  • Patent number: 4278175
Abstract: Disclosed is a portable glass carrying rack which may be easily and quickly attached to a frame on a vehicle, such as a lumber rack or a pickup truck. A plurality of hooks on one end of a plurality of pipes are used to removably attach the rack to the frame. Boards interconnect the pipes and support one face of the glass to be carried. Another board attached to the end of the pipes opposite the hooks has a groove for supporting one edge of the glass. Brackets slidably attached to each of the pipes bias the lower portion of the pipes away from the truck and bias the pipes at a small angle with respect to the vertical in order to help absorb shocks caused by potholes and the like.

  • Patent number: 4275489
Abstract: The invention is a tube clamp which is used to connect a first pipe to another pipe. The invention can be used, for example, to add a pipe extension to the exhaust pipe used on a car. The tube clamp is made from a plate having a first and second flat portion, each having a hole wherein said holes are equal. The holes are connected by a slot and the plate has first and second flanges surrounding and remote from the hole in the first and second portions of the plate. The plate is transversely bent between the first and second flat portion to a degree to form a connector passage, the plate being bent so that the first and second flat portions are in contact with each other and said holes are substantially coaxial with the first and second flanges directed away from each other. Connector means selected from the group of rivets or welds connects the first and second flat portions. A connector means going through a connector passage connects the pipe flange.

  • Patent number: 4275665
Abstract: A complete container includes a container frame, plus one or more modular insert structures which are removably attached to the frame to serve either as shelves, or as wall sections, as may be selected in a particular instance. The container frame includes a vertical rear wall and a pair of vertical side walls which are perpendicular to the rear wall. Each modular insert is of rectangular configuration and of such a length as to fit between the side walls of the container frame. The modular insert may be placed in a vertical plane between the front edges of the side walls in which case it serves as a wall section; or it may be placed in a horizontal plane between the side walls, in which event it acts as a shelf. Each modular insert is removably attached at its ends to the respective side walls. The attachment means are arranged in such a way as to be conveniently operated by hand, whenever the modular structure is to be inserted between the side walls or removed from them.

  • Patent number: 4275467
Abstract: A fluid tight sliding clasp open ended or separable continuous fastener has two parts each comprising a row of fastening elements secured to a strip of impervious flexible material and a slider operable to close at least one end of the fastener, the elements of the two rows creating a seal against fluid pressure acting transversely of the fastener. Each part has adjacent the end to be closed additional sealing means on that face of the respective strip which, in use, forms the inside face, the additional sealing means of each part being preshaped so that when said one end of the fastener is closed they lie in edge to edge contact and are under compression whereby a fluid tight seal is obtained therebetween for resisting, in use, fluid pressure acting longitudinally of the fastener at said one end of the fastener. The fastener is particularly designed for protective suits.

  • Patent number: 4272997
Abstract: A drive mechanism for converting rotary to linear movement. A portion of a drive cable is wrapped around a drive shaft. Rotation of the shaft causes the wrapped cable portion to take up a perpendicularly extending cable portion on one end, and feed out a perpendicularly extending cable portion on the other end. As it does so, the wrapped cable portion moves axially along the drive shaft. The diameter of the drive shaft and its site of rotation determine the speed of take-up, and feed out. Axial movement of the wound portion on the drive shaft is determined either by the pitch of the threads in a threaded section on the drive shaft, or the movement of control means on an externally threaded control shaft.

  • Patent number: 4271690
Abstract: An antitheft device for two-wheeled vehicles includes a U-shaped fork whose central portion is articulated on the vehicle. The two branches pivot about an axis defined by the central portion in planes substantially parallel to the longitudinal plane of symmetry of the vehicle. In a first position, ends of the branches are located near respective sides of a wheel of the vehicle. In a second position the ends are located on sides of a support member. In a third position the ends of the branches are located to the rear of the vehicle. In each of the positions, a locking member, preferably in the form of a bar removably connects the two ends. The locking member includes a key operated lock whose bolt cooperates with an orifice or bore near one end of the U-shaped fork, the orifice or bore acting as a keeper for the bolt.
