Abstract: This invention, therefore, relates to the field of polyurethane coatings for use in automobile basecoat/clearcoat systems. In particular, this invention relates to water-dispersible polyurethane resins having polyether sidechains which may be utilized in basecoat compositions as principal resins or grind resins. These polyurethane resins may be laterally stabilized or terminally stabilized. The terminally stabilized resins of this invention are preferably employed as principal resins in basecoat compositions.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating molten thermoplastic material foam by separately pressurizing the molten thermoplastic material and a gas and by delivering that material and gas sequentially to a premixing chamber, through a sintered metal insert and a post mixing chamber, to a discharge orifice of a spray nozzle. The apparatus for practicing this method comprises a nozzle assembly, including a nozzle adaptor and a nozzle, the adaptor of which has flow passages for delivering the pressurized gas and molten material to a premixing cavity and subsequently to and through a sintered metal insert contained within the nozzle.
Abstract: The invention relates to essentially linear polyurethane elastomers, having improved properties, made from polyester or polyether diols, diisocyanates and chain extenders, the latter having liquid-crystalline properties; and also films and, in particular, fibres which are prepared on the basis of such liquid-crystalline polyurethane components and are shaped thermoplastically (via melting) or from solutions (by solution spinning processes). The invention furthermore relates to an appropriate process for the preparation of the polyurethane elastomers, particularly of PU elastomer fibres (Elasthan and Spandex fibres).

Abstract: This invention, therefore, relates to the field of polyurethane coatings for use in automobile basecoat/clearcoat systems. In particular, this invention relates to the discovery that incorporating a long-chain carboxylic acid of at least 50% by weight of the carboxylic acid component used to make polyester resins which are further incorporated into polyurethane resins provides basecoat composition exhibiting low temperature flash characteristics. These low temperature flash characteristics are exhibited even where the basecoat is deposited at 50-90% relative humidity.
