Abstract: Systems for and methods of utilizing a neuroimaging database are presented. The systems and methods include techniques for analyzing the pathophysiological basis of a chronic brain disease and/or the effectiveness of a treatment for a chronic brain disease, obtaining data for research of a chronic brain disease, searching for chronic brain disease symptoms identified in a clinical patient, searching a database by comparing the brain scan images of patients with suspected indications of chronic brain disease with other patients in the database to identify sets of patients with similar indications in their brain scan images, displaying brain scan information regarding a person, and using image pattern matching to analyze the pathophysiological basis of a chronic brain disease and/or the effectiveness of a proposed or previously administered treatment for a chronic brain disease.

Abstract: Provided are a movement guide providing method of a video recording device. The method includes: measuring a movement speed according to a movement of the video recording device; comparing the measured movement speed value of the video recording device with a reference value; generating a guide sub screen that represents a result value of the comparing; and displaying the generated sub screen on a display main screen of the video recording device.

Abstract: Provided are systems and methods for use in data archiving. In one arrangement, compression techniques are provided wherein an earlier version of a data set (e.g., file folder, etc) is utilized as a dictionary of a compression engine to compress a subsequent version of the data set. This compression identifies changes between data sets and allows for storing these differences without duplicating many common portions of the data sets. For a given version of a data set, new information is stored along with metadata used to reconstruct the version from each individual segment saved at different points in time. In this regard, the earlier data set and one or more references to stored segments of a subsequent data set may be utilized to reconstruct the subsequent data set.

Abstract: On a recording medium, stereoscopic and monoscopic specific areas are located one after another next to a stereoscopic/monoscopic shared area. The stereoscopic/monoscopic shared area is a contiguous area to be accessed both in stereoscopic video playback and monoscopic video playback. The stereoscopic specific area is a contiguous area to be accessed immediately before a long jump occurring in stereoscopic video playback. In both the stereoscopic/monoscopic shared area and the stereoscopic specific area, extents of base-view and dependent-view stream files are arranged in an interleaved manner. The extents on the stereoscopic specific area are next in order after the extents on the stereoscopic/monoscopic shared area. The monoscopic specific area is a contiguous area to be accessed immediately before a long jump occurring in monoscopic video playback. The monoscopic specific area has a copy of the entirety of the extents of the base-view stream file recorded on the stereoscopic specific area.

Abstract: Methods and systems for improving user search experience with a search engine by providing a way for associated users to personalize search queries and/or search results based on users' information gathered from a social network. Search personalization can be achieved through the tailoring of search methodologies or the ranking or ordering of search results in accordance with information gathered for each user.

Abstract: A computer-based method for use in geotargeting online ads to users of search engines by allowing comparison of user's search terms with a set of geo-keywords. The method includes providing a geographic keyword generator on a server that is linked to the Internet. The method includes providing a spatial database storing classes of geographic keywords. The method continues with receiving a keyword request including a business address from a client node. The keyword generator determines a service area based on this location, and a set of geographic keywords is retrieved from the spatial database that are associated (e.g., within) the determined service area. This set of keywords is transmitted or reported to the client node (e.g., displayed in a web browser or user interface) for use in geotargeting of their online advertisements. The keyword request includes a business type, and the service area is sized based on the business type.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to methods and systems for building representations of related subjects. The representations may include a plurality of nodes, each being associated with a subject. Users may be able to access records and/or source documents related to a plurality of subjects and add or modify node characteristics based thereon. Users may interact with (e.g., by adding to or modifying) documents, files, and/or records and may also make other changes or additions to nodes in the system. A process may then identify what other users may be interested in such interaction and why. For example, a score may be associated with the interaction and other users based on factors such as whether the users have linked to the document, file or record and/or the node the interaction may apply to. Interacting users, identified users, and interaction details may be stored in a database. Identified users may be notified of the interaction.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable storage media are disclosed for providing a search results output tool. According to an illustrative embodiment, a method receives one or more search results generated by a search engine in response to a user query of a network information source. Each of the search results is associated with one or more properties. The properties associated with each of the search results are stored. The user is prompted to select one or more selected search results. The user is also prompted to select one or more selected properties. A record is generated for each of the selected search results that include the one or more selected properties. The record for each of the selected search results is then output.

Abstract: Multimedia content containing moving pictures and audio is divided into multiple scenes and metadata is generated for each of the scenes obtained as a result of the division. It is possible to generate metadata containing scene structure information metadata that describes the hierarchical structure of the content in addition to scene section information and titles. Also, a name or an identifier of each descriptor contained in the metadata is described as hint information for manipulation of metadata composed of at least one descriptor describing semantic content, a structure, and characteristics of content.

Abstract: In one example, a method for ranking items such as contest entries is provided. An exemplary method includes displaying sequential subsets of entries from a plurality of entries for a first user to vote on, e.g., making a selection of their preference of one over the other. The method further includes generating a first preference ballot of displayed entries based on selections by the first user, and ranking the plurality of entries based upon the first preference ballot and at least a second preference ballot received from another user. The ranking may be determined based on the first and second preference ballot by a Condorcet algorithm. Additionally, display of the entries may be determined based on previous selections associated with the contest entries, e.g., based on the state of the contest and/or the history of particular contest entries.

