  • Patent number: 5248104
Abstract: A wire-unwinding device in which wire can be unwound from a very large wire drum such that the direction of curvature of the wire is maintained and alternating bendings of the wire are avoided. The wire is guided over a stationary first guide pulley, a second guide pulley, which is changeable in position in order to apply an initial tensioning force, and over a further stationary third guide pulley.

  • Patent number: 5248109
Abstract: The invention relates to a positioning apparatus for coils, more particularly of metal strip, to be fitted on to a reeling drum. To determine on all sides the internal diameter of the coil 1 and its vertical and lateral position in relation to the reeling drum 2, the internal contour of the coil 1 is determined by a measuring head 13 which measures 360.degree. and, in dependence on the measured values to be obtained, by comparison with the corresponding measured values for the reeling drum 2 adjusting members are acted upon for the vertical adjustment of a lifting carriage 3 for the coil 1 and/or the lateral offsetting and/or the relative rotation between the coil 1 and the reeling drum 2.

  • Patent number: 5246185
Abstract: A retainer for use with a bobbin having filamentary material wound thereon to prevent unwanted unwinding of the material. The retainer is formed from a strip of elastic material with one end folded back upon an intermediate portion to form a minor loop, and the other end passed around and superposed with the first end to form a major loop. The three superposed layers in the areas of the intermediate portion and immediately adjacent the two ends are permanently secured and an opening therethrough defined by a grommet. The major loop is stretched to pass over the peripheral edge of the bobbin and engage the outer layer of filamentary material with the free end of the latter passing through the opening in the retainer.

  • Patent number: 5246178
Abstract: An apparatus and method for anchoring thread to the surface of a bobbin, the apparatus including a movable arm for grasping the bobbin and a lever attached to the movable arm, the lever having two members for engaging the surface of the bobbin with one of the members being a roller. The movable arm places the bobbin in a mandrel, and a second movable arm moves the thread between the roller and the surface of the bobbin. The roller is then brought into contact with the surface of the bobbin and the mandrel is rotated to thereby wind the thread onto the bobbin. The second movable arm includes a cutting blade for cutting the thread, and a hook and movable lever for moving the thread into position.

  • Patent number: 5246177
Abstract: A path for guiding bobbin holders (7, 8) is formed in a closed loop shape on a machine frame (1), inner gear members (65, 66) are spaced in an axial direction of the bobbin holders (7, 8) and disposed along the bobbin holders guiding path. Two bobbin holders (7, 8) are supported on sliders (13, 14), respectively, and gear wheels (67a, 67b, 68a, 68b, 69a, 69b, 70a, 70b) disposed at the support portions of the bobbin holders (7, 8) engage with the inner gear members (65, 66). Two endless chains (82, 83) are spaced in an axial direction of the bobbin holders (7, 8) and disposed along the bobbin holders guiding path. The chains (82, 83) are connected to the bobbin holders (7, 8), respectively, whereby the bobbin holders (7,8) can be independently moved along the bobbin holders guiding path formed to locate a winding position, a doffing position, an empty bobbin donning position, a stand by position and a bobbin changing position.

  • Patent number: 5244160
Abstract: A bobbin transportation arrangement, in combination with one or more yarn processing machines, includes a track on which a plurality of bobbin carriers run to transport empty tubes from a store to the machine and wound packages from the machine to another store. The track is elevated in regions remote from the machine, but has inclined sections adjacent each end of the machine connecting with a lower track extending adjacent a side of the machine, whereby bobbin receiving pegs on a bobbin carrier are at the same height as the wound packages on the machine. A control device on the machine determines that packages have been wound on a side of the machine and initiates successive despatch of the required number of bobbin carriers to that machine side, where a transfer device locates the bobbin carriers successively adjacent the yarn processing positions, transfers wound packages from the package winding cradles to the bobbin carriers and replaces them with empty tubes.

  • Patent number: 5244164
Abstract: The yarn brake (1) having electromagnets (12, 12') and a brake lamella (2) has, on that side thereof that is remote from the yarn (3), a segmented layer (5) of soft ferromagnetic material. The layer (5) is effective to strengthen the magnetic attraction. Substantially platelike segments (55, 56) of the layer (5) are disposed in accordance with the operating ranges of the discrete electromagnets (12, 12') and have connections (60, 560) to one another and/or to the brake lamella (2). The connections (60) between the segments (55) are flexible. Because of the segmentation of the attraction-increasing segmented layer (5), the flexibility of the brake lamella (2) remains substantially unimpaired. The yarn brake can be released by electromagnets (12') disposed on one side of the segmented layer (5). By means of a blower (28) having nozzles (29) distributed over the length of the brake gap, fly can be removed from the braking surfaces when the yarn brake (1 ) is released periodically.

  • Patent number: 5238197
Abstract: The winding heads of a bobbin-winding machine are provided with automatic bobbin exchange capability through the use of an indexable magazine which carries multiple interchangeable spindle units. The spindle units engage bobbins and, in turn, are adapted to be engaged by a rotary drive mounted on a transfer arm. The transfer arm moves individual spindle/bobbin combinations between the magazine and the bobbin-winding position after engagement with the rotary drive. Disengagement of a spindle/bobbin combination after winding and return to the magazine permits automatic exchange with a spindle carrying an empty bobbin.

  • Patent number: 5238202
Abstract: The present invention provides a solenoid including an electrically conductive coil and a plunger located axially within the coil. The plunger is moved in an axial direction within the coil when the coil is energized. The motion of the plunger in the axial direction in the coil at a position such that, when the plunger is moved to the position by energizing the coil, the force exerted by the plunger is linear with respect to the electric power supplied to the coil. The present invention also provides yarn tensioning apparatus employing a number of yarn tensioning devices using such a solenoid. A control system, including a special device for sensing the tension exerted on the yarn, allows each of the yarn tensioning devices in the apparatus to be individually and automatically controlled. The present invention also provides a method for individually controlling the tension exerted on each yarn either manually or automatically.

  • Patent number: 5232171
Abstract: A strand end preparation apparatus includes a suction applying housing having a longitudinal suction slot and a pair of suction assemblies, each communicated with the suction applying housing. Each suction assembly includes a suction blocking device for selectively blocking the flow of suction therethrough and a strand end cutting device for selectively cutting a strand end drawn into the suction assembly. In one variation of the strand end preparation apparatus, suction is applied simultaneously through both suction assemblies to draw a strand end off a yarn package through the suction slot and into a respective one of the suction assemblies. The drawn in strand end is then re-wound on the package of textile strand material at a preferred disposition thereon. The strand end preparation apparatus advantageously provides sufficient suction along the entire axial extent of the textile strand material of the package so that a strand end can be reliably drawn off during a strand end disposing operation.

  • Patent number: 5232172
Abstract: A bobbin holder (1), particularly for a cigarette making machine, is provided with a device for rewinding the expiring end of a reel (2) back on to the reel core (6) following a splice. This provides a convenient way of removing the expired end (with the core) and avoids possible entanglement of a loose expired end in parts of the machine. The device may comprise a pin (22) carried by a rotatable support (12) for the reel (2) and axially slidable by engagement with a cam (24) into a position to intercept the expiring end following a splice, so that continued rotation of the support causes the end to be wrapped around the reel core.
