  • Patent number: 4290176
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for the formation of slide-fastener stringers wherein coupling members of a thermoplastic synthetic resin are bent into a U configuration to straddle the edges of respective fabric support tapes also composed of thermoplastic synthetic-resin filaments or yarns at least in the region in which the tape is straddled by the shanks of each coupling member. The shanks of the coupling members are thermally welded together through the tape and thereby also bonded to the filaments or yarn between the shanks; thereafter the tapes bearing the coupling members are subjected to thermofixing i.e. heating to shrink the tapes thereby condensing the meshes formed by the yarn or filaments.

  • Patent number: 4290282
Abstract: A deadbolt lock mechanism of the single cylinder type is disclosed having a latch bolt which is movable between extended and retracted positions by means of a lock cylinder at one side thereof. A thumbturn, together with manually movable coupling control means for controlling the coupling between the thumbturn and latch bolt are located at the other side of the mechanism. In the bolt retracted position, the coupling control means is movable between coupling enabling and disabling positions to condition the coupling for operation of the latch bolt by the thumbturn in the enabling position thereof, and for disabling such latch bolt operation by the thumbturn in the disabling position. Consequently, the latch bolt is operable by the lock cylinder in any position of the thumbturn and coupling control means, whereas the thumbturn is enabled for operation of the latch bolt only when the coupling control means has been moved into enabling position.

  • Patent number: 4289245
Abstract: A collapsible merchandise display stand includes an elongated cylindrical center support member attached to a base. Various patterns of interlocking open-ended display boxes are formed from flat blanks of material having central, second and third spaced-apart openings in them. The central and second, and central and third, openings are each separated by a pair of spaced-apart parallel score lines. When the blanks are folded on the pairs of score lines to cause the three portions of the display member overlie one another, all three of the spaced-apart openings are in alignment to permit passage of the center post member through them to form each box of the display. Several such display boxes are stacked on the elongated center support member, and interlocking tabs and tab receiving openings on each of the display boxes are used to create various patterns, such as a spiral pattern, for the purposes of the display.

  • Patent number: 4287733
Abstract: A lock system has an elongated key provided with a plurality of permanent magnets spaced axially and angularly apart along the key in a predetermined magnet array. A cylinder having no moving parts defines a passage generally complementary to this key and provided with a plurality of magnetic-field detectors at least some of which are arrayed to be in line with the magnets of the key when it is inserted into the passage. An electronic circuit is connected to these detectors and to an electrically operable latch and is programmed to open the latch when those detectors that are in line with the permanent magnets change state in a manner indicating that they are juxtaposed with the respective magnets, but not when one or more detectors out of line with the magnet array are similarly subjected to a magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 4287994
Abstract: A storage rack having specially configured wedging connector assemblies secured to the ends of horizontal load-carrying beams that fit onto upright posts to detachably connect and wedgingly secure the beams to the posts. In the preferred form, each post has a recessed front wall that defines a plurality of finger-receiving openings. Each of the openings has at least one inclined wedging surface that provides tighter engagement of the connector assembly at the end of each load-carrying beam with its associated upright post in response to the downward force exerted by the beam and its load. In order to minimize longitudinal and lateral shifting of the beams under load or upon accidental forklift impact, each of the wedging connector assemblies has a plurality of hook-shaped fingers with inclined camming portions that cammingly engage and securely wedge against the wedging surfaces of the posts.

  • Patent number: 4287835
Abstract: A tray is attached to the base of an over-the-bed table normally used by bed-ridden patients. This tray provides a convenient and readily available place for the patient to place his or her slippers to prevent them from being shoved under the bed or across the room. It also provides the patient with a convenient footrest when using the table either while sitting on the edge of the bed or in a chair. One version of the tray is pivotable in order that the patient may pivot it with his or her feet to the most comfortable angle. When the tray is pivoted, a method is provided for locking the table such that it will not move away from the patient due to the horizontal force vector resulting therefrom. Another version of the tray may be raised or lowered to suit the comfort of the patient.
