  • Patent number: 6200289
Abstract: An automatic injection device includes a drive mechanism and a sensor used to determine an internal characteristic such as a force or internal pressure generated during an injection process. This characteristic is then used as a control parameter by a microprocessor or controller which generates corresponding commands to the drive mechanism. In a particularly advantageous embodiment, the characteristic is used to calculate an exit pressure at which fluid ejected by the device through an elongated tube. The drive mechanism is then operated in such a manner that the exit pressure is maintained at a predetermined level to insure that a patient does not suffer pain and/or tissue damage.

  • Patent number: 6198966
Abstract: A drug delivery system recirculate carrier fluid in closed-loop fashion, thereby requiring only a relatively small amount of carrier fluid for operation. A pump provides continuous flow of carrier fluid to a delivery interface in a recirculating path. A metering device, which may be either passive or active, dispenses drug from a reservoir into the carrier fluid in the recirculating path and maintains a constant concentration of drug at the delivery interface, which may comprise a semipermeable membrane. The recirculating path is preferably in the form of a dual-lumen catheter which provides a supply leg to a delivery interface and a return leg from the drug delivery interface to the pump. Drug concentration sensors may be provided to measure the concentration of drug in the recirculating path or in the human body and to actively adjust the metering device accordingly.

  • Patent number: 6197005
Abstract: The check valve comprises an inlet duct (31) , an outlet duct (32) and a valve chamber (34) arranged between them. The valve chamber (34) is permanently connected with the inlet duct (31) via openings (35). On a blind duct (33) a valve member (36) is mounted which is made up of a flexible inherently stable hose. The valve member (36) extends into the outlet duct (32) and contacts the inner surface of the outlet duct. At a pressure exceeding the opening pressure of the valve the valve member (36) is lifted off the inner surface of the outlet duct (32).

  • Patent number: 6196991
Abstract: A dual-filled twin bag, a packaging including the twin bag, and a method for forming the packaged twin bags are provided. Each of two bags, a solution bag (10) and a drain bag (12) for a system used for a peritoneal dialysis procedure, are filled, at least partially, with a solution (14). A tubing set (16) connects the two filled bags (10,12) and may also be filled with solution (14) which is added to the bags (10,12) and the tubing set (16) during the manufacturing process. The tubing set (16) is sandwiched between the solution bag (10) and the drain bag (12) and subsequently packaged in an overpouch (24). The method for forming the package including the bags filled with solution is simplified and the overall package size is reduced due to the sandwiched tubing set (16) between the solution bags (10,12) and the provision of solution in both bags (10,12).

  • Patent number: 6193692
Abstract: A verres needle assembly includes an outer sheath member, a detachable stylet subassembly and a high flow adaptor that replaces the stylet subassembly. The outer sheath includes a cutting edge for making an initial surgical incision. The stylet subassembly is spring loaded to protect the cutting edge after the initial incision and also permit gas to be injected to partially inflate a body cavity. A simple half twist or luer lock connection allows the stylet subassembly to be easily removed and replaced by a high flow adaptor. Gas can then be injected through the outer sheath which remains in position after removal of the stylet subassembly without any internal restriction. The entire insufflation procedure takes less time than for a conventional verres needle.

  • Patent number: 5603445
Abstract: Improved ultrasonic wire bonders, and improvements to ultrasonic wire bonding transducers that are used with such ultrasonic wire bonders. The improvements to the ultrasonic wire bonding transducer includes driver-node mounting of the transducer and a clamping arrangement for a bonding tool in the transducer. The driver-node mounting of the transducer is achieved by mounting it in the ultrasonic bonder such that a 3/4--wavelength distance is created between a mounting bracket of the transducer and a distal end of the transducer at which the bonding tool is disposed. As a result, vibrational problems caused by the transducer not being located at the node are eliminated. The driver-node mounting aspect of the present invention provides a shorter overall transducer and concentrates the mass at the driver end for less tool impact, and reduces manufacturing variables related to achieving a one-half wavelength distance between the driver node and the transducer node.

  • Patent number: 5588243
Abstract: A device for transmitting irregular jerking or darting motions to the end of a fishing line from a boat propelled by an oar including apparatus for securing a modified downrigger release clamp to a pulley line suspended between the end of a row boar oar and a bracket adjacent to the handle of the oar. An attachment at the end of the oar comprises two opposed clamping members with resilient pads on the inner faces thereof and an extension arm on one of them projecting outwardly and rearwardly from the end thereof. Apertures at the end of the extension arm have a pulley line therethrough and through a bracket secured adjacent the oar handle which has an outwardly extending end portion through which the pulley line is fixed. The line has crimps therein for holding a downrigger release clamp in place thereon. Through the action of the present apparatus a repetitive jerky line motion is imparted to the fishing line held by the downrigger release clamp.

  • Patent number: 5535539
Abstract: A fishing pole or rod having a replaceable rear extension of a predetermined length. A fishing rod handle attached to a rod blank with a fixed front handle having a front reel seat incorporated therein with a threaded rear portion. A threaded extension is adapted to thread onto the rear portion of the front fixed handle. A rotatable rear reel seat is advanced forward by the threaded extension. A replaceable extension is adapted to fictionally fit the exterior diameter of the threaded extension. The replaceable extension has a length that is selected depending upon the individual user's personal preference. A plug having weights therein is placed at the open rear end of the replaceable extension that additionally facilitates the customizing of the balance and feel of the fishing rod, depending upon the individual's personal preference or desire. Therefore, a custom rod can easily be fabricated or changed quickly and inexpensively.
