  • Patent number: 8520615
Abstract: In general, the invention is directed to techniques for breaking out mobile data traffic from a mobile service provider network to a packet data network. For example, as described herein, a breakout gateway device (BGW) receives a first service request and data traffic for a data session associated with the requested service from a mobile device in a radio access network, wherein the first service request is addressed to a serving node of a mobile core network of the mobile service provider network, and wherein the data traffic is destined for the PDN. A control packet analysis module forwards the first service request from the breakout gateway device to the serving node. A breakout module of the BGW bypasses the serving node by sending the data traffic from the breakout gateway device to the PDN on a data path from the radio access network to the PDN.

  • Patent number: 8514895
Abstract: This invention discloses a bit-stuffing method for crosstalk avoidance in high-speed buses, which comprises the steps of inputting a plurality of data bit streams in parallel to a data input buffer; the data input buffer sequentially inputting data bits of the data bit streams to a bit-switching unit, and the bit-switching unit switching the data bits to generate bit-switched data; parallelly inputting the bit-switched data to a bit-stuffing encoding unit; the bit-stuffing encoding unit performing bit-stuffing encoding on the bit-switched data to generate encoded data bits and inputting the encoded data bits to an encoded data buffer; and the encoded data buffer outputting the encoded data to a high-speed bus. The encoded data bits passed through the high-speed bus are decoded using a bit-removing method to recover the data bit streams.

  • Patent number: 8503465
Abstract: Techniques for performing priority scheduling and admission control in a communication network are described. In an aspect, data flows may be prioritized, and packets for data flows with progressively higher priority levels may be placed at points progressively closer to the head of a queue and may then experience progressively shorter queuing delays. In another aspect, a packet for a terminal may be transferred from a source cell to a target cell due to handoff and may be credited for the amount of time the packet has already waited in a queue at the source cell. In yet another aspect, all priority and non-priority data flows may be admitted if cell loading is light, only priority data flows may be admitted if the cell loading is heavy, and all priority data flows and certain non-priority data flows may be admitted if the cell loading is moderate.

  • Patent number: 8422388
Abstract: A method for gracefully extending the range and/or capacity of voice communication systems is disclosed. The method involves the persistent storage of voice media on a communication device. When the usable bit rate on the network is poor and below that necessary for conducting a live conversation, voice media is transmitted and received by the communication device at the available usable bit rate on the network. Although latency may be introduced, the persistent storage of both transmitted and received media of a conversation provides the ability to extend the useful range of wireless networks beyond what is required for live conversations. In addition, the capacity and robustness in not being affected by external interferences for both wired and wireless communications is improved.

  • Patent number: 8391313
Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for packetizing actual noise signals, typically background noise, received by an access gateway from a speaking party and transmitting these packetized noise signals via a network to an egress gateway. The egress gateway converts the packetized noise signal into noise signals suitable for output and transmits the output noise signals to a listening party. When the access gateway detects that no voice signal is being received and only a noise signal is being received for a predetermined period of time, the access gateway instructs the egress network to continually transmit output noise signals to the listening party and ceases to transmit packetized noise signals to the egress gateway.

  • Patent number: 8391176
Abstract: Systems, methods, and software are described for benchmarking the location determination capabilities of a wireless communications network. A mobile communications device is configured to receive data identifying a reference location for the device. A communications network, communicatively coupled with the mobile communications device, calculates a computed location for the device using an alternative location determination technique. The reference location and computed location may be determined for any number of additional devices, as well. The accuracy and reliability of a system may then be assessed by comparing one or more computed locations with associated reference locations. The latency attributable to the calculation of one or more computed locations may also be determined.

  • Patent number: 8391213
Abstract: An application for gracefully extending the range and/or capacity of voice communication systems. The application includes a module for the persistent storage of voice media on a communication device as the voice media is created. When the usable bit rate on the network is poor and below that necessary for conducting live communication of the voice media, a transmit module transmits the voice media out of storage at or below the available usable bit rate on the network. Although latency may be introduced, the storage of transmitted media provides the ability to extend the useful range and/or capacity of the network when conditions on the network otherwise make live communication impossible or impractical.
