  • Patent number: 4370823
Abstract: A device for the trapping of snakes and similar animals having a sheet of netting to be placed on the ground shaped so that a plurality of areas of the netting are substantially non-horizontal to the ground. A snake attempting to traverse the sheet will pass into an interstices until its body size prevents forward motion. The scales of the snake will catch on the strands of the netting preventing the snake from retreating from the netting.

  • Patent number: 4369576
Abstract: A portable hand-held hydraulically-operated cable cutter for severing electric and communication cables has a pair of cutter jaws, one fixed and one movable. The movable jaw is driven positively in both the closing and opening directions by a piston-cylinder assembly under the control of the lineman. The piston is fixed; the cylinder is movable. The movable cutter jaw is connected pivotally to the movable cylinder. The lineman holds the tool in one hand, using a fixed grip handle, and with the other hand controls operation of the movable cutter jaw by rotating a cylindrical control handle in one direction or the other. As a safety lock, the tool has an offset trigger which must be pressed to unlock the control handle before it can be rotated. When the control handle is released, it is automatically returned to its neutral position by a torsion spring, thereby instantly stopping any motion of the cutter jaws in either the opening or closing directions.

  • Patent number: 4369605
Abstract: A high degree of openness to the bores of hollow fiber membranes in a tube sheet can be achieved by impacting the region of the tube sheet at which hollow fiber membranes terminate with a particulate abrasive having an average maximum dimension of less than about 70 percent of the minimum dimension of the bores of the hollow fiber membranes. The particulate abrasive is impacted on the tube sheet at a velocity sufficient to erode the surface of the hollow fiber membranes.

  • Patent number: 4368577
Abstract: Hand-held and hand-operated cutting tool particularly well suited for cleanly and quickly cutting plastic pipe or tubing, rubber hose, or the like. The tool has a blade rotatable in increments or steps from a retracted position in which it is enclosed within a housing to a cutoff position in which it cooperates with a stationary anvil so as to sever the article to be cut. A ratchet drive interconnects a movable handle and the blade so as to incrementally drive the blade toward its cutoff position upon manipulation of the handle. A pawl prevents opening of the blade caused by the springiness of the article being cut upon being engaged by the blade. Upon severing of the article, the blade may be readily returned to its retracted position by, for example, releasing a thumb operated locking pawl.

  • Patent number: 4367611
Abstract: A cage slot grinding machine having a work head whose work spindle is rotationally indexable by an index device and first and second wheel supports which respectively carry first and second grinding wheels for grinding, two at a time, cage slots of a cage member on the work spindle. Each time the indexing of the work spindle is carried out, the first and second wheel supports are moved by respective traverse feed devices in a direction perpendicular to the work spindle axis but in opposite senses so as to extend the first and second grinding wheels respectively into two of the cage slots. The first and second grinding wheels, after being so extended, are infed in a second direction parallel to the work spindle axis but in opposite senses through the movements of the wheel supports by respective infeed devices, during which the work spindle is pivotally oscillated by an oscillating device through a predetermined angular distance.

  • Patent number: 4366643
Abstract: An insect trap suited for attracting and killing flying insects includes a fluorescent light for emitting light of frequency for attracting such insects. A fluid reservoir, in the form of a tray, is supported in cross proximity to the light and below it for entrapping and killing the insects, as by drowning, in oil or other fluid contained in the reservoir. The closely spaced relationship between light and reservoir causes insects attracted to the light likely to contact the fluid. A cover of the trap shields the light and tray from the elements and other contamination, as by leaves, dust, etc. A mounting arrangement of universal character effectively suspends the trap from a single point, being configured to allow angular orientation and tilting of the trap to maintain the fluid level within the tray.
