  • Patent number: 11218985
Abstract: A node transmits/receives signals over first and second communication channels having non-equal propagation speeds. When node identifies reset signal received over first communication channel, it adjusts internal clock, transmits acknowledgement signal and initiates acknowledgement process. When reset signal not identified, node transmits reset signal over first communication channel and receives response signal from one node. If response signal is acknowledgement signal, acknowledgement process is initiated. If response signal is non-acknowledgement signal, internal clock is adjusted and acknowledgement process is initiated. In acknowledgement process, node determines distance to other nodes by measuring travelling time for signal over second communication channel exchanges distance information with other nodes, and fine tunes internal clock of each node when transmitting over first communication channel.

  • Patent number: 11108460
Abstract: Systems, algorithms and methods for reclaiming unused portions of a satellite broadcast service's bandwidth for new services, utilizing higher performance coding techniques to yield better throughput, are presented. These systems, algorithms and methods achieve the reclaimed bandwidth in a way that is invisible to a legacy receiver, and that does not interfere with its reception of a legacy signal. In one embodiment, new data may be transmitted within a legacy transmission frame, for example within its cluster structure, using the same modulation and synchronization as used for the legacy data. The new data may be inserted into a channel or other subdivision at a head end. In another embodiment, one or more clusters or subdivisions with only new data may be transmitted, using the same modulation and synchronization as the legacy data clusters, but now employing a higher performing FEC and data interleaving structure on those clusters which contain only new data to yield an increase in available throughput.

  • Patent number: 11070386
Abstract: The potential problem of too many unique protocol independent multicast (PIM) joins (corresponding to unique (Source, Group) combinations) in PIM join/prune messages being received by a router may be solved by controlling (e.g., limiting) a number of unique PIM joins to be sent to the router from a downstream device. This may be accomplished, for example, by communicating a limit (or multiple different limits) from a PIM device to one or more downstream PIM neighbors. For example, the limit may be encoded in a PIM Hello message (e.g., as an Option Type-Length-Value (TLV)).
