  • Patent number: 5376006
Abstract: The present invention discloses high viscosity sustained release dental compositions, such as tooth bleaching or fluoride compositions, for treating tooth surfaces. For maximum results, an improved dental tray having reservoirs for holding the dental composition adjacent the desired tooth surfaces is preferably used in combination with the sustained release dental composition. The sustained release dental compositions include a high carboxypolymethylene concentration which results in very high viscosity. The high level of carboxypolymethylene makes dilution of the dental compositions from saliva difficult and time consuming so that the compositions stay within the tray reservoirs, thereby providing sustained release. The concentrated carboxypolymethylene adds a unique tackiness to the dental composition which helps retain and seal the soft tray material against the patient's teeth.

  • Patent number: 5376452
Abstract: Methods are described for controlling the transbilayer distribution of ionizable lipids and proteins in vesicles. Control of the ion gradient of the exterior bathing medium in relation to that of the interior entrapped aqueous compartment of the vesicles induces migration of ionizable lipids or proteins to one or the other of the monolayers comprising the bilayer. This can result in an asymmetric distribution of the ionizable lipid or ionizable protein. The basic ionizable lipids, such as stearylamine and sphingosine, are sequestered into the inner monolayer when the liposome interior is acidic relative to the liposome exterior. Conversely, acidic ionizable lipids such as oleic acid and stearic acid are sequestered into the inner monolayer when the liposome interior is basic relative to the liposome exterior bathing solution.

  • Patent number: 5368775
Abstract: A corrosion control composition and method for boiler/condensate steam systems is provided. Corrosion is controlled by the addition to the feedwater of a relatively high molecular weight amine. The high molecular weight amine is formulated so that at the conditions of temperature and pressure in the boiler/condensate steam system, partial degradation into more volatile amines occurs. The resulting blend of neutralizing amines provides the superior corrosion control of a blend of neutralizing amines from a single amine feed. The preferred high molecular weight amine is dimethylaminopropylamine which will partially degrade into dimethylamine, trimethylamine, methylamine, and dimethylaminopropanol.
