Abstract: Provided is a composition for preventing or treating obesity including a mixed extract of Cinnamomi twigs, and more particularly, a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating obesity including a mixed extract of Cinnamomi twigs and Moutan root bark, a health functional food composition of feed composition for preventing or alleviating obesity including the composition, and a method of preventing or treating obesity including administering the pharmaceutical composition to an individual having obesity or a risk of developing obesity. The mixed extract of Cinnamomi twigs and Moutan root bark may inhibit fat absorption in the intestinal tract and increases in body weight causing obesity by single-dose administration, reduce lipid content in the blood, decrease weight and size of adipocytes, effectively inhibit accumulation of fat in liver tissue, and inhibit diarrhea, a serious side effect of Xenical™, by long-term administration.

Abstract: This invention relates to extracts rich in N-acids of imino sugars (as opposed to neutral and basic imino sugars) and/or pipecolic acids obtainable from the plant leaves of mulberry (Morus). The extracts have been shown to have enzymatic activities making extracts rich in these compounds, and the compounds isolated from these extracts, to be good candidates for use in the treatment of diseases, particularly, but not exclusively, metabolic disorders, such as, for example, diabetes.

Abstract: Methods are provided for inducing granulation tissue on chronic third-degree post-escharotomy burn wounds present on the skin of a mammalian subject, which includes human subjects. A method according to the disclosure comprises contacting a third-degree burn wound with an extract of Hamelia patens, in combination with a dermatologically-acceptable carrier. Methods according to the disclosure are applicable to chemically-induced, electrically-induced, and thermally-induced third-degree burn wounds on skin.

Abstract: Novel methods for isolating fish roe/egg extracts, notably a coagulum and a sediment extract, enriched in phospholipids and omega-3 fatty acids are described. Novel compositions comprising omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and micronutrients, which may be used for the management of neurological conditions such as ADD-ADHD, autism, cognitive impairment, and mood disorders are also described. These compositions are homogenous compositions comprising effective amounts of omega-3 fatty acids in microencapsulated or emulsified form, and/or from the sediment extract from fish roe/egg, vitamin B6, magnesium, zinc and copper, and may further comprise additional ingredients such as folic acid (e.g., L-methyl folate) and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA).

Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for improving cognitive ability, and preventing or treating dementia and a hyperactivity disorder, which includes a Galla rhois extract and fraxin as active ingredients. It was identified that the composition including the Galla rhois extract and fraxin significantly improves cognitive memory in an Alzheimer's disease model induced by A? (1-42) administration and an APPswe/PS1dE9 double-expressing Alzheimer's disease model, and inhibits the generation of amyloid plaques, suggesting the usefulness of the combination of the Galla rhois extract and fraxin, as a therapeutic material, against Alzheimer's disease, and showing that the combination of the Galla rhois extract and fraxin is able to be used as a therapeutic agent for ADHD.
