  • Patent number: 4349972
Abstract: A device for protecting shellfish dredge chain bags, featuring arcuate strips of reinforced rubber adapted to be attached to trail beneath the bottom side of the bag to cushion and separate the bag from abrasive action against the ocean floor when it becomes weighted with rocks and shellfish. These strips, in curved form, are cut from the tread or side wall portions of used vehicle tires and are attached to the chain bag in a manner that protects the forward edge and corners of the strip from catching on the ocean floor while allowing the longer portion of the reinforced rubber strip to trail beneath the chain bag. An array of closely adjacent strips effectively defines a wear-resistant surface of the chain bag.

  • Patent number: 4349059
Abstract: The invention relates to a blade holder of the hacksaw type which comprises a C-shaped portion spanned by a blade having a conventional pair of projections being receivable in a slot having a cruciform or T-slot in one arm of the C-shape and the other pair in a similar slot formed in a lever pivotted to the other arm. Movement of the lever from a loading position to an operative position imparts tension to the blade and in the example shown, involves movement into an over-center condition of the lever with respect to its pivotal mounting. The lever has an abutment surface projecting outwardly from its end portion adjacent the pivotal mounting so as to contact the second arm member when the lever is in its loading position to thereby act as an end stop.

  • Patent number: 4348837
Abstract: A felt pad having a beveled front end is produced from a workpiece having a flat bottom with an adhesive thereon covered with a strip of paper or the like and a straight front end. The apparatus includes a rotatable shaft having mounted thereon an abrasive wheel and a wire brush wheel including a cylindrical portion of the same diameter as the abrasive wheel abutting the abrasive wheel and a tapered portion extending toward the shaft axis. A shear plate provides a cutting surface with the abrasive wheel. The workpiece is mounted on a table and fed parallel to the shaft axis with its forward end also parallel thereto. The rotating brush bevels the front end of the pad and fuzz still attached to the pad is removed as it passes between the abrasive wheel and shear plate. A shroud surrounds the wheels and a suction is applied thereto to draw off the materials removed from the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4346746
Abstract: A rotating cutter cuts rough lathe stock into finished dowels sized to the desired dimension. Collars of predetermined length vary the distance between the rotating cutter and the tool. The body of the tool opposes the thrust of the revolving work piece away from the rotating cutting blade and supports stock of small diameter which is flexible and may otherwise bow or whip as it revolves on the lathe between the lathe headstock and tailstock. By twisting the tool, dowels may be finished undersize as needs demand.

  • Patent number: 4346534
Abstract: An apparatus for abrading and finishing the inner surface of an unusual shape, for example the inner ring of a gerotor device, with a tool holder adapted to carry honing stones for movement along the part surface and driven by a mating part engaging a stationary ring mounted inside the assembly and affixed to the drive spindle housing. The stationary ring has an identical shape to the workpiece being machined to guide and synchronize the tool holder in an eccentric path during the abrading operation and the workpiece and stationary ring are orientated to maintain the synchronous relationship. The apparatus while being rotated is also reciprocated transversely to the workpiece surface causing the stones to move in a helical path.

  • Patent number: 4345631
Abstract: A chisel for turning a workpiece spindle has a semi-circular template notch in one end of an elongated blade in combination with a cutting edge and guiding tongue. A beveled portion of the narrow blade forms the cutting edge at one terminus of the notch, and the tongue extends outwardly from the other terminus in diametrically opposed relationship to the cutting edge. The rotating spindle is guided into the constant radius notch by the tongue to permit cutting of a variety of intricate contours in the spindle without gouging and assuring accuracy and reproducibility in turning operations.

  • Patent number: 4344230
Abstract: Shank and knife portions of a cutting tool having particular known utility in the leather tooling art are permitted to swivel within a sleeve member that is held in the chuck of a conventional electrical vibrating tool holder. An angular extension of the shank portion is bevelled to provide the knife portion of the cutting tool for contacting a leather work piece. The ease with which the shank and knife portions of the cutting tool are permitted to swivel is controlled at the time the cutting tool is inserted into the chuck of the tool holder by urging the sleeve against a spring that is coaxially positioned over the shank portion of the cutting tool between the sleeve member and a shoulder that serves to terminate the shank portion.

  • Patent number: 4343116
Abstract: A method of finishing a glass surface to a close tolerance and a substantially blemish-free state using a moving polishing lap and an aqueous treatment liquid containing inert abrasive particles, in which the treatment liquid also contains a bifluoride which reacts with the glass to form an insoluble silicofluoride or fluoride, an acid supplying hydrogen ions and a solubility suppressant which ensures that the silicofluoride or fluoride separates out on the glass surface, whereby the lap and inert particles remove the silicofluoride or fluoride from high portions of the glass surface and thereby allow further reaction and glass removal in those areas until the desired finished form of the glass surface has been achieved, whereupon the supply of treatment liquid is stopped and immediately replaced by a supply of an alkaline neutralizing solution, e.g.
