Abstract: The portable expanding barrier, or “sutra,” for Muslim worshippers provides protection for the area immediately in front of a worshipper of the Muslim faith during prayer. The barrier comprises several embodiments, including multiple short telescoping segments, coil springs encased in a flexible sleeve, multiple segments keyed together for locking into extended position by partial rotation, hollow tubular segments connected by an elastic cord extending through the segments, and multiple rigid segments pivotally secured to one another at alternate ends of each segment. The device may be integrated with a prayer rug, and mechanisms may be provided for automatic barrier deployment. A compass may be included.

Abstract: There is provided a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) simulator enabling repeated defibrillation training to allow a user to practice CPR and use of a defibrillator, and the CPR simulator includes a dummy in a body shape similar to a human body shape; a first magnet installed on a upper right part of a chest of a body of the dummy; a second magnet installed on a bottom left side of the chest of the body of the dummy; a first training pad having a first metal sheet formed on one side thereof and a first electrode pad formed on the other side thereof; and a second training pad having a second metal sheet formed on one side thereof and a second electrode pad formed on the other side thereof.

Abstract: A training apparatus for training a child how to blow his or her nose includes a tapered chute having proximal and distal ends. The tapered chute defines an internal passageway connecting the proximal and distal ends. The proximal end includes a proximal opening that is sufficiently wide to fit over a child's nose. The distal end includes a distal opening that is smaller than the proximal opening. The internal passageway includes a narrow portion, adjoining the distal opening, and sized to snugly accommodate a projectile lodged therein. When air is exhaled into the proximal opening, the exhaled air passes through the internal passageway and builds pressure behind the projectile such that the projectile is forcefully ejectable from the distal opening.

Abstract: The dental position tracking system includes a toothbrush (30) which has a system (20) for determining the orientation of the toothbrush in the mouth of a user relative to the earth, based on measured stored information. Information is stored in the toothbrush concerning target ranges of expected measured toothbrush orientations for each of a plurality of dental zones (22). A processor (24) compares the measured toothbrush orientation information with the target orientation ranges, following conversion of both the target orientation information and the measured toothbrush orientation information to the same coordinate system. The processor then determines which if any of the target ranges matches, within a selected tolerance thereof, with the toothbrush orientation information. Any difference between the target range and the measured toothbrush orientation information is then used to partially adjust the target information range, in order to compensate for a change of position of the user's head.

Abstract: A medical simulant applicable to training personnel in the treatment of a traumatic injury is presented. The simulant replicates the appearance of a body part and is mechanically responsive to externally applied pressure so as to mimic the response of a vascular element when a tourniquet or the like is applied to the body part. The simulant includes a compressible body, a structure, a compressible tube, and a pair of plates. The compressible body replicates an arm, a leg, or another body region. The structure replicates an injury, either penetrating or non-penetrating, and is disposed along the compressible body. The compressible tube replicates a vascular element. The plates are separately disposed within the compressible body about the compressible tube. The plates are configured to deform the compressible tube so as to interrupt flow of a liquid simulating blood therein when a compressive force is applied onto the compressible body by a tourniquet or the like.

Abstract: An instrument for assessment and intervention in the areas of sensory, motor, language, and the educational requirements of the children at-risk, developmentally delayed, and disabled. The devise is constructed on a base board with four sides. Its front side has one in-built height adjustable chair bar with chair, and adjustable visual stimulating roof. Its back side has height adjustable parallel bars and one mirror. On right and left side it has two height and length adjustable hands in addition to that right side have height measuring scale on the wall and extended space to stand and to keep weighing machine. On the top it has space for two sided video display frame and two stands for video cameras.

Abstract: A flight simulator rests on a plurality of air cushions as a hovercraft and assumes spatial attitudes depending upon the relative heights of the air cushions. Flight controls determine the volume of air supplied to each air cushion and thereby control the pitch and roll attitudes of the flight simulator. The simulator may be connected to an external support frame and may thereby be subjected to longitudinal, lateral, and rotational movements.

Abstract: The invention relates to a training weapon system (1) intended for a recoilless antitank rifle (2), the training weapon system (1) comprising a sub-caliber barrel (3) for firing sub-caliber practice projectiles (4) provided with base plates (5), the sub-caliber barrel (3) being arranged in a shell-like body (6) in the barrel (7) of the recoilless antitank rifle (2), the front part of the sub-caliber barrel (3) being fitted in a guide part (8) for centering the barrel (3), and a rear part of the barrel (3) being fitted in a breech (9), comprising a firing channel (10) and a nozzle screw thread (11) for fitting a nozzle screw (12), which is arranged in the rear part of the shell-like body (6).

