  • Patent number: 4811915
Abstract: A rider roll relieveing system includes a microprocessor for controlling the rider roll force applied to a roll of web material being wound which in turn controls the roll's density or hardness. The operator programs into the system the desired rider roll force or load at the start of the wind and a first diameter at which the rider roll relief is to begin. Also, the ending load at a second diameter at which relieving is to finish is programmed into the system. The microprocessor then provides for the progressive elief of the load as function of the roll's diameter, geometry, and weight between the two prestablished diameters to provide the desired hardness or the roll. The rider roll force is maintained constant until the web has been wound to the first diameter and after it has obtained the second diameter. The system digitally displays the winding roll's diameter and the rider roll force during the winding operation.

  • Patent number: 4809921
Abstract: A device for measuring and re-rolling floor covering material, particularly carpet comprises a base member having sides and a transverse table top. On each side of the table top is mounted a cradle which extends downwardly from the table top and outwardly to the side of the device. Each cradle is formed by four rollers, two of which are carried directly on the base and two of which are cantilevered outwardly therefrom and are pivotally moveable inwardly to a retracted position. The re-roll cradle allows two of the rollers to pivot about the axis of the next adjacent roller so that the rollers can be folded inwardly to form a confined space acting to commence the re-rolling of a carpet edge. A knife is carried on a chain movable across the table top and includes guide wheels which hold the carpet down onto the knife blade.

  • Patent number: 4804153
Abstract: A method and apparatus for continuously withdrawing an elongated product such as from a melt a fine wire is based on the rotating liquid medium spinning method. A layer of cooling liquid (14) is centrifugally formed on the inner peripheral surface of a rotational drum (13). Disposed inside the rotational drum (13) is a winding reel (19) having a rotating winding peripheral surface (18). A holder element (20) adapted to be magnetically attracted to the winding peripheral surface (18) is initially placed on the inner peripheral surface of the rotational drum (13). A molten material injected into the drum by a nozzle (16) is quenched for solidification in the cooling liquid (14) to form the product. Initially, the leading end emerging from the nozzle rides over the holder element (20) which then carries the leading end onto the winding peripheral surface (18) and holds it thereon by magnetic attraction.

  • Patent number: 4802632
Abstract: A device and method for treating the end portion of a paper from a paper roll mounted on a paper feed unit of a paper processer. The device arranged adjacent the paper roll is moved toward the paper roll until a presser roller mounted on the device is pressed against it. A cutter assembly facing the paper roll is pushed out so that its cutter will come into contact with the periphery of the paper roll. The cutter is then slid transversely from one end of the paper roll to the other to cut several turns of paper from the paper roll as broke. The broke is rolled out to be fed downwardly over a suction body through a pair of nip rollers and taken up by a take-up mechanism. Another cutter assembly is pushed forward into contact with the central part of the paper end rolled out together with the broke and moved widthwise to make a center cut in the paper end. A cavity forming device is then pressed against the paper end right under the center cut to form a square cavity there.

  • Patent number: 4795105
Abstract: The package support device comprises a hollow cylindrical rotatable winding core member possessing a substantially cylindrical support surface for the wound-up printed products. At the winding core member there is formed a ring-shaped groove extending in the circumferential direction of the winding core member and open towards the outside. Accommodated within such ring-shaped groove is a winding band wound upon the winding core member. The ring-shaped groove can be covered by a cover member supported at the winding core member. This cover member rotates with the winding core member and is displaceable in the direction of the lengthwise axis of such winding core member in order to expose the ring-shaped groove. The cover member can also be constructed to be rotatable in relation to the winding core. A throughpass opening for the winding band is formed in the cover member.
