  • Patent number: 4746076
Abstract: In a winder device for winding a moving web, such as paper or cardboard web, to form a roll of considerable weight, the roll is carried by support members giving it peripheral support. The support members comprise a rotatable winder drum, transmitting the web to the roll, and a movable support web device. The support members are arranged to form the main support of the roll. The support web device includes a support web having a portion between two rotatable support elements and this support web portion has a roll supporting surface of contact with the roll. The surface of contact is continuously enlarged when said roll grows, in order to eliminate the risk of roll damages due to excess support pressure when winding heavy rolls.

  • Patent number: 4744526
Abstract: A reel bar loading device is provided having sloping storage rails located above the driving roll. The storage rails have lower ends that collapse bringing the reel into the initial winding contact with the driving roll. Once initial winding contact has been established, a transfer arm can be brought up to engage the reel and move the reel into a second winding position remote from the rails while keeping the reel in winding contact during this movement.

  • Patent number: 4736899
Abstract: At least one, preferably two or more, reels are coaxially mounted on a carriage such as a handcart for rotation independently of each other in order to wind surface type fastener tapes or like strips to be transported from one processing station to another. Disposed in a preassigned position, a driving and braking mechanism comprises a plurality of carrier arms each medially pivoted on a fixed support for oscillation about an axis parallel to the axis of the reels. Each carrier arm has a drive roll and a brake mounted on its opposite ends. As the carrier arm is oscillated as by a fluid actuated cylinder, the drive roll and the brake roll are alternately movable into and out of frictional engagement with the periphery of the flange of one associated reel. Thus, for winding one or more strips on one or more reels, the associated carrier arm or arms may be swung in a direction required to move the drive roll or rolls thereon into driving engagement with the reel or reels.

  • Patent number: 4728051
Abstract: A reversible reel assembly including two rotatable reels for successively, continuously winding rolled strip. The two reels are mounted on a rotatable head plate and are rotatably driven independently from each other. In order to supply the positioning drives of the reels with drive media, rotatable media supplies which are trouble-prone and expensive are required. In order to provide a reversible reel assembly without trouble-prone media supplies, a reel is suggested in which the reel drums are continuously spread-apart by means of the force of a spring and the positioning drives are arranged stationary independently from the reels, so that the reels can be moved into the positioning drives in certain positions and the movement of the segments between a position of rest and a spread-apart position can be effected in these positions.

  • Patent number: 4726532
Abstract: Method and apparatus for reeling a web, suitable in the reeling of paper web, wherein the web is introduced over the mantle of a reeling cylinder and passed onto a reeling shaft on which the web is reeled. The pressure level in a wedge-shaped inlet nip defined between the reeling cylinder mantle and the incoming run of the web is adjusted to eliminate or reduce the positive pressure which would otherwise exist in the nip by ejecting air from the nip by means of a blowing member situated in connection with the nip. Air jets are discharged from the blowing member in a direction opposite to the direction of movement of the surface of the reeling cylinder and/or opposite to the direction of movement of the incoming web run and by means of the air jets, air is ejected from the inlet nip to reduce the pressure therein.

  • Patent number: 4723563
Abstract: A wheel soaper for spraying soap on a wheel rim includes a conveyor for conveying wheels in a horizontal position in succession to a soaping station. A downwardly facing frictional drive disc is located above the conveyor at the soaping station clear of the path of movement of wheels and is mounted for rotation about a fixed vertical axis. A cone member is mounted beneath the disc in coaxial relationship with the disc for free rotation and is driven in vertical movement by a reciprocating air motor upwardly from and downwardly to a normally maintained rest position below the path of wheels on the conveyor. When a wheel is stopped on the conveyor at the soaping station, the cone is driven upwardly into the central opening of the wheel to lift the wheel from the conveyor until the upper rim of the wheel is firmly pressed against the drive disc which is then driven in rotation as soap is sprayed from a stationary nozzle onto the rotating wheel rim.

  • Patent number: 4721039
Abstract: The bottom roll of a roll stack in a calender is constructed as a controlled deflection roll equipped with a non-rotatable carrier or support beam and a roll shell rotatable about the non-rotatable carrier. The roll shell is supported on the non-rotatable carrier by means of hydraulic support or pressure elements. The non-rotatable carrier is supported with respect to the calender stand by means of hydraulic carrier support devices. For the rapid opening of the calender and to avoid damage to the roll shell, initially the pressure exerted on the roll shell support elements is reduced in a sudden manner and only after a predetermined time-delay is there reduced the pressure exerted on the carrier support devices.

  • Patent number: 4721266
Abstract: The present invention relates to a continuously running rewinder with a pressure roller for winding a paper web, for instance, from a supercalender onto a reel-up drum. The rewinder comprises roll stands, which are provided with a primary drive for rotating a rewinding reel-up drum, a pressure roller assembly including the pressure roller via which the web is routed to pass before entering the rewinding reel-up drum and which can be actuated to swing from an open position to a closed position toward the roll stands so that the pressure roller assembly is pressed against the rewinding reel-up drum to form with it a nip for the web. The rewinder includes a pressing bar, whose path of movement is adapted to pass between the pressure roller and the rewinding reel-up drum and via which the web is routed to pass so that when the bar is in its lower position and the pressure roller assembly in its open position the bar holds the web at a lower level than that of the nip.

  • Patent number: 4718589
Abstract: An apparatus for adjusting a stroke of a stroke material feed mechanism used in a punch crank press comprises a throw member fixedly attached to the crank shaft of the press for joint rotation therewith. A crank pin means which provides for reciprocal movement of the feed block of the feed mechanism is attached to the throw member. Motor means displaces the crank pin means relative to the throw member to change the eccentricity of said crank pin means relative to the axis of the crank shaft whereby the amount of stock length advanced into the working area of the press is changed.

  • Patent number: 4718618
Abstract: In a film reader system in which a film provided with a leader film having a width wider than the width of end flanges of a reel around which the film is wound is wound up around another reel, when a wind-back motor is driven at high speed to wind back around the first mentioned wind-back reel, the leader film is detected by a pair of pinch rollers on the way of the film travelling. Upon the detection, the wind-back motor is electrically braked and the wind-up motor is reversely driven at high speed in the film wind-back direction to release the leader film from the wind-back reel. The wind-back and wind-up motors are then driven in synchronized manner at low speed in the film wind-back direction and the wind-back motor is again driven at high speed upon the detection of the leader film passing the detecting pinch rollers.

  • Patent number: 4700907
Abstract: A stock advancing apparatus for advancing stock to or from a stock processing machine. The stock advancing apparatus includes a drive motor for driving the stock advancing apparatus and a stock loop control arm mounted for swinging movement and adapted to engage a stock loop intermediate the stock advancing apparatus in the stock processing machine, and mechanism responsive to swinging movement of the control arm controls operation of the drive motor to maintain a loop in the stock between the stock advancing apparatus and the stock processing machine. A control arm cam is mounted for movement with the stock loop control arm and a cam follower is pressed into engagement with the control arm cam by a spring. The control arm cam and cam follower and spring are constructed and arranged to apply torque to the control arm in a direction to oppose upward movement of the control arm and which increases as the control arm moves upwardly and decreases as the control arm moves downardly.
