  • Patent number: 5129296
Abstract: The saw blade has a series of teeth which are formed with cutting elements which are spaced inwardly from an outer circumferential edge and have sides which extend outwardly from planar sides of the saw blade. The saw blade is designed to cut yieldable material without cutting the carrier medium which can be a conveyor belt or a caul. Cutting is achieved by pushing the blade into the yieldable material until a cutting element engages the material. Movement of the blade then causes the cutting element to cut the yieldable material until a full depth cut is accomplished. The conveyor belt or caul is not cut by the saw blade outer edge which acts like a smooth disk. The saw blade can include a wear strip positioned on the outer circumferential rim to lengthen the life of the saw blade and conveyor belt or caul.

  • Patent number: 5103565
Abstract: In the first embodiment, the distal end of a reciprocating plunger of a power saw includes a longitudinally extending cavity receiving a block-like wedge member. A planar wall of the cavity and a planar face of the wedge member are arranged for substantial coextensive engagement with respective opposed faces of the saw blade. A spring in the cavity engages the wedge member for urging the same outwardly of the cavity. A pin extends through the wedge and has its opposite ends received in slots in opposed walls of the plunger. These slots are inclined with respect to the longitudinal axis of the plunger and cooperate with the pin to form a cam to urge the planar surfaces into clamping engagement with the blade under the influence of the spring. The blade may be released by forcing the wedge inwardly of the cavity under finger pressure. In a second embodiment, a similar block-like wedge member cooperates with a U-shaped member mounted on the plunger.

  • Patent number: 5101567
Abstract: A chain saw safety switch mounted in combination with a chain braking mechanism such that, when chain braking is initiated, both the chain motion about a chain guide bar and motor operation are automatically stopped. The safety switch according to one embodiment of the invention is mounted to the safety guard of the chain braking mechanism in a position such that it may be rendered operable by either a selective action of the saw operator or by the operator's reaction response to a hazardous operating condition. In either case, the safety switch effects short-circuiting of the motor ignition to stop all motor operation while at the same instant, the safety guard effects stoppage of the cutting chain motion about the chain guide bar. Alternatively, the safety switch is mounted in conjunction with the movable safety guard such that short-circuiting of the motor ignition is effected through the chain braking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5056701
Abstract: An explosive powder charge operated fastening element setting tool includes an interceptor (14) for intercepting or cushioning a driving piston (8) in the event excess energy is supplied to the piston in driving a fastening element into a receiving material. The driving piston (8) has a shoulder (12a) displaceable when excess energy is present into the axially extending region of a deformable stopper (27) in contact with a bolt guide (4). If the interceptor (14) for the driving piston (8) does not afford an adequate braking, the shoulder (12a) runs up against the stopper (27) and the stopper is deformed and tightly clamps or jams the driving piston (8) so that it can not be freely displaced. When such jamming action takes place, the tool operator is signaled that a buffer (23) between the interceptor and the bolt guide and possibly the stopper (27) need to be replaced.
