  • Patent number: 4265002
Abstract: Fastening means for a pair of flaps or the like are provided having first and second ferromagnetic plates, an elongated ferromagnetic element of cross-sectional area smaller than the area of the surfaces of either plate affixed at one end thereof substantially normal to a surface of the first of the plates, and magnetic means affixed in close proximity to the elongated element along a substantial portion, but not all, of its length. It is also contemplated that the above elements will be mounted by means of first and second thermoplastic mounting elements upon a pair of thermoplastic strips, which strips are affixable to facing surfaces of the flaps, in such a way that the nonsecured end of the elongated element releasably lockably engages a surface of the second plate in flush abutting relation when the fastening means is in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4265005
Abstract: A saddle for a U-bolt clamp is formed of a pair of tubular housings arranged to receive and slide axially upon the legs of a U-bolt having a semicircular bight, with the housings connected by a web portion consisting of a pair of parallel planar sections of sheet steel welded together in full face contact and extending transversely between the housings integral therewith. The upper (bight facing) edge of each planar section is curved as a semicircular recess on the radius of the U-bolt bight. The mid portion of each planar web section is, for its entire length between the tubular housings, embossed with deep ribs to provide web stiffeners materially reinforcing the entire web portion of the saddle.

  • Patent number: 4264032
Abstract: The retriever comprises a hinged, foldable mailbox containing arm which is positioned in a vertical, folded upright position medially between the user's home and the position on a highway at which the mail delivery vehicle will stop. In the folded, upright position, the arm is locked. A release cord extends to the mail delivery position. A second release cord extends to the house. The locking mechanism may be released by tugging on one of the release cords at which time the arm will assume a horizontal extended position in the direction of the release cord. In this manner, the mailbox may selectively be positioned at the road or at the highway as desired. A return mechanism is also provided for returning the arm to its vertical, folded position.

  • Patent number: 4262869
Abstract: A clamp for an elongated cylindrical workpiece such as a hose or pipe, comprises two, substantially identical, clamp members each having a semi-cylindrical recess formed therein. A cylindrical elastic insert is fitted around the workpiece and then inserted into the circular recess formed when the two clamp members are fastened one to the other. In the axial direction, the elastic insert has an elevated central region which engages a similar, depressed central region in the cylindrical recess formed by two clamp members. The height of the depressed region is less than the height of the elevated region; thus, while the workpiece is totally restrained from axial motion, in the region where the workpiece enters or exits the clamp, a limited amount of bending is permitted, thus avoiding stress and possible damage to the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4262809
Abstract: The loadlock and beam of the present invention are for use with a pallet rack structure in which the beam is connected to an upright of an end frame with the loadlock. The loadlock has a right angled-shaped bolt with a shank slidably extending through an aligned hole in the upright and in an end plate of the beam and has a headed handle portion extending through a contoured slot in the beam wall adjacent the end of the beam. The contoured slot defines three separate positions and cooperates with a generally cylindrical spring metal retainer positioned on the bolt handle having diametrically opposed projecting tabs engaging the innerface of the beam wall adjacent the slot and having projections engageable with the edges of the contoured slot to position the loadlock in any one of the three preselected positions.

  • Patent number: 4261599
Abstract: A joint for connecting pipes embodying a first sleeve surrounding and bonded to the end of a first pipe and a bell surrounding and bonded to the end of a second pipe. The bell has an enlarged diameter bore terminating in an annular shoulder at its inner end with the bore being of a size to receive the first sleeve with the inner end of the first sleeve being movable to a position adjacent the shoulder. A second sleeve surrounds the first pipe adjacent the first sleeve within the bell and is adapted for rotative and axial movement relative to the first pipe. Cams within the bell cooperate with cams on the second sleeve to effect axial movement of the second sleeve in response to rotative movement of the second sleeve. Sealing means between the shoulder and the inner end of the first sleeve effects a seal therebetween upon axial movement of the first sleeve to a position with its inner end adjacent the shoulder.

  • Patent number: 4261082
Abstract: A slide fastener is provided with flanges projecting forwardly of the front or diverging end portion of a slider body to form a V-shape. The flanges define a pair of diagonal guide faces for guiding foreign matter inwardly toward the central bridge portion of the slider body. Fastener element-receiving openings are formed by the edges of the flanges which also form the guide faces. If foreign matter, such as waste thread, is lodged between teeth of the fastener elements, it is guided along the slider guide faces from the outer edge of the slider to the central bridge thus removing the foreign matter. As a result, jamming of the slider is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4260181
Abstract: A pipe coupling useful in plumbing systems formed of unthreaded pipes for repairing damaged portions of said systems, particularly those portions occurring immediately adjacent emplaced couplings, such as an L or T coupling. A coupling in accordance with the invention is comprised of a pair of substantially semi-cylindrical pipe sections having longitudinal edges formed so as to mate with one another to hold the sections together. The sections are sized so a first end has an internal diameter substantially equal to the external diameter of the emplaced pipe so as to fit closely therearound, whereby an adhesive applied therebetween forms a water-tight seal. A second end of the sections is enlarged so as to fit around and engage and thereby be adapted to form a water-tight seal with the external diameter of the emplaced coupling.

  • Patent number: 4258836
Abstract: A spring operated clutch in which the clutching members are urged into engagement by spring sets and drawn out of engagement by an electromagnetic coil acting on an armature member, to provide a fail safe design for automotive fan drive applications. The clutch incorporates a wear compensation arrangement which allows for wearing of the clutching surfaces while maintaining a constant air gap between the armature and the inner body. The arrangement includes a threaded connection between an outer body comprising one of the clutching members and the armature, with the outer body axially advanced on the armature after a wearing of the surfaces reduces the torque output of the clutch, the axial advance being created by an engagement of the armature with a stop surface on the output clutching member.

  • Patent number: 4257149
Abstract: A band clamp device of the invention employs a U-shaped housing for the drive worm screw, usually formed by progressive stamping from sheet metal. The separate arms of the U embrace the band edges and the respective separate arm ends extend beneath the band. The housing can have a single ear only on one of the said separate arm ends extending through a respective cooperating slot in the band to connect the housing to the band. Usually the housing will have a single ear at each end, and the single ear adjacent the screw head end is provided on the said separate downside arm end, which is the arm end that receives the maximum force tending to spread the housing arms apart as the band is tightened about an object. It is found that such a structure is able to resist the forces tending to spread the housing arms and to separate the housing from the band, and it permits a wider ear to be used, or alternatively a narrower band for the same width ear.
