  • Patent number: 4881419
Abstract: A fluid-powered rotary actuated support for a platform, having a body with a vertical axial orientation during use. A drive member has a drive shaft extending coaxially within the body and a flange attached to an end portion of the shaft toward an upper body end. The shaft and flange are formed as an integral unit free of connection joints therebetween. The flange projects radially outward from the shaft beyond an inner body surface and is rotatable relative to the body through a horizontal plane. A first ball race is formed in the flange and a second ball race is formed in the body with balls disposed therebetween. Linear-to-rotary transmission means disposed within the body are operable for providing rotational movement between the drive member and body. The body utilizes a stationary seal to facilitate seal placement and reduce the overall length of the body.

  • Patent number: 4881421
Abstract: A mechanical drive, especially a stepping drive which can be driven by a drive shaft (14) for the conversion of a rotary drive movement to an output rotary movement which follows a given law of movement and can be taken from an output shaft (16), is provided with a spring-biased safety coupling (22; 26; 28) which disengages upon overload. The spring (30) biasing the safety coupling is supported on a biasing element which is mounted in the drive casing (12) for movement by a given amount in the direction of an increase or reduction of the spring bias, and which is part of the output of a cam drive whose cam is coupled co-rotationally with the drive shaft or output shaft (14 and 16, respectively).

  • Patent number: 4879920
Abstract: The meshing gear teeth comprise cylindrical profile teeth on a gear or rack and circular arc profile teeth on the other gear or pinion. Each cylindrical profile tooth is preferably mounted for free rotation about the cylindrical axis of the tooth. Driving engagement of the gears rotates the contacting cylindrical teeth, thereby providing rolling contact between the meshing gear teeth. At any instant, at least two cylindrical teeth on one gear are in engagement with one tooth on the other gear. With the motion of the meshing gears, the cylindrical profile teeth rotate into and out of the roots of the other gear without loss of rolling contact from entrance to exit. The constant contact and multi tooth engagement prevents backlash relative movement between the gears.

  • Patent number: 4879921
Abstract: Herein disclosed is a transaxle casing to be used with a transverse type automatic transmission. An arcuate partition extending from the top to the bottom of a transmission gear case is disposed between the radially outermost rotary member of the transmission gear seat and a cover wall and in front of the transmission gear set with respect to the running direction of a vehicle. An oil sump is disposed below the transmission gear set. Thus, the lubricating oil splashed away the rotary member is guided into an oil return passage extending between the partition and the cover wall and opening into the oil sump so that it may be prevented from being caught again by the transmission gear set and heated to a high temperature.

  • Patent number: 4878391
Abstract: A mechanism particularly well suited for converting bidirectional rotation, as of a reversible electric motor or a hand crank, into the linear up and down motion of a windowpane relative to the frame of a passenger car door. Included is an elongate guide rail gently curved longitudinally to conform to the vertical curvature of the vehicular door and providing a vertical guideway on its convex side. A wire rope or cable is looped about a pair of terminal guide pulleys or nonrotatable guides on the opposite ends of the guide rail. One of the two stretches of the cable is coupled to a windowpane carriage which is coupled to the windowpane for joint up and down movement therewith along the guideway. A drive mechanism including a drive reel is mounted to the guide rail and coupled to the other stretch of the cable for bidirectionally driving the windowpane carriage along the guideway. The drive mechanism is compactly disposed on the concave side of the guide rail for minimal space requirement.

  • Patent number: 4876906
Abstract: A non-jamming electro-mechanical hydrostatic actuator system includes one embodiment in which a ballscrew assembly has a rotatable nut and an axially movable ballscrew. A motor rotates the nut to axially move the ballscrew. An actuator is operatively connected to a load to be actuated. A hydraulic system is coupled between the ballscrew and the actuator and includes a closed hydraulic circuit for statically trapping fluid in the circuit to effect movement of the actuator in response to movement of the ballscrew. The closed circuit is selectively opened to allow fluid flow in the circuit in the event of failure or jamming of the ballscrew assembly to allow reaction movement of the actuator in response to load forces. In another embodiment a rotary vaned assembly includes a cylinder housing a rotary vane, with the motor rotating the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4867000
Abstract: A linear motion power cylinder utilizing a rotor with radially movable impeller vanes rotatably mounted within a cylinder having an eccentric bore, the chamber created between the rotor and cylinder being accessible by two ports, with one port located adjacent to each end of the cylinder. Fluid pressure within the chamber imparts a force on the impeller vanes which in turn drives the rotor. The rotation of the rotor is transferred through a system of planetary gears to a power screw which passes through the center of the rotor. This rotary motion is translated into linear motion by a threaded cylinder rod threadedly engaged with the power screw. The cylinder rod may be moved reciprocally in and out of the linear motion power cylinder increments by reversing the direction of the fluid flow into the cylinder chamber.

  • Patent number: 4856356
Abstract: The nut structure (3) of a screw jack has ball bearing units (4, 5, 6) the middle one (5) of which engages from one side and the two outer ball bearing units (4, 6) engage from the opposite side on the same plane of action into the thread (2). Thus the nut structure (3) is supported against the screw shaft (1) without tilting moments so that no neck bearing is needed. As a result the screw jack works with extremely little friction and with extremely little tendency to vibrate.

  • Patent number: 4856357
Abstract: A power-transmitting and torque-converting mechanical drive system provides an infinitely variable (IV) ratio of angular speed adjustments between a first shaft and a second shaft. Power is transmitted by means of a plurality of independent chains of balls pushing one another forward. These balls interact with a first body of revolution mounted on the first shaft and a second body of revolution mounted on the second shaft by means of cooperating groups of balls simultaneously constrained between sets of cooperating straight grooves and corresponding helically-laid grooves located on facing surfaces of the bodies. One group of balls is located between the first body and a plurality of segment structures, whereas the other group of balls is located between the second body and the segment structures equipped with short straight grooves.

  • Patent number: 4850239
Abstract: This integrated wheel hub and upper steering shaft assembly foreshortens the steeing column and steering wheel assembly. The connection of the steering wheel to the upper steering shaft between the upper and lower bearings of the bearing housing allows the angularly adjustable head to be tilted with the wheel hub closer to the point of the pivot. This provides for foreshortened steering column length while retaining effective energy absorbing stroke for use in a side range of vehicle applications including those with short fore/aft space for column installation.
