  • Patent number: 10499344
Abstract: The technique of beamforming is to be adopted in 5G NR systems in both DL and UL directions to combat the effect of acute path loss in the Giga hertz frequency region. With beamforming, the measured path loss in the UL and DL directions will be different even if the same carrier frequency is used for both DL and UL, due to the fact that the antenna gains are not unity as in the case in LTE/LTE-A systems. In view of this, embodiments of the present invention provide method and apparatus to handle the mechanism of UL transmit power control.

  • Patent number: 10477483
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may identify an upcoming uplink data transmission. The UE may associate the uplink data transmission with a communication type. In some cases, the UE may receive an indication of the communication type in an uplink grant or the UE may determine an identifier for decoding a downlink transmission and further determine the communication type based on the identifier. The UE may then determine and apply a closed-loop power control function, and/or in some cases an open-loop power control function, for the uplink data transmission based on the communication type. In aspects, the UE may receive a semi-static configuration of subframe sets each associated with an additional closed-loop power control function. The UE may then determine a closed-loop power control function for each of the subframe sets based on the communication type associated with each subframe set.

  • Patent number: 10439676
Abstract: Techniques for automatically configuring and controlling a digital media device are described. A digital media device can be configured or controlled by a mobile device, e.g., a smart mobile phone. When the digital media device is being configured, the digital media device can broadcast a signal, indicating that the digital media device is requesting configuration information from a mobile device. A mobile device located in proximity of the digital media device, upon detecting the signal, can perform various security checks to determine that the request is legitimate, and then open a communication channel with the digital media device. The mobile device can provide user preferences of the mobile device, as well as credentials for accessing and downloading remote content, to the digital media device through the communication channel. Upon receiving the configuration information, the digital media device can use parameters in the configuration information as its settings.

  • Patent number: 10389459
Abstract: Remote actuation of machines or machine systems is realized by a system for coupling a radiobeacon to a smart device and in turn to a broader network. The smart device is configured as a proximity-actuated “community nodal device” by an application that operates as part of the system. The community nodal device is given instructions to function as a “soft switch”: to automatically “upswitch”, amplify, and broadcast low energy, local area radiobeacon “messages” to a cloud-based server, where the message is interpreted according to rules or policies established by an operator, and a command is transmitted for execution to a remote device. Conventional smart devices generally discard data not addressed to the owner of the smart device.
