  • Patent number: 5277000
Abstract: In order to grind clothing of a carding element, such as a cylinder of a textile machine, such as a card, during operation of the cylinder, a slide is moved back-and-forth across the clothing. The slide is reciprocated back-and-forth by an inner run of a drive belt guided in guides such that the drive belt together with a grinding element, like a grinding stone, closes a housing totally covering the arrangement. As a result, neither grinding dust nor fibers can enter the housing. Each time the grinding stone moves past a grinding member, such as a diamond rake or diamond roller this grinding stone is re-ground, so that the clothing is maintained sharpened by the continuous grinding operation and the grinding stone itself is cleaned or re-ground by the grinding member. Also, structure detects the degree of wear of the grinding element so that upon reaching a predetermined value such grinding element can be replaced.

  • Patent number: 5277082
Abstract: A strip of heat activated structural adhesive film is sandwiched between two thin strips of tempered steel shim stock, and the combined strips are placed into a semi-cylindrical cavity defined by a female mold member or block. A mating male mold member or metal bar presses the strips into the cavity while the parts are heated within a heated platen hydraulic press to form a laminated curved shoe body. After the shoe body is cooled, a semi-cylindrical collar is attached by another strip of the adhesive to one end portion of the laminated shoe body and with similar mold members heated within the press. The attached collar seats within a mating recess formed within a semi-circular mounting member and is removably secured by screws to provide for conveniently replacing the shoe body.

  • Patent number: 5272940
Abstract: A rotary cutting tool has a plurality of helical channels located in the body of the rotary cutting tool. Individual cutter segments are bonded within each helical channel to form a continuous helical cutting edge that is machined to a finished state. An area of the tool body adjacent to the helical channel is removed to create helical flutes. Preferably, the segments are cut from disks of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) or polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN).

  • Patent number: 5272941
Abstract: A cable severing and stripping apparatus is disclosed having cable supporting, cutting and stripping devices for providing cable preparation for use. Energy is transmitted transversely through the cable passing through each layer interface. Echoes of the energy as it passes the layer interfaces are received at the surface of the cable. The time to pass through each of the layers is recorded and the thickness of each of the layers is then determined. A severing device is then controlled to the determined depth of cut to assure proper layer cutting without over or under cutting.

  • Patent number: 5271296
Abstract: The automated container cap remover and method for cap removal includes a drive for causing relative rotation to occur between a container cap and a cap engaging unit. The drive brings the cap engaging unit into engagement with the cap and then slips to permit the cap to be unscrewed from the container. A control unit senses the torque created by the relative rotation between the cap and cap engaging unit, and when a drop in torque is sensed, the control unit causes the drive to move the cap and cap engaging unit out of engagement.

  • Patent number: 5267366
Abstract: Jaw members are pivoted together such that cooperating working end portions of the jaw members are movable toward and away from each other. The jaw members have tang or butt portions extending opposite the pivot from the working end portions. Such butt portions are, in turn, pivoted to elongated handles which are channel shaped and define a recess between them into which the interconnected jaw members can be swung so as to be nested in the handles. The pivots connecting the butt portions of the jaw members to the handles are not coaxial but rather are mutually oblique in such a manner that swinging of the jaw members from the retracted or nested position to the working position necessarily results in spreading the handles relatively apart. Similarly, movement of the jaw members from the projected position to the retracted or nested position automatically swings the handles together. Mechanism is provided to interconnect the handles automatically when the jaw members are retracted.

  • Patent number: 5267494
Abstract: The present disclosure provides an improved bottle opener incorporated on a key having a head and a body. The head has a U-shaped cutout at a downward angle in the range of about 30.degree. to about 60.degree. with fulcrum and lifting edges. The cutout has a width of about -5% to about +8% that of the thickness of a bottle cap. The fulcrum edge has a radius at the cutout opening that engages the top of a bottle cap without puncturing it. The lifting edge passes beneath the rim of the bottle cap, and the body is long enough to provide leverage sufficient to remove the bottle cap.

  • Patent number: 5265500
Abstract: A method of making a shock-resistant and wear-resistant composite steel tool comprises providing a steel tool body having a working edge, and providing a working part material of nonporous wrought steel in an unhardened state which is hardenable to a hardness greater than that of the body. The working part material, in its unhardened state, is fused by welding to the working edge of the tool body while being pressed forcibly against the working edge. After the fusion step, the outer surface of the working part material is hardened to a hardness greater than that of the body of the tool, the depth of penetration of such hardening being limited to the region immediately adjoining the outer surface of the material so that the underlying region of the working part remains ductile, and the weld is normalized thereby increasing its ductility and resultant shock resistance.

  • Patent number: 5261190
Abstract: An eccentric grinder has a housing provided with a gear rim an eccentrically rotating grinding disc provided with a gear rim which rolls on the gear rim of the housing and in operation without load provides an additional rotary movement of the grinding disc. The gear rim of the grinding disc is a friction rim so that in operation without load there is a minimum slippage and in operation under load there is a maximum slippage of the rims relative to one another. The gear rim of the housing is fixed to the housing and includes a toothed rim which is formed by a ring-shaped toothed belt with a toothing while the gear rim of the grinding disc has a plurality of projections which incompletely engage in the toothing of the gear rim of the housing and therefore an elastic deformation of the projections gives the grinding disc a shaking movement with partial meshing under maximum slippage.
