  • Patent number: 5598829
Abstract: The invention is directed to a dry-fire prevention device for use with a crossbow. The crossbow includes a trigger mechanism which may have a guide slot into which a bowstring is drawn and retained for firing. A pivotal string catch member is positioned relative to the trigger mechanism to selectively extend into a string catching position which will catch and retain the bowstring should it be released from the trigger mechanism without an arrow in a firing position in the crossbow. The string catch member may include an arrow contacting surface to engage an arrow positioned to be fired from the crossbow, wherein, movement of the arrow to the firing position causes the string catch member to be moved out of the string catching position. This allows selective release of the bowstring from the guide slot and prevents inadvertent release when no arrow is present in the firing position.

  • Patent number: 5588231
Abstract: A snow removal device that uses a truck frame to hold a snow collecting, melting and storage system. A duct carries snow from a snow blower, mounted on the truck, into a large hopper. The hopper is covered to prevent the snow from leaving the hopper. A series of components is nested in the hopper as follows: A screen is at the top to catch debris. Below the screen are two separate heater pipe systems that circulate hot water. Below the pipe systems is a series of pyramid heaters. Below the heaters is a catch basin to hold the melted snow (as water) at the bottom of the hopper. This water is then pumped into a tank, mounted on the back of the truck trailer. Hot water is supplied by a pair of boilers also mounted on the trailer. Fuel for the boilers and the associated electrical equipment is also stored aboard the truck. Because the device is self contained fewer people are needed to operate it.

  • Patent number: 5586545
Abstract: Two embodiments of a compressed gas gun are disclosed. In the first embodiment, a slidable barrel supported by two barrel guides is employed. A thermoplastic compression sleeve provides a bearing for the slidable barrel, which impacts a valve assembly upon actuation of a trigger mechanism. The impact momentarily opens the valve thereby releasing compressed gas and expelling a projectile. An anti-rebound lock prevents rebound of the barrel and subsequent discharge of gas. In the second embodiment, a slidable bolt assembly serve the function of impacting the valve. The barrel is rigidly attached to the frame of the gun and a spring forces the slidable bolt assembly against the valve. A seal is provided between the slidable bolt assembly and the barrel for allowing slidable movement and preventing the loss of compressed gas.

  • Patent number: 5572809
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling a hydraulically operated construction machine, having a plurality of tandem articulated members which are controlled in a manner that movement of one of the members is controlled in response to movement of another of the members, in order to move the members in a predetermined pattern. The members are controlled in response to the anticipated future movement of the another member. Anticipated future movement of the another member may be determined, for example, as a function of the present position and velocity of the another member and system delay in movement of the another member. Where the another member is controlled manually by an operator control lever coupled with a manual hydraulic control valve, anticipated future movement may be determined by monitoring actuation of the control lever.

  • Patent number: 5555943
Abstract: The present invention is a lawn-aerating and weed-pulling apparatus for use in aerating the ground and removing weeds. The apparatus comprises a substantially horizontal foot plate having a first side and a second side. A coring mechanism and a resilient biasing mechanism is secured to the second side of the foot plate. When the resilient biasing mechanism is compressed and then released it urges the foot plate and the coring mechanism which is secured to it in a generally upward direction. Upon exertion of a generally downward force on the foot plate, the resilient biasing mechanism is compressed, allowing the coring mechanism to penetrate the ground. Upon release of the generally downward force on the foot plate, the resilient biasing mechanism urges the foot plate and the coring mechanism which is secured to it upward, away from the ground, thereby removing a core of ground with substantially reduced or diminished effort on the part of the user.
