Abstract: Some embodiments relate to genetically engineered bacterial strains for modulation of levels of the bacterial metabolite 4-ethylphenol (4EP) and its sulfated form, 4-ethylphenyl sulfate (4EPS). In some embodiments, the bacteria reduce or inhibit production of 4EP or 4EPS in the gut of a subject. The bacteria can ameliorate, delay the onset, or reduce the likelihood of one or more symptoms associated with anxiety and/or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the subject.

Abstract: Provided is a composition that may be used for a specific use application, such as a composition for enhancing a breast milk component. A composition containing a bacterium of the genus Bifidobacterium as an active ingredient is described.
Abstract: A method for preparing a solid medium platform for cultivating algae, comprising obtaining an algae culture solution (“ACS”) at approximately room temperature of a specific volumetric quantity, denoted “x”; creating raw agarose solution (“AS”) by adding low melting point agarose powder (“AP”) to water of a volume equal to “x” in a container that is different from the one used for said ACS; heating and stirring AS; cooling or waiting for the AS to cool down to approximately 15-35% above the gelling temperature of the AS; adding micronutrients supportive of algae growth after AS has cooled to approximately 15-35% above the gelling temperature of the AS to create an agarose micronutrient solution (“AMS”); after the AMS has cooled, combining the AMS with ACS and pouring the mixture into an open container and stirring; apportioning the AMS/ACS mixture into cultivating container(s); and waiting for the mixture to congeal.
Abstract: The present invention comprises methods and composition for control of plant pathogens. Isolated bacteria, deposited with ATCC under the Budapest Treaty, are effective to control plant pathogens.
Abstract: A method for testing drug response of a cardiomyocyte, the method comprising: testing a response of the cardiomyocyte to an added drug in a culture medium under a condition in which a distance from a liquid surface of the culture medium to a bottom surface of a culture vessel contacted by the cardiomyocyte is 5.0 mm or less; or testing a response of the cardiomyocyte to an added drug immediately after placing the cardiomyocyte in a culture medium under a condition in which a distance from a liquid surface of the culture medium to a bottom surface of a culture vessel contacted by the cardiomyocyte is 5.0 mm or less.
Abstract: Use of a functional thylakoid extract, particularly in admixture with a physiologically acceptable carrier, in pharmaceutical application, in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, and method for the treatment thereof. Abstract: One or more live substances is cultured at a plurality of test locations of a test vessel. The test locations include a thermochromic material and one or more test substances. A spectral shift in light emanating from the thermochromic material of the test locations is detected. The spectral shift occurs in response to an increase or decrease in energy conversion by the live substance. An effect of the one or more test substances on the live substances is determined based on the detected spectral shift.

Abstract: A beverage comprising water, phycocyanin and having a heavy metals content below a threshold amount, the beverage having a pH within a certain range and a minimum acceptable shelf life, by optimizing the steps in the production of the beverage, but without adding many chemical substances and without carrying out harsh chemical treatment on the natural substances. By the combined use of a phycocyanin obtained, for example, by ultrafiltration or by treatment under pressure, with sterile demineralized water, and mixing the other components separately from the bacteria and other contaminants, in an aseptic environment, it is possible to provide a beverage that has nutraceutical effects, with low heavy metals content, at a suitable pH, and with an extended shelf life.
