  • Patent number: 5513462
Abstract: Method for harvesting of brine shrimp eggs (cysts) from bodies of salt water. A floating collection boat is used with a very long floating boom, which is first deployed across the paths of wind blown individual colonies. Numerous colonies are quickly intercepted, and enclosed by upwind circling of the boom. With subsequent constriction of the enclosure, the cysts are consentrated into a thick slurry at the collection boat.

  • Patent number: 5514008
Abstract: A board mounted connector for interconnecting the conductors of the non-terminated end of a flexible circuit or flexible cable to conductive traces on a printed circuit board. The connector includes a two part intermatable housing. The first part of the housing is attached to the circuit board while the second part, having end flanges that slidingly engage the ends of the first part, is movable with respect to the first part between a closed position where the conductors of the flexible circuit are held in contacting engagement with the contacts of the connector and an open position where the flexible circuit is free to be inserted into or removed from the connector. A positive stop is associated with each end of the connector, adjacent diagonally opposite corners, to render the second parts captive to the first part. A detent mechanism is associated with each end of the connector to bias the second part in both its open and closed positions.

  • Patent number: 5511339
Abstract: A trap is provided for rodents, such as mice, rats and similar small animals, which consists of a cabinet having an upper entrance, to allow the rodents to enter and a lower chamber to retain the rodents. A platform is provided having a first end and a second end. A component is for pivotally mounting the platform across its center between the first end and the second end within the cabinet. A structure is for maintaining the platform in a normally horizontal position, with its first end level with the upper entrance of the cabinet. A bait bag is suspended in the cabinet directly above the second end of the platform, opposite from the upper entrance to attract the rodents onto the second end of the platform. An apparatus activated by the rodents at the bait bag, is for pivoting the second end of the platform downwardly, so that the rodents will drop into the lower chamber of the cabinet and be retained therein.

  • Patent number: 5509459
Abstract: A process for forming pressure cast alumina tile reinforced aluminum alloy rmor in which a silver coated aluminum disc is first inserted into a mold assembly, the mold assembly includes a base plate, a hollow steel die with a removable steel liner located on the base plate, a plug disposed on the base plate within the die cavity, and a punch movably disposed within the die cavity, the aluminum disc being inserted within the die cavity over the plug. Next, an alumina tile preform is prepared by cutting a plurality of alumina tiles and weaving the tiles together with a stiff steel wire. The alumina tile preform is inserted over the silver coated aluminum disc in the cavity of mold assembly. The steel die, the plug and the disc are heated. The punch is also heated separately. A melt of molten aluminum is prepared and poured into the die cavity, completely covering the alumina tile preform. • Patent number: 5509460
Abstract: A liquid metal/solid metal interface detecting device comprises in general a radiation source for generating gamma radiation, which is directed to pass through a strand extruded from a continuous casting mold. A detector detects the gamma radiation passing through the partially solidified strand to determine a spatial profile for a liquid metal/solid metal interface by relying on the different gamma radiation attenuation characteristics of the solid metal and the liquid metal. Preferably, the gamma radiation is at energies of greater than one million electron volts. In some embodiments, a movable support carries the radiation source and the detector and moves the radiation source and detector along and around the ingot enabling generation of a three-dimensional profile of the liquid metal/solid metal interface by utilizing tomographic imaging techniques.

  • Patent number: 5507336
Abstract: A method of constructing a fully dense metal part or a metal mold half for mating with another mold half to form a mold for casting multiple parts. Steps include placing a pattern in a tubular mold base, casting a ceramic member onto critical surfaces of the pattern, removing the pattern from the mold base, covering the critical surfaces transferred to the ceramic member with a powdered metal having a melting temperature greater than that of an infiltration metal, placing a quantity of an infiltration metal over the powdered metal, placing the tubular mold base in a furnace at a temperature sufficient to melt the infiltration metal without melting the powdered metal, and removing the ceramic member from the first open end of the tubular mold base to expose the critical surfaces. The quantity of the infiltration metal is sufficient to fill voids between the particles of the powdered metal when the infiltration metal is melted, thereby generating a fully dense metal part.

  • Patent number: 5505247
Abstract: In order to effectively enhance the overall efficiency in casting operations, a process and system for cooling and cleaning a casting is disclosed. The process and system include removing the casting from a molding machine after it has been formed. The casting is then moved to a punch-out station for removing it from a sand mold. Next, the casting is moved to a shake-out station for shaking residual sand from it. The casting is then conveyed away from the shake-out station on a cooling conveyor. Next, the temperature of the casting is monitored at or near a downstream end of the cooling conveyor. The casting is then transferred from the cooling conveyor into a vibratory cooling drum where it is further cooled. In addition to these unique aspects, the process and system includes controlling the rate of cooling of the casting within the vibratory cooling drum.

  • Patent number: 5505013
Abstract: A purse ring for interconnecting a purse seine to a purse line has a frame with a first roller mounted across the frame, creating a purse line passageway. The first roller permits rolling engagement with the purse line as the purse line is retrieved during seiner operations. The frame of the roller is formed with a pivotable cable release arm to permit insertion or withdrawal of the purse line from the purse line passageway. A crossbar can also be attached across the frame which forms a bridle line passageway for connecting the purse ring to a bridle line or some other means of connection to the seine. A second roller can be mounted on the crossbar to permit rolling engagement with the purse line. The frame is formed with a pair of elbows in the frame next to the first roller, creating a widening of the frame around the purse line passageway near the first roller.

  • Patent number: 5501027
Abstract: A fishing rod alert device having an alarm signal generator, and a telescoping stake to anchor the device to the ground. The alarm signal generator has a trip bar that supports the rod near its tip. The trip bar is pivoted and spring biased. When a fish strikes the lure the trip bar is caused to pivot. After the strike the trip bar rebounds and impinges on a switch to activate the alarm signal generator, thus producing an audible and/or visual alarm signal. The sensitivity of the alarm signal generator can be adjusted by moving the pivot point of the trip bar relative to the switch.

  • Patent number: 5500990
Abstract: A riveting tool includes a tool body having a hydraulic controlled rivet shank clamping assembly and a rivet suction system. A control valve is provided for directing a flow of pressurized air to the rivet clamping assembly and the rivet suction system. The control valve includes a valve rod having a valve rod piston on an upper end and a plurality of radial steps arranged on an outer surface of a lower end. A trigger is mounted slidably in a trigger transverse guide in the tool body and a spring is located within the trigger transverse guide such that pressure applied to the trigger causes the valve rod to move within the control valve from a first to a second position. When the valve rod is in the first position, pressurized air is guided to the rivet suction system. When the valve rod is in the second position, pressurized air is guided to a space below a pneumatic piston. A space above the pneumatic piston is connected to the hydraulic cylinder of the hydraulic controlled rivet shank clamping assembly.
