Patent number: 4363196Abstract: A gage controlled grinding method for oppositely disposed commonly tapered end bores in a workpiece, maintaining a constant spacing of two identical bore gage diameters independent of part length is disclosed. A machine such as an internal grinding machine utilizes a drive plate and support shoes for locating and driving the workpiece, and a pair of gage fingers are provided at axial points proximal and distal to the drive plate. A first tapered bore in the outboard end of the workpiece is ground and gaged to a predetermined diameter at a first fixed gage distance from the curve plate. The workpiece is turned end-for-end on the drive plate, and the previously finished bore is sampled by a second gage finger located at a second fixed gage distance from the drive plate. The sampled diameter is compared with a predetermined stored value, and the sampled diameter is subtracted from the predetermined stored value to generate a difference value.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1980Date of Patent: December 14, 1982Assignee: Cincinnati Milacron-Heald Corp.Inventor: Herbert R. Patent number: 4363193Abstract: During grinding, a grinding wheel effects movements of solely vertical displacement along a path parallel to a vertical guide rod. The workpiece to be machined is held by a rotatable, but not axially displaceable, chuck secured to a workpiece head. In order that helical relative movements between the workpiece and the grinding wheel may be produced, transmission components and gearing are provided for positively converting the vertical motion of the grinding wheel into rotary motion of the workpiece. For cylindrical and surface grinding, the motion-conversion arrangement may easily be disengaged or dismantled. Thus it is possible with this universal grinding machine to carry out drill grinding, cylindrical grinding, and/or surface grinding on a workpiece which need be chucked only once.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1980Date of Patent: December 14, 1982Assignee: Ewag A.G., Maschinen - und WerkzeugfabrikInventor: Peter Herzig

Patent number: 4358911Abstract: A relief thread grinding machine for making screw taps wherein a workpiece 10 is clamped to a resiliently mounted body 5 of a longitudinally adjustable sled 1. The body carries a follower wheel 17 which bears on a cam roller 15 rotatably mounted on the sled. The surface of the cam roller is eccentrically lobed so that when it is axially moved varying oscillation strokes of the body 5 are produced. The cam roller can be axially adjusted as needed during the grinding process so that the amount of relief grind can be changed. In this manner it is possible to provide the conical thread on the lead end of a tap with a different relief grind than the generally cylindrical and posteriorly weak conical thread on the guide end of the tap.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1980Date of Patent: November 16, 1982Assignee: Reishauer AGInventor: Emil Vogelsanger

Patent number: 4356656Abstract: A light fixture incorporating a motorized insect exterminator includes a frame, a light source, and a motor mounted on the frame. A drive shaft of the motor is connected to an end of a clear and pliable plastic impeller. A translucent plate is mounted between the light source and plastic impeller. The free end of the impeller is rotated between 2,000 and 3,600 RPM's by the motor, sweeping out a circular area in the proximity of the plate on the opposite side from the light source. Flying insects, attracted to the light source, fly toward the light source, slow down to land on the plate, fly through the circular area at a relatively slow speed, and are fatally hit by the rapidly revolving impeller. The impeller is flexible enough and light enough to not injure or cut a finger which comes in contact with the rotating impeller.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1980Date of Patent: November 2, 1982Inventor: Gerald W.