Abstract: A dining plate includes a top portion with a substantially transparent window therein. The plate also includes a bottom portion with a bottom surface having a first outside receiving groove and second inside receiving groove. The bottom portion has a generally planar shape that corresponds generally to the shape of the top portion. The bottom portion also has a top surface with a continuous inner standing rib and an outward rim. The top and bottom portions are joined together so that the inner standing rib is releaseably positioned in the inside receiving groove and the outward rim is releaseably positioned in the outside receiving groove. A substantially watertight cavity is formed between a central section of each of the top and bottom portions. The cavity is aligned with the window in the top portion.

Abstract: These teachings are applicable for use with an individual who faces problems with respect to forming new long term memories. Generally speaking, pursuant to these various embodiments, one automatically captures (101) a record of experiential content to which the individual is exposed during a given episode and then automatically associates (102) that record of experiential content with metadata that characterizes the given episode. This record of experiential content is then automatically used (103) to re-expose the individual to at least portions of the given episode to thereby encourage development of a long term recollection of at least a portion of the given episode. These teachings will accommodate a variety of experiential content modalities including both audio content and visual content.

Abstract: A skate and snowboard training aid that is to be held in the rider's hand when the rider is performing aerial maneuvers using the skateboard or snowboard. The preferred embodiment of the skate and snowboard training aid has a main mounting strap which is to be wrappable transversely about the skateboard platform. A swivel joint is connected to the main mounting strap. A length adjusting strap assembly is connected to the swivel joint. A handle-strap assembly connects to the swivel mechanism with this handle-strap assembly terminating in a cylindrical handle at its free end.

Abstract: A cognitive stimulation system for assessing, profiling, training, and improving performance of athletes and other populations is provided. A sensory semantic language is established with an athlete for relating semantic meaning of a number of sensory signals to corresponding possible actions, the sensory semantic language being essentially new to the athlete. The athlete is instructed to perform an athletic exercise involving skills and full body movement. During the exercise sensory signals are provided to the athlete to require rapid discernment by the athlete of the semantic meaning of the sensory signal to correctly choose one possible action. Whether the athlete correctly responds to the selected sensory signal during said exercise is determined. The system simulates sports scenarios during real sports actions by stimulating different perceptive-cognitive and motor mechanisms typically experienced by athletes during real competition.

Abstract: A method and device for providing a language system. The method includes displaying a home screen including a first plurality of user selectable communication keys, wherein each communication key represents a first word. In response to receiving a first indication of a user selection of a first key, it is determined whether the first key is linked to a secondary screen. If the first key is not linked to a secondary screen, an audible signal representing the first word is output. Otherwise, a secondary screen is displayed including a second plurality of communication keys that are related to the first word and a communication key that represents the first word. The device includes appropriate hardware for performing the method. In both the method and device, the language system is configured to output an audible output of a user selected word after no more than two user selections.

Abstract: A machine has a platform for a standing patient to perform foot exercises specified by a set of selectors on the machine and pre-selected according to a therapy program. Different types of monitor devices viewable by the patient and an attendant, direct the patient to proceed with selected exercises. Light sources associated with the platform to illuminate portions of it, and other slight sources directed to sensors above the platform, are activated in concert, according to the directions addressed to the patient.

Abstract: A method for providing name pronunciation guides includes storing a plurality of audio files in a database, each audio file representing a particular pronunciation of one of a plurality of names, receiving user information from the first user via a communication network, the user information including name information of the first user, searching the database to find one or more audio files corresponding the name information, providing the first user with one or more audio files in the database corresponding to the name information via the communication network for the first user's listening and selection, creating a user profile for the first user, the user profile comprising the user information and the selected audio file, storing the user profile in the database, allowing a second user-initiated search for names, providing a second user with first user profiles indicating the first user's name and name pronunciation preferences.

Abstract: Various systems, servers, methods, media, programs, and devices for providing a notification of a live event in an application to a braille display are provided. Content information of the application is transmitted to the braille display and displayed in a first display area of the braille display. The notification is transmitted to the braille display and displayed in a second display area of the braille display in response to detecting the live event for notifying a user of the braille display of the live event. The notification is transmitted independently of the content information without interrupting transmission of the content information.

Abstract: Simulation equipment can be integrated into courseware presented to a student using technology which, based on the native output of a system running the courseware, can generate control signals for the simulation equipment. Such signals could then be sent to the simulation equipment without requiring the designer of the courseware to create low level programming code to communicate directly with the simulation equipment itself.

Abstract: A method of recording the motion of a physical object moved under human control is described that allows repeated replay of the exact motion using a robot to cause the motion of the object to occur in such a way as to allow a human student to interact with the object and experience the fundamental movements required to reproduce the motion consistently, thereby enhancing motor learning.
