  • Patent number: 4782721
Abstract: A gear assembly for selectively shifting the driving torque in an engine driven vehicle to either a 2 or 4-wheel high mode while in motion, or from a neutral position to a 4-wheel low mode and return. The assembly has five main gears including an input set of two and an output set of three constant mesh gears rotatably mounted in fixed positions and a synchronizer in between the two sets in selective driving association with the output gear set. Selective transfer of torque from the input drive to the assembly to either or both the front and rear output shafts is effected by operation of a single shift rod which in turn moves a single fork both for activation of the synchronizer and for shifting the assembly into its 2 and 4-wheel high, neutral and 4-wheel low drive positions through interconnecting gear clutch collars. In one embodiment a pair of coaxial collars are incorporated in the gear assembly.

  • Patent number: 4779472
Abstract: A device for interconverting rectilinear and rotary motion is designed so as to reduce side thrust exerted on a frame by a slide as the slide reciprocates linearly relative to the frame and such rectilinear motion is converted into the rotary motion of a crank or vice versa. More particularly, an elongated opening, which receives a crankpin of the crank such that the crankpin moves back and forth along the elongated opening, is provided in a swing mounted for oscillatory movement relative to the slide. At least one arm is pivotally attached to the frame and to the swing so as to effect the oscillatory motion of the swing relative to the slide as the slide reciprocates relative to the frame. As the slide reciprocates relative to the frame, the orientation of the elongated opening relative to the slide is constantly varied.

  • Patent number: 4779474
Abstract: A power unit of the type varying its length comprises three members movable in relation to each other. The power unit is used for transferring load from a first load carrier to a second one. In order to make this transfer possible in a satisfying manner, the power unit has to be constructed so that it can be extended to at least two times its length in the contracted state. For this reason it is a necessity that transmissions comprising wheels (13) and a loop (15) laid around these are so arranged, that when the third member (3) is displaced with respect to the first member (1) fixed in the room, at the same time the second member (2) is displaced in the same direction and the same distance with respect to the third member (3). In order to solve this problem in an appropriate manner the invention proposes to design the first member (1) with at least partly the character of a housing for the power unit, with an elongated shape in cross section.

  • Patent number: 4770056
Abstract: A window-lifter drive unit for a cable-window lifter which includes a housing in which a worm gear as well as a cable drum taken along by the worm gear are provided between two mutually opposite wall parts. A bearing bolt 40 is supported with one end thereof in one of the two wall parts and at the other end thereof in the other wall part by way of a bearing bushing. The cable drum is retained at the outer circumference of the bearing bushing; a circumferential collar of the bearing bushing forms a securing member against pulling off the cable drum from the bearing bushing. Combined with a simple construction and low manufacturing costs, a partial unit including the worm gear as well as the bearing bolt can be separated without difficulty from a partial unit including the cable drum as well as the bearing bushing which facilitates assembly and repair work.

  • Patent number: 4770054
Abstract: Backlash preventing apparatus for a transmission for a vehicle having an outer race fixed to a body, an inner face fixed to a driving shaft, and a bail bearing disposed therebetween. A roller clutch is provided having a plurality of inclined grooves mounted between the outer race and the inner race. A backlash preventing roller is located in the inclined grooves. A first support spring and a support pin are inserted within an inclined spring hole formed adjacent to a corner of the inclined groove. A small roller is inserted into a gap formed between the roller clutch and the inner race, and a second support spring and pin are mounted between the roller clutch and inner race. The backlash preventing apparatus enables the inner race to rotate in a first direction and provides limited backlash rotation in a reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 4760907
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for limiting the relative rotation between coaxial shafts, including a helical thread about one of the shafts, a nut having a follower received in the helical thread, a spline connection between the nut and other shaft, and means for limiting axial motion of the nut when the shafts are at a selected limit of relative rotation. The follower has a large finger supporting a small finger, and the one shaft has a middle section radially spaced farther from the other shaft than the end sections. The helical thread receives only the small finger along the shaft middle section, and receives the large finger in the shaft end sections when the shafts reach the selected limit of relative rotation. The helical thread about the shaft end sections has a larger lead angle than the thread about the middle section.

  • Patent number: 4747353
Abstract: A straight line motion mechanism is formed from a pair of parallelogram linkage mechanisms in combination with motion control means interconnecting the linkage mechanisms to provide for uniform angular displacement thereof. The mechanism is particularly adapted for use in supporting an object, such as a table top, for vertically directed stepwise movement or one step shifting between lower and upper reference positions corresponding to table top heights convenient for use alternatively by a person in seated and standing positions. • Patent number: 4745821
Abstract: A system for adjusting the speed ratio of nutational traction drive transmissions in which speed ratio is dependent on the spacing of oppositely convergent cone members rotatably supported on a nutatable axis. The system includes a thread shaft having oppositely pitched threads engaged by carrier nuts in turn fixed to the cone members. Relative rotation of the cone members and the thread shaft is effected by alternately engagable clutch bodies at opposite ends of the thread shaft, the clutch bodies being controlled for relative and opposite rotational direction with respect to the cone members by gear sets linking the cone members and its support.

  • Patent number: 4739668
Abstract: A power-transmitting and torque-converting positive drive system provides an infinitely variable (IV) ratio of angular speed adjustments between a power input shaft and a power output shaft. The power is transmitted by means of a continuous chain of balls pushing one another forward. These balls interact with the input shaft and the output shaft by means of the cooperation of two groups of balls simultaneously constrained between sets of associated short straight grooves and corresponding helical grooves. One group of balls is located between the input shaft and a sleeve, whereas the other group of balls is located between the output shaft and that sleeve. The balls are guided and restrained in a plurality of open-loop channels that enable each ball to progressively shift from one group to another, each ball acting as the individual tooth of a gear.
