  • Patent number: 7688780
Abstract: Interference between collocated wireless devices sharing the same RF channel is avoided or minimized by a new header format provided for the first data packet in an RF transmission. By inclusion of an invalid pulse in the header of each isolated data packet, an FM receiver that “captures” a desired signal from a closest device, midstream of processing an undesired signal (pertubation) from a more distant collocated device, is caused to abort the invalid packet and reinitialize. The receiver is then able to properly process the first packet in the desired transmission (from the closest device).

  • Patent number: 7688843
Abstract: A method for registration of multiple entities belonging to a specific optical networks unit (ONU). In one embodiment, the multiple entity registration method comprises checking by an optical line terminal (OLT) if a registration request message received from the specific ONU belongs to a certain grant, and based on the check result, registering an entity as either a first or as an additional entity of the specific ONU. In another embodiment, the method comprises checking by an OLT of a reserved value of a flags field inside a registration request message, and based on the check result, registering an entity as either a first or as an additional entity of the specific ONU. The knowledge by an OLT that multiple entities belong to a specific ONU is used for grant optimization and packet data flow optimization.

  • Patent number: 7675841
Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for generating a preamble sequence in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing communication system including a reference base station and a plurality of non-reference base stations and employing m sub-carriers in a frequency domain. A reference preamble sequence having a length equal to n is generated and mapped on a one-to-one basis with n sub-carriers of the m sub-carriers. A final preamble sequence equivalent to the reference preamble sequence is generated when the base station is a reference base station, or a phase of the reference preamble sequence is shifted by a predetermined phase in order to generate a phase-shifted final preamble sequence when the base station is a non-reference base station, thereby minimizing interference between neighbor base stations.

  • Patent number: 7649889
Abstract: A system and a process for a session layer protocol allows a large number of client machines to receive a reliable data stream over inherently unreliable multicast connections in a highly efficient and scalable manner. More specifically, streaming of high-quality video, audio, stock and news tickers, or any other application specific data that requires a reliable data stream is described. The streaming allows for the source to instruct individuals to drop their connection to the stream to prevent noisy individuals from disrupting the operating efficiency of the stream.

  • Patent number: 7649871
Abstract: A communication control apparatus, mounted on each node of a telecommunications system, receives node type information selected by a neighboring node, and transmits node type information selected by the own node and node type information of another node. The apparatus receives the state variable signal of the neighboring node reflecting a phase representing another node's data transmission timing, and transmits a state variable signal representing the own node's data transmission timing. Subsequently, the apparatus selects the own node's node type in accordance with another node's type information received. The apparatus then varies, based on the own node's node type information selected, another node's node type information and the neighboring node's state variable signal, the state of the own node's phase in accordance with a time evolution rule based on a phase response function and a synchronization alliance function for thereby determining the own node's data transmission timing.

  • Patent number: 7621162
Abstract: A method of multiplexing a plurality of data flows into a single output using hierarchical gating operations instead of queues is disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, the hierarchical multiplexing method comprises sequentially processing a packet at each of a plurality of hierarchical levels by characterizing the flow at each hierarchical level and either passing or discarding the packet. The decision whether to pass or discard a packet is generally made for each packet at one or more hierarchical levels based on traffic parameters and the state of the system such as congestion. In the preferred embodiment, a Three Color Marker algorithm is used to characterize the flow and mark packets subjecting to the discard decision. The invention may be used by a router or multi-layer switch to process multiple data flows in a hierarchical fashion without hierarchical queues, thereby reducing processing and memory requirements.

  • Patent number: 7619602
Abstract: Disclosed is a display device using a demultiplexer. The demultiplexer sequentially samples data currents that are time-divided and applied by a data driver, and holds them to a plurality of data lines. Since the demultiplexer is to sample the data currents corresponding to N data lines during a horizontal period when performing 1:N demultiplexing, the data current corresponding to one data line is to be sampled during a 1/N horizontal period. According to one embodiment, a signal line coupled between the demultiplexer and the data driver is precharged with particular voltage before sampling the data current. The precharge voltage is sufficient to allow current transmitted to the signal line to be substantially sampled within a a given sampling time after the precharge voltage is applied.

  • Patent number: 7590083
Abstract: A two-way satellite communications system includes an Earth station communicating with a plurality of remote terminals using a network access protocol that facilitates low power consumption by the terminals. The earth station generates forward link TDM packet data transmissions on one or more satellite channels, and detects, despreads and decodes multiple concurrent return link slotted CDMA packet transmissions on one or more satellite channels. It communicates through a wired connection with a packet processing center which ultimately both delivers return link packet data to end-customers and receives forward link packet data from end-customers. The remote terminals receive, process and act upon forward link TDM transmissions on one or more satellite channels, and generate slotted spread spectrum CDMA transmissions on the return link on one or more satellite channels.

  • Patent number: 7586914
Abstract: A media access controller (MAC) is configured with a DOCSIS Header creator circuit. The DOCSIS header creator circuit is configured with logic for receiving a data packet and determining whether the received data packet has an existing packet header prepended thereto. The DOCSIS header creator circuit is further configured to determine if the length of the received data packet includes a cyclic redundancy code. Still further, the DOCSIS header creator circuit is configured to determine a packet header length field value for the received data packet. If the DOCSIS header creator circuit determines that a cyclic redundancy code needs to be included in with the received data packet, then the DOCSIS header creator circuit is able to generate a CRC flag. If the data packet needs to be encrypted, then the DOCSIS header creator circuit will generate an encryption flag if it is determined that the received data packet should be encrypted.

  • Patent number: 7583637
Abstract: In an aspect of the method, a received data packet is decoded in order to determine a packet error rate value, and an average package error value for N received data packets is updated based on the determined packet error rate value. The updated average packet error rate value is then compared against a threshold value and a data rate request is issued based on this comparison. In another aspect, a response to a transmitted data packet is received, the response being related to an average packet error rate value. The average packet error rate value is compared against a threshold and a data rate is modified based on the comparison. In each of the above aspects, a data rate control margin that is used to overcome channel estimate errors resulting from transmission delays may be dynamically adjusted, e.g., in real time, in order to optimize system resources.
