  • Patent number: 4715097
Abstract: An arrangement for the entanglement of multi-filament thread can entangle warp threads travelling from spools on a creel to a warping machine. This arrangement has a jet arm adapted to communicate with a source of compressed air. The arrangement has a plurality of adjacently placed plates. Each adjacent pair of the plates has a separating element located between each. These plates are positioned to provide between them a plurality of parallel channels. Each of these channels is shaped as an outwardly directed slot having side walls formed by a corresponding adjacent pair of the plates. The slot has a base formed by the separating element corresponding thereto. For each adjacent pair of the plates, at least one of them includes: (a) a reservoir adapted to communicate with the source of compressed air, and (b) a bore in the side wall communicating with the reservoir for acting as a perpendicularly directed air jet.

  • Patent number: 4714182
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making bows comprises a tie member wrapping machine which wraps a tie member around a run of ribbon and twists it at the free ends. In order to dispose the tie at the center of the run of ribbon, a jig is mounted on the head of the wrapping machine to position the ribbon at the slot of the machine and to center the ribbon relative to the slot. The jig includes diverging rods around which the ribbon is wrapped. As the ribbon is moved rearwardly into the slot, a slack develops in the ribbon to permit a tight cinching of the central portion by the tie member.

  • Patent number: 4706349
Abstract: The adjustable-curvature roll of the present invention includes a hollow, cylindrical axle in which two rods are inserted. Each of these rods is securely fastened to an endplate at one end of the axle, and the opposite end of each rod is threaded within one of two oppositely rotating intermeshed gears. An adjusting hexagon or other similar adjusting device is connected to one of the meshed gears and the turning of the adjusting device in one direction causes an increase in the compression applied to one of the rods while at the same time exerting an increased tension on the other rod which is connected to the oppositely rotating gear. This combination of tension and compression causes the curvature of the roll to change. An indicator attached to the adjusting device provides a reading of the chosen degree of curvature. The axle may be surrounded by an outer sleeve which rotates, through the aid of ball bearings, around the axle.

  • Patent number: 4701985
Abstract: The apparatus detects corduroy cutter needles coming out of the weft yarn loop channels which are being cut open by the needles, by means of a laser beam scanning about 10 to 20 times a second, transversely across the region where the parallel needles are working. The scanning laser beam creates a diffused light pattern having the general form of a transversely oriented geometric prism, e.g. a cylinder; and a plurality of detector devices determines any variation in the light distribution, as to time and lateral distance, in this scattered or diffused ight pattern. A logic circuit carries out and displays the results of the scanning and detecting, and stops the corduroy cutting machine when an emerged needle is detected.

  • Patent number: 4702611
Abstract: An ice cream product mixer of the type having a housing with an open forward side to receive fragile ice cream product serving cups, a mixing head rotating about a vertical axis and having blades each of which generally incline with respect to the axis. Each blade has a lower end section having an undersurface with a lowermost area which is generally disposed substantially closer to a horizontal plane than is the inclination of the undersurface of parts of each blade which are closer to the axis than the lowermost area, so as to cooperate with low speeds for reducing the danger of rupturing the bottom of a fragile cardboard cup and of ice cream spillage therethrough. With the speed low, the use of high driving power and high blade pitch makes possible the rapid mixing of hard ingredients into stiff ice cream in the cups, the outer surfaces of the blades being blunt to reduce danger of puncturing the sides of the fragile cups.

  • Patent number: 4701986
Abstract: In apparatus for applying a sliver at a bias to an endless backing web in the making of a paper machine felt, a needle machine is preceded by a sliver feeder, which is operable by a traversing drive to perform a traversing movement across the working width of the needle machine. Irregularities can be avoided because an automatically controlled position-correcting mechanism is provided, which serves to compensate any deviation of the actual course of one longitudinal edge of the backing web from a predetermined, desired course of said longitudinal edge, and means are provided for controlling the traversing drive so that the traversing movement of the sliver feeder will be influenced by changes of the width and/or length of the backing web.

  • Patent number: 4693350
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a clutch-brake unit having a clutch disc pack and a separate brake disc pack which are designed for selective actuation by a single piston arrangement to transmit rotational driving forces from an input shaft to an output shaft via the clutch disc pack and to brake rotation of the ouput shaft via the brake disc pack as desired. An integral oil pump is provided on the input shaft and cooperates with portions of the housing to provide a high volume centrifugal pumping action to continuously circulate oil through passages provided in the housing, input shaft, output shaft and across the clutch and brake disc pads so as to cool them. In one embodiment, the integral oil pump includes a pump chamber separate from the central cavity formed by the housing and also working chambers for the clutch and brake disc packs are separated from the central cavity by annular inner housings.
