  • Patent number: 9457204
Abstract: This invention provides an effervescent solid form that dissolves in cold water quickly enough to not disappoint consumers yet not so quickly that the visual interest generated during the effervescent reaction is lost. This performance is achieved by forming effervescent particles that are dense enough to retard dissolution and small enough to not take too long to dissolve. The aim of this invention is to provide a beverage in solid effervescent form that takes between about 30 and about 120 seconds to dissolve in warm water. The granules may carry functional additives such as flavors, vitamins, minerals, sweeteners, colors and drugs. The granules may also be compounded of materials intended to provide relief from skin or topical discomfort, as in the form of a wash or bath additive. The granules may also be formulated to provide cleaning agents, such as ceramic cleaners and denture cleaners.

  • Patent number: 9345253
Abstract: There are provided a metal soap which is useful as a food additive to be added to various foods for the purposes of improving a fluidity, an anti-bridging property, a low moisture absorption property and feel upon eating of foods, and has a less adverse influence on the foods, as well as a process for producing the metal soap. The metal soap for a food additive is constituted of a fatty acid calcium salt or a fatty acid magnesium salt having 6 to 24 carbon atoms which is obtained by a double decomposition method, and a water dispersion containing the metal soap in an amount of 2% by mass exhibits a pH of not less than 6 but less than 7. The process for producing the metal soap for a food additive includes the steps of reacting 1 mol of a fatty acid having 6 to 24 carbon atoms with not less than 0.9 mol but less than 1 mol of a monovalent basic compound to obtain a fatty acid basic compound salt; and reacting the fatty acid basic compound salt with a calcium salt or a magnesium salt in an aqueous medium.

  • Patent number: 9301927
Abstract: The present invention provides single sheet and compound para-xylene films for therapeutic uses. For example, the present invention provides single sheet para-xylene films useful as tissue separators and/or adhesion barriers in a subject, where the top and/or bottom surfaces of such films have a water contact angle between 75 and 95 degrees (e.g., to prevent adhesion formation). The present invention also provides compound films composed of at least two para-xylene polymer films with a therapeutic molecule layer in between. Such compound films, when used in vivo (e.g., as a tissue separator and to treat inflammation or atrial fibrillation) allow either therapeutic molecule elution through one of the para-xylene layers, or therapeutic molecule release when the compound film is pierced, such as when it is sutured in place.
