaminants, debris or other particles from entering the open end of the connector while the electrical connector is in a disconnected condition.

  • Patent number: 4729741
Abstract: An upper and a lower body having three sockets, two on the upper portion and one on the center of the bottom face of the lower body. Each socket has a slide cover which fits into a track and which can slide back and forth to align and disalign with conductor prong holes. The slide covers each have hook-like legs which slideably secure them in slide cover leg slots. Retainers are on the inside of the upper and lower bodies to hold conductor plates in place. The prongs of a plug, when engaged with the present invention, fit through engagement slots on the slide covers and conductor prong holes to the protruberances of the conductor plate. When not in use, the slide cover can be slid to one side so as to close the passage to the conductor plate.

  • Patent number: 4728163
Abstract: A dual gender electrical connector is made up of a "male" member, a "female" member, and a positioning means. The positioning means may be integral with either the male or female member, and/or a part of any shielding used. The male member is made up of a non-conductive support material of predetermined thickness in which electrically conductive electrical contacts are embedded in parallel. Short lengths of the electrical contacts are exposed on the rear end for connection to electrical conductors. Longer lengths of electrical contacts are exposed on the front end. The female member is made up of an electrically non-conductive support material of the basic form and often the same material as the male member, though not the same depth as the male member. Tubes having a length equal to approximately the depth of the female member support material are positioned within the support material so as to be capable of sliding over and in contact with the electrical contacts of the male member.

  • Patent number: 4728304
Abstract: An improved lead socket insert assembled into a contact member which is adapted to pluggably receive a lead of a circuit component, such as an integrated circuit package is provided. The insert has a hollow cylindrical body portion and fingers that are bent at a fulcrum position so that they converge. The insert has improved operational characteristics which engage a component lead with greatly reduced mating forces due to a weakening at the fulcrum position. The lead socket insert allows for higher density application of electronic packages when assembled into loose contact members or directly mounted into an interconnection panel.

  • Patent number: 4723823
Abstract: Devices for protecting the bulb of a night light against damage and for denying access to the sockets of an electrical outlet into which the night light is plugged and for also denying access to those parts of the night light which might produce an electrical shock if touched. One component of the protective arrangement is a cover with externally threaded bosses which are apertured so that the night light can be plugged into a socket which a boss overlies by installing the night light through the aperture. The night light includes a bulb surrounding protective shield which is clamped against the boss by a safety cap of the push-and-twist type, thereby protecting the bulb and isolating the socket and electrically charged parts of the night light. Safety caps are also used to deny access to any othe sockets of the outlet servicing the night light, and these safety caps may be designed so that they will perform this function when the protected socket is in use as well as when it is out of service.

  • Patent number: 4722693
Abstract: A safety shutter for an electrical receptacle is in the form of a sliding rocker with a pair of angled lugs on the front side and a slot that can mate with one of two electric plug receiving slots in the faceplate of the electrical receptacle and is biased by a spring into a safety position wherein such receiving slot is out of alignment with the shutter slot. The shutter slot may move into alignment with such receiving slot when an electric plug is inserted into the receptacle to simultaneously engage the angled lugs. However, the shutter rocks without sliding when a single foreign object is inserted through either of the faceplate receiving slots and engages only one of the lugs whereby the foreign object is prevented from reaching the internal contacts of the receptacle.
