  • Patent number: 4195738
Abstract: An improved device for securing stacks of large glass sheets for over-the-road movement is disclosed. The device includes a main truck trailer frame providing a floor and generally vertical central support for one or more large sheets in generally vertical position. A fixed guide bar extends the length of the frame behind the central support and laterally extending rails are removably secured to the guide bar adjacent the opposed vertical edges of the sheet. A longitudinal rail is adjustably secured to the outer ends of the lateral rails to extend across the outer face of the sheets and means are provided to draw both the lateral and longitudinal rails against the glass sheets to hold it securely against movement. An especially designed bracket is used to secure the lateral rails to the fixed guide bar and longitudinal rail to also provide for vertical adjustment of the height of the lateral and longitudinal rails to accommodate various sized glass sheets.

  • Patent number: 4194714
Abstract: A hanger for womens purses, handbags, shopping bags, or other articles, is provided which consists of a pair of elongated hinged support arms with a rubber semi-cylindrical bail mounted at the distal end of one of the arms, and with some means at the distal end of the other arm from which a purse, or other article may be suspended. The hanger is constructed to extend over the edge of a flat or curved surface, such as a table, chair arm, or the like, with the rubber bail engaging the surface in a non-slip relationship and with the article being suspended by the hanger over the edge of the table top, arm, or the like. The hanger is foldable to a compact configuration when not in use, and when so folded, it is constructed so that it may be used as a police whistle to summon help in cases of emergency.

  • Patent number: 4191295
Abstract: A universal self-aligning rack for carrying and holding substrates of different sizes and shapes during the processing of the substrates. The rack includes first and second spaced substrate supports which are pivotal about parallel axes. Each support includes a pair of spaced elongated elements parallel to the axes, formed with tapered circumferential grooves oriented perpendicularly to the axes. The substrates to be supported are arranged parallel to one another in planes perpendicular to the axes and are supported at their edges in the grooves in respective elongated elements, which elements pivot to appropriate supporting positions in response to the placement of the substrates in the rack.

  • Patent number: 4191110
Abstract: A shelf construction includes a pair of vertically extending end supports mounted in spaced parallel relationship to a rear support surface and including a plurality of vertically spaced horizontally extending support rods extending between the end supports. Mounted to the support rods is a rod receiving integral shelf and bracket including a forwardly facing socket with a lower leg extending downwardly from the socket, an upper leg extending rearwardly from the socket, and a middle leg comprising the rear portion of the socket and extending vertically between the upper and lower legs. Both lower and upper legs extend rearwardly against a rear support surface to which the end supports are secured a distance such that the upper and lower legs force the socket into lockable engagement with the support rod. Integrally formed with the upper leg is a horizontally extending tray for holding objects on the integral shelf and bracket so formed.

  • Patent number: 4190166
Abstract: A plurality of platforms mounted for limited longitudinal movement on a base member. Each platform has pairs of mounting socket members to receive tips of ski poles therein, the mounting members being arranged in two transverse rows, with alternate pairs of mounting members being at an upper level, and intermediate pairs of mounting members being at a lower level. The mounting sockets are placed sufficiently close to one another so that the baskets at the tip ends of adjacent ski poles overlap one another. In spite of this overlap, any set of ski poles can be removed from the mounting device without interference from the overlapping baskets of adjacent ski poles, because of a staggered relationship of the upper and lower pairs of mounting members between adjacent rows.

  • Patent number: 4190192
Abstract: A mailbox of the type that is located outdoors and is exposed to all weather conditions has an access aperture with a door adapted to selectively open the aperture for removal of mail in the mailbox. A lock mounting arrangement is provided to permit the mailbox to be locked to prevent unauthorized removal of the mail. In addition, a mail slot sufficiently large to permit the insertion of mail but small enough to prevent access for removal of the mail is provided. A pivoted flap covers the mail slot. Appropriate shielding means, such as the top and sides of a specially shaped mailbox, protect the door, the mail slot and the lock mounting from inclement weather conditions.

  • Patent number: 4190284
Abstract: A vehicle seat, especially for airplanes and omnibusses, having an arm rest formed as a box beam support with improved means for mounting a passenger control unit is disclosed. The control device, shiftable between use and non-use positions, is rotatably mounted to the front end of the arm rest between a pair of plastic guide strips affixed to the confronting side walls of the arm rest by means of resiliently biased pins on the control device rotatably engaging in aligned bores in the guide strips and side walls. The guide strips are formed with a straight portion and a curved portion having chamfered edges. An open-ended cross groove is provided on the curved portion for engaging a resiliently biased detent pin on the control device in its use position.

  • Patent number: 4188891
Abstract: Disclosed is a support structure for holding house plants or the like in position to receive optimal sunlight at a window. The structure comprises a pair of elongate support members which rest on the window sill and extend upwardly and inwardly into the room. C-hooks attached to the base of the support members pass over the nosing of the window trim and prevent slippage; cables extend between eyes screwed into the window track and the top of the support members. The support members hold one or more shelves, each of which comprise a plurality of parallel rails extending horizontally between rail holding brackets. The brackets define holes dimensioned to interfit with the support members and to slide therealong. When a load is placed on the rails, vertical slippage of the shelves is prevented by a gripping action exerted by the rail holding brackets on the support members.

  • Patent number: 4187978
Abstract: Apparatus for protecting cantilevered mailboxes from damage caused by collision with passing vehicles, maintenance equipment and other objects thrown by the plows against the boxes while clearing the roadways. More specifically, the apparatus includes a vertically disposed column anchored in the ground and a laterally projecting arm hingedly secured to the upper portion of the column for swingably supporting the mailbox. A shear pin normally locks the hinge and associated arm and box against rotation. The pin is designed to shear in response to a predetermined torsional stress upon the hinge which stress is produced by the impact of a vehicle or other object striking the box or arm thereby permitting the box and arm to swing to non-obstructing position as the object passes.
