  • Patent number: 4857277
Abstract: An ultraviolet ozone generating device has a tubular enclosure with a light tunnel or box situated within the enclosure and containing a cold cathode UV lamp. An input duct and an output duct, each comprised of a 90 degree ell tube, prevent direct line of sight escape of the UV radiation from the device but do not restrict the air flow through the light tunnel. In order to control the output level, the lamp is powered to pulse on and off, and the duty cycle of the lamp power is controlled through a control knob which can be adjusted as desired. The enclosure is constructed so that any condensation forms and drips to the outside.

  • Patent number: 4842829
Abstract: A deodorizing apparatus adapted to be placed in an enclosure to deodorize the bad smelling components of the foul air within the enclosure. The body has an interior free space and a ozone-decomposing layer. Ozone is generated within the free space and flows in contact with the layer so that it is decomposed before it can leave the body. The ozone is formed either by silent (corona) discharge or by ultraviolet radiation in the free space, and the energy supplied is sufficient to cause the ozone to flow outwardly into contact with the layer and to draw in foul air through the layer so that the decomposing ozone effectively deodorizes by oxidation the bad smelling components. The flow through the device is sufficient to deodorize the entire enclosure.

  • Patent number: 4837375
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for producing green salt (UF.sub.4) from uranium-bearing metal pieces. The uranium-bearing metal pieces are dissolved in a first aqueous solution containing hydrochloric acid and between 0.5% and 5% fluoboric acid to provide a second aqueous solution which includes uranium (U.sup.+4), chlorine ions (Cl.sup.-) and hydrochloric and fluoboric acids. Hydrofluoric acid is added to the second aqueous solution to precipitate green salt out of that solution and provide a third aqueous solution which contains hydrochloric acid. The green salt is then separated from the third aqueous solution.

  • Patent number: 4834909
Abstract: Compositions of matter and methods of preparation are described for water and air stable, square planar transition metal double-complex salts which contain isonitrile ligands derivatized with long chain aliphatic groups. These salts are composed of two metal-containing complex ions: the cation is a tetrakis isonitrile metal ion and the anion is a tetrahalometallate or tetracyanometallate. These double-complex salts exhibit the novel property of thermochromism and are useful as temperature indicators and in imaging applications.

  • Patent number: 4834948
Abstract: A device for enriching a fluid with ozone includes an inner tubular member arranged within an outer tubular member and defining a separate flow path for a fluid within the inner tubular member and another one for a fluid between the inner and outer tubular members. An electrode which has a high voltage regulation and a coil portion which extends through the inner tubular member forms a grounding electrode. A fluid such as air which is to be enriched with ozone is passed either through the inner tubular member or the space between the two tubular members and a cooling fluid is passed in the other tubular member. The inner tubular member is made of an ultraviolet penetrable and heat resistant material such as quartz glass.

  • Patent number: 4822614
Abstract: A film-forming bioactive composition for control of crawling insects and the like is disclosed. Also disclosed are methods of producing and utilizing the bioactive composition. The bioactive composition comprises a water-in-oil emulsion, a lubricating agent also dispersed throughout the emulsion. The water-in-oil emulsion comprises a continuous phase, an aqueous discontinuous phase, and an emulsifier system for dispersing the discontinuous phase throughout the continuous phase. The bioactive composition of the present invention is characterized in that after particles of the instant bioactive composition have been applied to a surface, a substantial portion of the continuous and discontinuous phases will evaporate over time, leaving a residual film on the surface. Such film comprises the emulsifier system, the bioactive ingredient, and the lubricating agent.
