Abstract: A coating agent for delaying the release of a physiologically active substance to be administered per os to ruminants, said coating comprising a veterinary acceptable water-soluble, synthetic high molecular compound and ethylcellulose, said coating agent being stable in the first stomach or rumen of ruminants and capable of being effectively disintegrated for subsequent absorption in the 4th stomach of ruminants, characterized in that said coating agent further comprises at least one substance which is miscible with both of said high molecular weight compound and ethylcellulose and is insoluble in water.Said coating agent forms a coat which protects the active substance from degradation in the first stomach of a ruminant at a pH of about 5.5 and rapidly breaks down in the 4th stomach at a pH of about 3, thereby releasing the active ingredient for absorption by the animal. The coating agent and the actives coated therewith and their preparation are described.
Abstract: A liquid feed supplement includes a blend of aromatic flavoring agents in a fat-miscible liquid base and liquid fats. In the preferred form of the invention, the liquid fats are a blend of one source of fatty acids having a carbon chain length between 2 and 21 carbon atoms and a second source of fatty acids having a carbon chain length between 14 and 21 carbon atoms. The best results have been obtained with a propionic acid base solution for the flavoring agents; coconut oil for the first fat source; and a blend of corn and soy oils for the second fat source. The supplement not only increases the production performance, but also overcomes caloric satiety so as to increase total feed intake in monogastrics.
Abstract: An acidic molasses-based liquid animal feed supplement stock including calcium and magnesium, so that the calcium to magnesium weight ratio is between about 1.5 and 3, and, optionally, non-protein nitrogen, is hardened into a solid form by the addition of a phosphorus-containing compound in a nutritionally appropriate amount. In a preferred embodiment a single homogeneous first solution containing the sugar or molasses and the soluble calcium and magnesium compound but containing no added phosphorus compound is prepared and stored until it is desired to manufacture the animal feed blocks. At that time a second solution containing phosphorus but no calcium, magnesium, or molasses is added to the first solution so that the blocking reaction can occur.
Abstract: Compositions and method for forming a weather resistant, non-flowable and stackable animal feed block from flowable premixes. A first premix comprises particular cane molasses, dissolved calcium chloride, fat, water, and urea having a pH between about 4.4 and about 5.5. A second premix comprises water soluble salts of orthophosphoric acid which when mixed with the first premix provides a block having a hardness of 4.0 in 6 hours or less and minimum loss in field weather conditions. A dry blend of animal feed supplements may be included in the block.
Abstract: A hoof and coat supplement composition for domestic animals comprises by weight percent substantially:96.0% to 0.0% palatable carrier;50.0% to 2.0% methionine;0.25% to 0.01% biotin20.0% to 2.0% live yeast culture and yeast fermentation solubles;5.0% to 1.25% zinc in chelated form;0.40% to 0.0% preservative;1.5% to 0.0% antioxidant agent; and20.0% to 0.0% flavoring agent.
Abstract: A high moisture, high energy liquid feed supplement and concentrate for animals (ruminants, cattles) is disclosed which is capable of remaining in stable suspension while containing a high porportion of fat. The suspension is maintained by salts of fatty acids formed in the added fat. Formation of the fatty acid salts is produced by reacting an aqueous base with the fat at an elevated temperature to form the fatty acid salts therein and subsequently adding the additional materials therein.
Abstract: Compositions and process are disclosed for treating freshly cut surfaces of edible plant parts by dipping the freshly cut parts in an aqueous solution containing edible ingredients which simultaneously protects the plant parts from degradation and coloration by oxidative, enzymatic, microbial and metal ion effects.
Abstract: An extruded feed intake limiting composition for use in free choice horse feeding also prevents colic, and founder and other digestive disorders. The horse ration, which has a low-to-medium energy content, is carefully balanced nutritionally as to nutrient density, soluble carbohydrate and fiber content. The ration can be fed to a horse on an ad libitum basis as the sole source of nutrition for the horse excluding water.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process of preserving forage, a Lactobacillus plantarum strain used in the process, the use of the strain in the preservation of forage, and forage preserved according to the invention. Abstract: The invention is a coating for animal feeds; more particularly a coating composition comprising cane molasses for animal feeds which provides a golden brown color and free-flow characteristics to such feeds. The invention discloses that when cane molasses or cane molasses/fat is treated with phosphoric acid, phosphate or polyphosphate salts, or various acids, the resulting composition provides a golden brown color, improves the free-flow characteristics, and improves tackiness retention of the feed to which it is applied. Addition of an emulsifier to a cane molasses/fat coating composition eliminates spottiness.
