    Abstract: A dielectric resonator includes a resonator body having a groove formed in its upper surface adjacent to an outer periphery of a through hole formed through the body. An electrically-conductive film on the inner surface of the groove is electrically connected to an electrically-conductive film formed on the inner peripheral surface of the through hole, via an electrically-conductive film formed on a portion of the upper surface of the body lying between the groove and the through hole. The groove having the electrically-conductive film formed on its inner surface enables the length of the body to be reduced and the overall resonator to have a reduced size.

    Abstract: A magnetron cathode structure, including one or separate ceramic members having two openings therethrough with an electrical lead passing through each opening. A metallized section is formed on the interior surface of each opening, and another metallized section is formed on the exterior surface of each ceramic member to cause the respective metallized sections to form electrodes of first and second condensers. A resilient metal buffer member seals each electrical lead to the metallized section of that lead's respective opening. The resilient metal buffer members absorb thermal stress resulting from a difference in the coefficients of thermal expansion of the respective metallized section and the associated ceramic member. A metal outer frame member is sealed to the other metallized sections.

The bias current through a PIN diode connected across the coupling window is controlled by varactor tune voltage to effectively decrease the window area with increasing filter frequency.

    Abstract: A band rejection filter for a microwave wave-guide formed of a wave-guide (11) and at least one short-circuited coaxial line. An inner conductor (17) and an outer conductor (19) are coaxial with the inner conductor (17) being a conducting rod extending a screw (12) and the outer conductor being at least in part a tapped hole (19) formed in the wall of the wave-guide (11). The screw (12) forms an adjustable short-circuit. The short-circuited coaxial line has a length slightly less than an odd multiple of a quarter wavelength corresponding to the central frequency of the frequency band to be rejected, so as to form an inductive susceptance. The end of the inner conductor (17) projects slightly into the wave-guide (11) to form a capacitive susceptance which is connected to the end of the coaxial line so as to form a resonator tuned to the central frequency of the band to be rejected.

The uncoated side surface has an electrode pattern which allows coupling to the filter and between resonators of the filter. The elevation of the electrodes on the side surface between the top and bottom determines whether the coupling is capacitive, mixed inductive and capacitive, or inductive.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a communication line filter for use in series with communication lines. The communication line filter provides for surge protection from voltage spikes and provides frequency filtering to remove selected interference signals from other radiating sources. The communication line filter comprises: two signal conductors linked together by a fuse; a common signal ground; and two shunts for shunting a surge current between the signal conductors and the common signal ground. The shunts provide protection from short duration voltage spikes while the fuse provides protection from longer duration overvoltages. The communication line filter functions effectively, independent of the direction of current flow along the communication line with respect the line filter. The two shunts and the fuse are selected to provide the required capacitance and impedance respectively, to form a suitable frequency notch filter.

    Abstract: A birdcage knee coil operated in quadrature in an NMR imaging system includes a pair of like butterfly coils each formed from a strip transmission line formed on a common dielectric substrate. The pair inputs the quadrature signals created by the birdcage coil to a combiner output circuit. Each butterfly coil of the pair comprises a pair of wings of like area connected by a common transmission line so that currents induced by a magnetic field on the ground conductors of one wing oppose and cancel the currents induced by that field on the ground conductors of the other wing. The transmission line forming each butterfly coil has opposing ground conductors of the same transverse width with a center conductor equally spaced between the ground conductors and a transverse width of about one tenth that of the ground conductors. The pair of coils are arranged symmetrically relative to the birdcage coil to provide an electrically balanced system.
