  • Patent number: 8055563
Abstract: A financial activity network includes a central managing system connected to a plurality of participant terminals. Rules governing operation of the financial activity are stored for future reference. A participant provides investment information such as a map location for the predicted strike by the natural event and, optionally, one or more secondary parameters relating to the natural event, such as the time interval between the time of investment and the time of all event strike and/or the severity of the event strike according to an established scale. In one example, an external objective independent information source is consulted, with the external objective independent information source providing monitoring, interpretation and derived determination of parameters pertaining to the natural event. Methods and articles of manufacture are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8010440
Abstract: An anonymous trading system allows parties to divide potential counterparties into tiers according to their perceived creditworthiness and the risk involved in trading with them. Price adjustments are applied to order prices for all tiers other than the first so that second and subsequent tier counterparties trade at less favorable prices. An offer is converted into a series of linked orders, one per tier, all at different prices. Tier identifiers attached to the orders are compared to ensure that the correct tier prices are displayed to counterparties.

  • Patent number: 7970672
Abstract: Systems and methods are described that determine which offers for credit-based transactions (if any) to market to a person. Each offer is associated with a set of third party demographic information criteria, a set of lender demographic information criteria, and a set of lender credit data criteria. The set of third party demographic information criteria is applied to a set of offers to determine a first subset of offers. The set of lender demographic information criteria is applied to the first subset of offers to determine a second subset of offers. The set of lender credit data criteria is applied to the second subset of offers to determine a third subset of offers.

  • Patent number: 7970684
Abstract: A method for creating an investment fund and selling shares in the fund to individual investors, each of whom has an investment ratio defined by a dollar amount of direct real estate investments held by the investor outside of the fund divided by a dollar amount of shares in the fund held by the individual investor. A target range of the investment ratio is selected for the fund. A target geographical region is selected where individual investors in the fund hold the direct real estate investments. A model composite portfolio is identified having an asset combination that includes: (i) direct real estate investment held by an individual investor in the target geographical region, and (ii) shares in the fund held by the individual investor. The asset combination in the model composite portfolio has an investment ratio that is within the target range.

  • Patent number: 7970689
Abstract: A method and system serve for network dealing for conducting single-period auctions where there is one seller and at least one buyer, but typically multiple buyers. The method and system allow for posting of at least one or multiple items offered for sale on a network by a computer at the seller interconnected to other computers on the network. Bids are submitted by buyers for the items offered for sale with the seller requiring predetermined information about the buyer submitting bids before determining a selling price. The seller applies a selected set of criteria to strike out bids the seller does not wish to consider and applies a seller determined criteria to determine the price at which the seller is willing to sell the item(s).

  • Patent number: 7958044
Abstract: A method for determining the implied volatility of a swap option employs intuitive factors to arrive at a close approximate of volatility. The volatility curve is a convex shaped curve which more closely follows real market volatility than previous methods. The slope of the curve is provided by employing a premium model which allows for a correlation between rates and volatility. The convex shaped curve is arrived by assuming a lognormal distribution for the underlying volatility.

  • Patent number: 7925574
Abstract: A system and method are provided for displaying information related to a plurality of tradeable objects using a single graphical interface. One example graphical interface includes at least two screen regions displayed in relation to each other, with each region including a plurality of locations. Each location in the first screen region corresponds to a value along a first value axis, and each location in the second screen region corresponds to a value along a second value axis. The graphical interface also includes a first indicator in the first region and a second indicator in the second region. In response to a repositioning command based on an algorithm, the graphical interface includes a repositioned first value axis and the second value axis, such that the indicators are displayed in new locations determined based on the algorithm.

  • Patent number: 7908157
Abstract: A reinsurance participation plan allows an insurance carrier to provide novel loss participation plans to insureds. The insurance carrier cedes a portion of the risk to a reinsurance company, such as a captive reinsurance company. The captive reinsurance carrier then enters into a contractual agreement with the insured for the participation plan, subject to the appropriate regulations for the primary line of insurance in question. The participation plan may be a non-linear participation plan, such as a curvilinear participation plan, where the non-linearities allow the plan to be offered to smaller companies than would otherwise qualify for more traditional retrospective participation plans, and to provide more advantageous plans to larger companies than they would otherwise be offered. The plans may be offered on a multi-year basis with particular diligence in informed consent for the prospective insured.

  • Patent number: 7831501
Abstract: Presented is a system and method for performing crossing of institutional security orders. The system includes a first server interconnected to a second server and client stations across a communication network. The first server includes a database and is configured to receive institutional orders from the client station, which are stored in the database. The first server includes operating instructions operable to determine whether a match exists between contra institutional orders based on predetermined criteria. Upon determination of a match, the first server forwards a child order composed of at least a portion of one of the contra orders to the second server. At a fraction of a second later, the first server forwards the other of the contra orders to the second server followed by the remaining portion of the contra order.

  • Patent number: 7822668
Abstract: A method for optimizing risk-adjusted returns of a composite portfolio having a non-variable portion containing at least tangible residential real estate property investments and a variable portion containing other assets having a liquidity profile that is more liquid than the non-variable portion of the portfolio. The other assets in the variable portion of the portfolio are optimized in order to diversify and/or hedge risks associated with the non-variable portion of the portfolio. The optimizing is performed by calculating a mix of assets in the variable portion of the portfolio that maximizes expected returns for the composite portfolio while minimizing risks for the composite portfolio.

  • Patent number: 7805358
Abstract: A system for managing trading orders comprises a memory operable to store a trade credit associated with a trader. The system further comprises a processor operable to receive a trading order from the trader and determine the trade credit associated with the trader. If the received trading order is a passive trading order, the processor is further operable to increase the trade credit and submit the received trading order for execution. If the received trading order is an aggressive trading order, the processor is further operable to calculate a decrease of the trade credit. If subtracting the calculated decrease from the trade credit would not cause the trade credit to be less than a configurable threshold, the processor is further operable to submit the received trading order for execution and subtract the calculated decrease from the trade credit.
