Abstract: An alkaline supplement for ruminant feeds is a fluid suspension comprising the components: about 20 to about 40 percent by weight water; about 2 to about 10 percent by weight sodium carbonate; about 2 to about 10 percent by weight calcium phosphate; about 10 to about 40 percent by weight molasses; about 5 to about 30 percent by weight limestone; up to about 15 percent by weight urea; up to about 5 percent by weight magnesium oxide; up to about 20 percent by weight dolomite; up to about 30 percent by weight fat; up to about 30 percent by weight protein meal; and a suspending agent.
Abstract: An aqueous wood smoke solution for flavoring foodstuffs is produced by heating in an oxygen starved atmosphere ground wood or cellulose to between 400.degree. C. and 650.degree. C. within 1.0 second; maintaining the said wood or cellulose and the primary pyrolysis vapors between 400.degree. C. and 650.degree. C. for between 0.03 and 2.0 seconds; reducing the temperature of the pyrolysis products to below 350.degree. C. within 0.6 seconds; separating and collecting the water soluble liquid products; and diluting the said water soluble liquid products with water to achieve a partial phase separation and to reduce the benzo(a)pyrene concentration to less than 1.0 ppb.
Abstract: An acidic molasses-based liquid animal feed supplement including nutritionally appropriate phosphorus and magnesium and, optionally, non-protein nitrogen, is hardened into a solid form by the addition of a small amount of a soluble calcium compound, preferably calcium chloride, so that the calcium to magnesium weight ratio is between about 1.5 and 3. The disclosed solid animal feed supplement is sufficiently palatable to permit its free choice feeding, yet discourages overfeeding by its hardness and acidity. The block contains sufficient molasses to help meet the energy requirements for maintenance and weight gain of grazing animals, but is sufficiently low in pH to minimize the risk of ammonia poisoning due to breakdown of non-protein nitrogen sources to free ammonia during rumination.
Abstract: The invention provides a highly nutritional unfermented medium protein animal feed supplement by admixing wet corn bran having an abnormally high moisture content with concentrated corn steep to form a moist cohesive but friable mass, the process eliminating a significant proportion of the energy used in and pollution occasioned by prior art process. In a modification, the above unfermented product is subjected to a natural fermentation stage resulting in a fermented supplement which is microbiologically and gravitationally stable for an extended period of time. One further advantage of the present invention is that the corn bran and steep liquor from a corn wet milling plant can be used in the specific amounts as actually produced in the normal operation of the plant, thereby allowing plant efficiencies to be maintained.
Abstract: An intermediate moisture food composition including(a) a source of protein in an amount effective to provide a minimum protein content approximately 15% by weight including hash and/or bone-in fractions(b) at least one humectant in an amount effective to provide maximum water activity of approximately 0.9.
Abstract: Compositions and process are disclosed for treating freshly cut surfaces of edible plant parts by dipping the freshly cut parts in an aqueous solution containing edible ingredients which simultaneously protects the plant parts from degradation and coloration by oxidative, enzymatic, microbial and metal ion effects.
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of producing improved pelleted animal feeds. Under the process of this invention, an animal feed composition containing an effective amount of a water soluble form of calcium is compressed into pellets. The water soluble form of calcium present in the composition serves as both the source of mineral nutrition and as a pellet binding agent. The pelleted animal feeds produced by the process of this invention exhibit superior durability and produce less fines.
Abstract: Granules containing feed additives for ruminants are coated with an enzymatically degradable composition, consisting of: zein in combination with a non-water-soluble polymer and optionally a plasticizing agent, or zein in combination with a hydrophobic substance and optionally a non-water-soluble polymer.
Abstract: This invention relates to the preservation of high moisture animal feeds which utilize a fermentation (either natural or induced) to improve the quality of the animal food. More specifically, this invention utilizes dimethyl fumarate (DMF) in plant feeds in combination with fermentation microorganisms to produce an animal feed which is high in nutrient value and low in spoilage microorganisms.

Abstract: Interior egg quality, usually expressed in Haugh Units, is prolonged by feeding the laying poultry a diet containing zeolite A. If the feed contains a reduced chloride content, egg shell quality, egg shell thickness or egg specific gravity may be also improved, and/or the number of shell-less eggs may be reduced.

Abstract: The present invention comprises an enclosed tank for containing fat. The bottom wall is cone shaped and at the lower end of the cone is an outlet opening. A valve is placed in the opening to permit fluid to be added to or drained from the tank. A heater element is placed in the bottom of the tank or immediately below the bottom of the wall of the tank and can be an electrical heated element, a helical tube containing steam or hot water, or a gas powered infrared heater. A circulation system permits the removal of fat from the bottom of the tank and the recirculating of the fat to the upper portion of the tank. A valve within the recirculation system permits the fat to be pumped to a spray nozzle where it can be sprayed onto a feed mixture for animals.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method of producing animal feed products.A method of producing animal feed products using rapeseed is described wherein rapeseed is mixed together with the species Vicia Faba (field beans) in predetermined proportions and the mix is extruded at a predetermined temperature to substantially inactivate components in the rapeseed and said species which otherwise directly or indirectly cause components in the extruded product which are detrimental when contained in an animal feed product.
Abstract: Animal feed pallets such as fish feeds, dog and cat foods in pellet form and textured soya protein pellets, are prepared by a process in which edible liquid is added to the pellets and absorbed under conditions of reduced pressure. In this way, larger amounts of edible liquids such as lipids can be incorporated into the pellets without significant deterioration in other desirable properties of the pellets such as hardness and durability.
