  • Patent number: 10674134
Abstract: A higher compression rate or better rate/distortion ratio may be achieved by adopting or predicting second coding parameters used for encoding a second view of the multi-view signal from first coding parameters used in encoding a first view of the multi-view signal. In other words, redundancies between views of a multi-view signal are not restricted to the views themselves, such as the video information thereof, but that the coding parameters in encoding these views in parallel show similarities, which may be exploited in order to further improve the coding rate.

  • Patent number: 10650592
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for providing a rotated spherical viewpoint (RSV). In one or more embodiments, the RSV is implemented using equirectangular projections (ERPs). The RSV methodologies described herein are particularly suitable for panning within virtual reality (VR) or 360° panoramic content as there is minimal, if any, geometric distortions at the edge of a given viewport. Moreover, the RSV methodologies described herein may reduce the bandwidth requirements of, for example, devices operating in a client-server architecture. Additionally, the computation requirements for providing RSV are minimal and can be provided using relatively simple rotation transforms.

  • Patent number: 10645311
Abstract: A system and method for automated operation of a camera system provides for a positioning system that moves the camera system to a field of view to search for objects or events of interest to track. If objects or events of interest are detected prior to the expiration of a dwell timer, the dwell timer is interrupted and tracking of the objects or events of interest is initiated. To prevent the security camera from being distracted indefinitely by unimportant objects, the positioning system changes the field of view of the security system upon expiration of a track timer. Alternatively, if the security camera does not identify an object to track prior to expiration of a dwell timer, then the positioning system changes the field of view of the camera system to search for other objects or events of interest.

  • Patent number: 10638169
Abstract: A video streaming method for transitioning between multiple sequences of coded video data may include receiving and decoding transmission units from a first sequence of coded video data. In response to a request to transition to a second sequence of coded video data, the method may determine whether a time to transition to the second sequence of coded video data can be reduced by transitioning to the second sequence of coded video data via an intermediate sequence of coded video data. If the time can be reduced, the method may include receiving at least one transmission unit from an intermediate sequence of coded video data that corresponds to the request to transition, decoding the transmission unit from the intermediate sequence, and transitioning from the first sequence to the second sequence via the decoded transmission unit from the intermediate sequence.

  • Patent number: 10595033
Abstract: An image-processing apparatus and method for variable length coding of header data for image compression, includes retrieval of an input image stored in a first storage space in a memory. The input image is partitioned into a plurality of blocks. A header section is generated comprising a sequence of header bits having a first number of bits for a first block of the plurality of blocks based on application of a sequential encoding scheme on the first block. The header section in which the sequence of header bits may indicate a coding type, a transform type, a prediction type, and a QP value selected in the sequential encoding scheme, is encoded. The selected QP value may be encoded by variable length coding to reduce the first number of bits to a second number of bits in the encoded header section.

  • Patent number: 10586312
Abstract: A method for video compression through image processing and object detection, based on images or a digital video stream of images, to enhance and isolate frequency domain signals representing content to be identified, and decrease or ignore frequency domain noise with respect to the content. A digital image or sequence of digital images defined in a spatial domain are obtained. One or more pairs of sparse zones are selected, each pair generating a selected feature, each zone defined by two sequences of spatial data. The selected features are transformed into frequency domain data. The transfer function, shape and direction of the frequency domain data are varied for each zone, thus generating a normalized complex vector for each feature. The normalized complex vectors are then combined to define a model of the content to be identified.

  • Patent number: 10578850
Abstract: A fluorescence microscopy inspection system includes light sources able to emit light that causes a specimen to fluoresce and light that does not cause a specimen to fluoresce. The emitted light is directed through one or more filters and objective channels towards a specimen. A ring of lights projects light at the specimen at an oblique angle through a darkfield channel. One of the filters may modify the light to match a predetermined bandgap energy associated with the specimen and another filter may filter wavelengths of light reflected from the specimen and to a camera. The camera may produce an image from the received light and specimen classification and feature analysis may be performed on the image.

  • Patent number: 10567801
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide method and apparatus for video coding. In some examples, an apparatus includes processing circuitry. The processing circuitry determines an intra prediction mode for generating a prediction image of a current block, determines one or more primary transforms according to signaling information that is extracted from a coded video bitstream, and determines a secondary transform according to the determined intra prediction mode and the determined one or more primary transforms. The processing circuitry also reconstructs a residue image of the current block based on one or more coefficients of an input block extracted from the coded video bitstream, the determined one or more primary transforms, and the determined secondary transform. The processing circuitry then reconstructs an image of the current block based on the prediction image and the residue image of the current block.

  • Patent number: 10547856
Abstract: A bitrate allocation engine allocates bitrates for distributed encoding of source data. Upon receiving a chunk of source data, the bitrate allocation engine generates a curve based on multiple points that each specify a different visual quality level and corresponding encoding bitrate for encoding the chunk. Subsequently, the bitrate allocation engine computes an optimized encoding bitrate based on the generated curve and an optimization factor that is associated with different visual quality levels and corresponding encoding bitrates for multiple chunks of the source data. The bitrate allocation engine then causes the chunk to be encoded at the optimized encoding bitrate. Advantageously, the resulting encoded chunk is optimized with respect to the optimization factor for multiple chunks of the source data.