Abstract: A log manager may store a validation indicator with each data block of a log entry. The log manager may create a header block for each log entry that may include a validation indicator or tag. Such a validation indicator may be stored within the metadata for each data block. The validation indicator may additionally be stored in the metadata for the header block and it may be stored in header block itself. When recovering such a log, according to some embodiments, the validation indicators for each data block are checked against the validation indicator in the header block.

Abstract: The amount of information provided to a user is adjusted adaptively by means of a simple method. To this end, the present invention includes delay sections 70A to 70D that each add a predetermined amount of delay to a picture whose playback speed has been converted, and output the picture to display sections 2B to 2E other than a first display section 2A of a plurality of display sections, and a playback speed converting section 60 that converts the playback speed of an input picture on the basis of a given variable, and outputs the converted playback speed to the first display section 2A and the delay sections 70A to 70D.

Abstract: A network device can manage the storing of content. In one aspect, the content may be managed to prevent the storing of multiple versions of the same content. A deduplication process may be performed by comparing digests generated at user devices. Based on the comparison of the digests, the network device can efficiently and effectively manage the retrieving and storing of content.

Abstract: Methods and computer-readable media are provided for presenting on a website a single video stream that includes a plurality of preview videos directed toward a particular category of interest to a user. Informational items, such as news stories, that have associated preview videos are selected from a database. A preview video for each of the informational items is then algorithmically determined using, for instance, a ranking system. The ranking system may be based on a variety of heuristics, which may indicate popularity, importance, reliability, or relevance of the specific preview video. The single video stream is presented on the website such that the preview videos can be viewed as an assembled sequence of videos. Once an indication has been received to initiate play of the video stream, the preview videos play without requiring any user interaction.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for providing and displaying enhanced banners and other objects on a communication device. The banner file may comprise ancillary data, such as calendar appointment details, other event details, or contact details, embedded within the file itself, or comprised in an envelope wrapping the banner file. When the banner is displayed on the communication device, the user may invoke a context menu to create an event, such as a calendar event, on the device using the embedded ancillary data. In other embodiments, the communication device uses geolocation services to determine whether the user is likely to be in attendance at an event, and if not, to issue alerts or initiate a further action, such as initiating recording of a television program the user is about to miss, over the network. In other embodiments, the banner file's ancillary data includes recommendation data, identifying a banner as being recommended by a contact of the user's.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for estimating duplicate data in a storage system. A duplicate estimation application executes on a client of a storage system selects an element from an intended destination such as, e.g., a data store of the storage system. If the element is a file (or other data container), the application reads data from the file and computes a fingerprint of the read data. The computed fingerprint is then logged in a fingerprint database, which is illustratively stored on a storage device connected to the client executing the application. This process repeats until the entire file (or other data container) has been read and fingerprinted. Once all elements have been scanned, fingerprinted and recorded, the application identifies any unique entries within the fingerprint database. Utilizing this information, the application computes an estimated space savings that may be realized by employing a data de-duplication technique.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to system(s), method(s), and apparatus for accurate fast forward rate when performing trick play with variable distance between frames. In one embodiment, there is presented a circuit for providing a fast forward video sequence. The circuit comprises a system time clock for providing a time reference, said time reference incremented at a predetermined fast forward rate; a comparator for comparing the time reference with timing information associated with a picture; and a controller for determining whether to display the picture based at least in part on the comparison between the timing information and the time reference.

Abstract: A method for providing a content entity from a storage disc is described. The storage disc comprises at least one further content entity. Each content entity comprises a main menu and at least one submenu accessible via the main menu. The storage disc further comprises an entity selection menu. The entity selection menu comprises a link to the main menu of the content entity to be provided. The method comprises providing the entity selection menu for reproduction, receiving a selection of the content entity to be provided, detecting that the storage disc comprises a plurality of content entities, mapping a pre-defined start address to a different start address and providing the selected content entity for reproduction based on the different start address. The pre-defined start address is mapped to a different start address of the storage disc associated with the main menu of the selected content entity to be provided.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting copy protection included in an input video signal is described. Two types of copy protection are particularly addressed, including techniques that imbed copy protection pulses and copy protection phase flips in the video signal. A method for preserving copy protection is also presented, where the input video signal is first examined to determine if copy protection has been included in the input video signal. The input video signal then converted to component video data, which removes any copy protection present. An output video signal is then generated from the component video data, and when it was determined that the input video signal includes copy protection, the copy protection is recreated in the output video signal.

Abstract: A file for storing digital data with high compression rate stores digital data for video and audio signals in multiple streams interleaved with each other. Each track has a stream descriptor list and a stream data list. The stream descriptor list includes a stream header chunk, a stream format chunk, and a stream name chunk. For a video stream, the stream descriptor list also includes a stream header data chunk if the video stream is under digital rights management (DRM) protection. The file format is compatible with high level data compressing algorithms, such as MPEG-4, which provide data compression ratio about six to ten times higher than a standard DVD format.
