  • Patent number: 5477931
Abstract: This is a machine for forming V-ditches for the irrigation of soil. The machine consists of a central frame with a two wheel carriage and plows of subassemblies. Each plow consists of a right subassembly and a left subassembly universally connected to the right and left sides respectively of the central frame. Each plow forms an acute horizontal angle with the central frame. The acute angle is fixed by the use of chains, having one part adjacent to an end attached to the central frame and another part of the chain adjacent to the opposite end, attached to the extended end of the subassembly. Each subassembly contains concavo-convex rotatable discs mounted parallel to each other on a common axle. The discs are assembled so that the concave side of the discs penetrate the soil when the machine is moved forward by a suitable draft device.

  • Patent number: 5474334
Abstract: The coupling assembly includes a first pipe and a second pipe connected by a middle sub splined to an outer sleeve. Each pipe includes a tubular body having a first axis and a threaded pin end with a second axis. The middle sub includes threaded boxes on each end with a center seal bore. The threaded boxes of the middle sub threadingly engage the pin ends of the first and second pipes. The threads on one pin are right-handed and the threads on the other pin are left-handed such that upon rotation of the middle sub and outer sleeve, the pins and boxes will threadingly engage upon the rotation in a common direction. The boxes and pin ends have a common axis. Each of the terminal ends of the first and second pipes include dogs which intermesh upon connection of the coupling for the transmission of The axes of the first and second pipes are at an angle with the common axis so as to cause an offset angle between the first pipe and the second pipe.

  • Patent number: 5471772
Abstract: A fairlead mechanism for guiding a dragline drag rope includes a support on the chassis of the dragline and a guide mechanism mounted on the support. The guide mechanism includes at least one pair of guide sheaves each having an annular groove. The guide sheaves are rotatably mounted on the support to present the grooves in facing relation to define between the sheaves a guide path through which the drag rope passes in primary frictional contact with at least one of the guide sheaves to cause the contacted guide sheave to start-stop cycle between rotating and nonrotating modes as the drag rope reciprocates during operation of the machine. The fairlead mechanism further comprises a synchronizing mechanism utilizing gears or belts for causing the pair of guide sheaves to simultaneously stop or counterrotate in unison in response to rope contact with either one of the guide sheaves to minimize wear that would be induced by scrubbing between the rope and the guide sheaves.

  • Patent number: 5471811
Abstract: This invention relates to a combination precast concrete traffic barrier element and a precast C-shaped retaining wall, and a method of constructing a traffic barrier using the element on the vertical face of the retaining wall. The barrier element is a profiled reinforced block of concrete having a bottom surface with a longitudinally extending channel therein. The traffic barrier element is supported on the retaining wall. U-shaped anchoring bars project from an interior portion of the traffic barrier element and from the top surface of the retaining wall to form an oval keyway the length of the longitudinal channel. A locking bar arrangement is inserted through the keyway in a locking relationship with the U-shaped anchoring bars. Concrete is then injected throughout the longitudinal channel and allowed to harden, thus providing a sealed and locked joint.

  • Patent number: 5470110
Abstract: A shielding device provides an area of protection to mechanics during initial unbolting of flanged pipe connections, to block and redirect any unexpected discharge of product away from the mechanic to the opposite side of the flange. This device has an elongated body wrapped around a pipe flange positioned in the gap area between the flanges. The body is made from an elastic material such as rubber or plastic, or a pliable material such as rubber, plastic or teflon, and is secured to the flange by fasteners on each end of the device. The device provides an area of protection greater than half the circumference of the flange, by having the elongated body securely seated in the gap of the flange over this area. The remaining area of the flange gap remains unobstructed to discharge product leaks.

  • Patent number: 5469797
Abstract: This invention is a multi-row full stalk sugar cane planter which utilizes a fully automatic hydraulically driven feed and distribution system to place cane stalks on the field in three or more successive rows including the row directly beneath the planter. A hydraulically driven, continuous chain, feed conveyor moves cane stalks in the semi-vertical position and in multiple columns toward a primary and optional secondary rotating distribution drum system. A pressure compensating proportioning control valve monitors pressure at the primary distribution drum motor and automatically compensates for high pressure spikes by slowing or hesitating the feed of cane stalks to the primary distribution drum. The special valve can be easily adjusted on the fly to compensate for differing field and weather conditions. A series of hydraulic secondary distribution drums are also provided to insure proper planting and placement of the cane stalks in three or more rows.

  • Patent number: 5465511
Abstract: In a machine for digging a trench, in which the digging apparatus comprises an elongated boom having a movable chain around its periphery and which is lowered into the ground, the problem of dislodged boulders which heretofore would be excavated into the machine where they often damaged the conveyor belt system or became stuck, is prevented by an elongate bar or drum which is attached to the frame of the machine in close proximity to the operating chain and immediately before the boulder would otherwise enter the machine. The boulder is held there until it either breaks apart or its abraded by further action of the chain to a sufficiently small size that it can safely navigate through the machine and be expelled in the normal course.

  • Patent number: RE35100
Abstract: A variable rate fertilizer spreading apparatus for spreading a precise amount of multiple types of fertilizers upon a field based upon a location in the field. The system comprises a controller accessing a soil map indicating the type of soil for each portion of the field, several fertilizer maps storing the desired fertilizer level of each of the fertilizers stored in product bins on the tractor, and several status maps each indicating the current fertilizer level at various locations of the field to be fertilized. By accessing the speed of the tractor via a speed indicator, and ascertaining the location of the tractor in the field via a position locator, such as an LORAN or GPS system, an expert system determines the dispensing rate of each of the fertilizers based on the various maps and the position and speed indicators such that the proper dispense rate of the fertilizers from bins is set to attain the desired level of fertilizers.
