  • Patent number: 5222423
Abstract: An overlap cam for use in a precision sheeting machine for preventing overlap marks on carbonless paper includes a predetermined outer radius, a predetermined relieved area and an outer circumferential surface, all dictated by various sheeter section operating speeds. At least one lobe projects from the relieved area out to the outer predetermined radius. Rotation of the overlap cam will enable the lobe to engage a clip of sheets traveling at high speed at a point displaced a predetermined distance from the leading edge of a clip for preventing compression of active CB and CF together during braking and thereby preventing an overlap mark from being formed on a previously decelerated clip while still performing braking action of a clip of sheets supplied to the overlap section of the sheeter.

  • Patent number: 5222332
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for removing solid material from a workpiece by using a high velocity stream of ice which is caused to impinge on the workpiece. A working liquid, such as water, is supplied at high pressure to a discharge nozzle with an orifice for forming the needle-like stream. The water is cooled before it reaches the nozzle to a temperature below its freezing point so that at least some of the stream is transformed to ice. Optionally, the stream is cooled after it is emitted from the orifice by flowing an envelope of cryogenic gas around the emitted stream.

  • Patent number: 5207368
Abstract: A dispensing apparatus for serially dispensing flexible plastic bags from a wound package of bags which are joined along perforated severance lines, including a panel, and at least one elongate dispensing slot extending through the panel. The slot includes relatively narrow and linearly aligned outer edge portions, and a laterally extending tongue positioned between the outer edge portions. Also, an opening is located on one side of the tongue. In use, the opening is used to facilitate thread-up of the initial bag through the slot, and the two outer edge portions serve to engage and hold the bag in the slot. During withdrawal, the tongue engages the central portion of the bag, and when the tongue engages the next perforated severance line, or the bottom of the cut out in the case of T-shirt bags, a significant resistance is imparted which causes the severance line to rupture, with the next bag positioned in the slot and ready to be engaged and withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 5195412
Abstract: A cutoff system for exterior siding which includes a flying punch and shear. The system includes a main carriage which is adapted to reciprocate and, in one direction of travel, move at the same speed as the siding to be cut. A pair of punches are then actuated to form the hanger and butt notches at the lateral edges of the siding. Upon withdrawal of the punches, the travel of the main cylinder is slowed such that the siding travels away from the punching area. Upon sensing the notched areas, the main carriage is again moved to travel at the same speed as the siding. The speed is timed such that the center of the notches is located below a shear. This shear is then actuated to form a single parting line across the siding. The carriage is then retracted to await the next cycle of the system. As such, with each cycle of the system, the notches are formed in the trailing and leading edges of adjacent panel segments, and the leading panel segment cut from the continuous siding.

  • Patent number: 5193726
Abstract: Closure usable for dispensing tear off lengths of rolled sheet materials, including plastic trash can liners. A `roll top` door is included which incorporates in it a roller mechanism. The lower supporting body of the apparatus also has provided a roller mechanism. When the roll top door is closed, the roller on the door is brought into contact with the roller on the apparatus. When used, the door on the apparatus is opened and a store of sheet material to be dispensed is placed within the apparatus. An amount of sheet material to be dispensed is played out over the lower roller. When the door of the device is closed, the top roller is brought into contact with the upper surface of the sheet material to be dispensed. The friction between the upper and lower roller provides tension on the sheet material when sheet material is pulled from the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5193424
Abstract: In an apparatus for applying a nonwoven web to a carrier web moving in the same direction, it is to be ensured that the nonwoven web has straight longitudinal edges as it is applied to the carrier web. This is accomplished in permitting the unwound nonwoven web to sag freely in a slack loop between the unwinding station and a feeding conveyor which precedes the edge-trimming device. The velocities of conveyance of the feeding conveyor and of the take-off rolls have a predetermined ratio in dependence on the velocity of the receiving surface on which the carrier web receives the nonwoven web and are controlled in such a manner that the nonwoven web will be subjected to a predetermined tensile stress between the take-off rolls and the carrier web.

  • Patent number: 5191820
Abstract: A feed drive for a cutting machine for cutting foods consists of a claw which penetrates into the product at the rear face of the product to be sliced whereby the claw is driven intermittently or continuously in the direction of feed, and guides the product on a roller conveyor against a cutting device so that slices are cut from the product. For an improved guidance of the product and in order to avoid inconsistent slices in particular in products which are long and whose consistency is soft, there is another force-locking and form-locking drive for the product at the front end of the product in the vicinity of the circular knife of the cutting device coupled with the drive of the claw. This additional drive consists at least of a feed roller which engages the bottom of the product in a force-locking and form-locking fashion and which is driven as a function of the feed path of the claw.

  • Patent number: 5179885
Abstract: A cutting assembly for cutting a continuous sheet of material covering containers which are continuously conveyed in spaced apart container carriers in a predetermined direction at a predetermined speed. The cutting assembly includes a support assembly and a mechanism coupled to the support assembly for rotating the support assembly in an orbital path so that the support assembly passes above the container carriers at substantially the predetermined speed and direction during a first portion of the orbital path. The cutting assembly also includes a blade assembly pivotably coupled to the support assembly for cutting the continuous sheet of material as the support assembly moves above the container carriers during the first portion of the orbital path. The cutting assembly further includes an alignment pin for aligning the blade assembly with respect to the container carriers as the blade assembly cuts the sheet of material.

  • Patent number: 5172620
Abstract: A cutting tool and method of using the same provide for cutting the protective elements of a monotube-type optical fiber cable without severing the buffer tube in order to access the buffer tube and the optical fibers found therein. The cable cutter includes a pair of handles with a pair of blades connected to the handles in the same manner as a typical shear-type cable cutter. The blades are designed with specifically dimensioned slots to protect the buffer tube from being severed while allowing the remaining cable components to be cut by the blades. An alignment slot is utilized in one blade to align the cable to be cut. In a second embodiment, strength member slots are formed in each blade for allowing the strength members of the monotube cable to remain unsevered while the remaining protective components are cut.

  • Patent number: 5172867
Abstract: A continuous, upright, digester for paper pulp is utilized as a structural support for accessory vessels, such as a chip bin and flash tanks. Generally horizontal steel beams are connected to the digester and extend outwardly from opposite sides of the digester vessel. One set of beams is connected to the impregnation vessel, and supports the chip bin on them. A steaming vessel may be mounted on a horizontal platform below the chip bin. On the opposite side of the digester, the second horizontal beams extend to a pair of vertical legs spaced apart approximately the diameter of the digester. First and second flash tanks, one above the other, are supported by the second set of horizontal beams, and a third set below the second set, those beams--and structures connected to them--being the only support for the flash tanks.
