Abstract: A method includes generating a first table having a set of attributes for each file in a first set of files associated with a first computer user. The set of attributes for each file in the first set of files have a plurality of attribute types. The method further includes generating a second table having a set of attributes for each file in a second set of files associated with a second computer user. The set of attributes for each file in the second set of files have the plurality of attribute types. The method further includes generating a similarity table by comparing each set of attributes in the first table with each set of attributes in the second table, utilizing a predetermined similarity metric, and determining whether the first and second computer users have at least one file with common attributes, based on data in the similarity table.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a video data processing apparatus which receives a data file includes a file receiving module, an analyzer, a default data storage module, a data restoration module, and a management module. The data file includes a header, in which a header key field, a header length field, and a header value field are arranged. The analyzer detects a character string, thereby detects a header key field of the data file received by the file receiving module, and reads out header metadata information from a following header value field. The data restoration module discards header data from a first position, in absence of the character string at the first position, and restores default data in the default data storage module instead of the discarded header data. The management module stores the header metadata information and the default data.

Abstract: A recordable and/or rewriteable recording medium for storing still picture data, and recording and/or reproducing method and apparatus therefor. The recording medium stores still picture group information for grouping a plurality of still pictures in order to manage the still picture at a group level, and stores audio group information for grouping additional audio data added to the still picture data after the still picture data are recorded. Therefore, large-capacity still picture data and additional audio data added thereto can be recorded using a minimum amount of management information. Further, during reproduction, data can be displayed and edited in units of the respective still pictures. Also, it is possible to cope with after-recording of the audio data.

Abstract: A system and method for disambiguating references to entities in a document. In one embodiment, an iterative process is used to disambiguate references to entities in documents. An initial model is used to identify documents referring to an entity based on features contained in those documents. The occurrence of various features in these documents is measured. From the number occurrences of features in these documents, a second model is constructed. The second model is used to identify documents referring to the entity based on features contained in the documents. The process can be repeated, iteratively identifying documents referring to the entity and improving subsequent models based on those identifications. Additional features of the entity can be extracted from documents identified as referring to the entity.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus providing a visual indication of the occurrence of video recording operations on an electronic device. The video recording operations including recording a plurality of frames according to a number of characteristics. The method comprising providing a time interval between the recording of two consecutive frames by modifying at least one of the characteristics of the video recording operations and providing the visual indication of video recording operations during the time interval.

The display apparatus includes a resolution enhancer that calculates an average brightness of first left-eye image data included in an nth (n is a natural number) line of the 3D image data and second left-eye image data included in an n+2th line of the 3D image data to obtain left-eye average data, calculates an average brightness of first right-eye image data included in an n+1th line of the 3D image data and second right-eye image data included in an n+4th line of the 3D image data to obtain right-eye average data, and converts the brightness of the left-eye average data and the right-eye average data into grayscale values.

Abstract: A playback device that secures coexistence of a built-in GUI for a built-in machine created uniquely by the manufacturer and a stereoscopic image created by the contents provider. A subtitle decoder displays a subtitle in a predetermined layout by decoding a subtitle stream. A GUI processing unit draws the built-in GUI. The layout of the subtitle to be displayed is one of: normal layout in which areas for subtitle display are provided both in upper and lower parts of a screen; top arrangement layout in which an area for displaying subtitle is provided only in the upper part of the screen; and bottom arrangement layout in which the area for displaying the subtitle is provided only in the lower part. When the top or bottom arrangement layout is selected as the layout of the subtitle, the GUI processing unit selects the layout of the subtitle as the layout of the built-in GUI.

Abstract: A computer automatically reads each object in a metadata that is descriptive of a database. Then the computer automatically applies a number of rules, to check if the object triggers a rule. If so, then the computer automatically changes the metadata as per an action identified by the triggered rule. After all rules are applied to the object, and after all objects in the metadata are processed, the resulting metadata is used to change the database's structure. The objects may be read from the metadata in an order (e.g. hierarchy) specified in meta-metadata that is descriptive of the metadata.

Abstract: A method and system for managing multiple user locks and deletion requests on a digital video recorder (DVR) is disclosed. Files associated with the DVR can be protected from deletion by allowing users to lock a recorded file utilizing a number of locking strategies. The recorded file can also be locked by multiple users and the recording can be deleted when the users specifically remove the lock. A simpler interface for each user can be provided to prevent other users from deleting recorded files, which have not yet been viewed. Such an approach allows for an administrative override to prevent users from locking recordings and never unlocking in order to prevent the DVR exhausting disk space.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a media-editing application that performs frame rate conversion detection on a video. For a video that has been converted from one frame rate and format to another frame rate and format, the application detects the conversion method that has been used in the conversion of the video. Some embodiments perform this frame rate conversion detection by detecting patterns of repeating fields and/or frames in a video sequence created by the different conversion processes. Some embodiments compute (i) a frame difference value for each consecutive frames, (ii) a correlation score for the first and second fields of each frame, and (iii) a correlation score for the second field of each frame and the first field of a succeeding frame. Frame difference values are compared with each other to detect repeated frames and correlation scores are compared with each other to detect repeated fields.

Abstract: There is disclosed a stream data reception/reproduction device capable of suppressing deterioration of quality of stream data reproduced even when the stream data is received via an IP network or the like in which the packet arrival timing and the order are not guaranteed. In this device, a reproduction speed control unit (107) sets various conditions in accordance with the value of the synchronization difference reported from a synchronization difference calculation unit (102). Only when the set conditions are satisfied, the speed of reproduction of a frame decompressed and inputted from a decoding unit (105) is adjusted. The reproduction speed control unit (107) interpolates a predetermined amount of sample data into the frame or decimates it from the frame when adjusting the reproduction speed.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for triggering a provisioning event in a service provider using a provisioning request message generated by an external system. A provisioning system may be used to receive the provisioning request message from the external system and transmit information in the provisioning request message to the service provider to trigger the provisioning event. The provisioning request message may have a data structure that includes a header section and a body section. The body section may contain a provisioning entity section that includes information identifying an entity to which the provisioning event pertains, wherein the provisioning entity section includes one or more attributes defined by the external system.

Abstract: A first media service is acquired in response to a scheduled acquisition command, where the acquiring operation is performed by a user receiver. The time the acquiring operation takes place depends on information in the command, which indicates when the acquiring operation is supposed to take place and when operation terminates. The receipt of a non-scheduled command by the user receiver causes the acquisition of a second media service, where upon the expiration of the non-scheduled command, the first media service is re-acquired. Upon the expiration of the scheduled command, a third media service is automatically acquired, where the third media service was previously selected by a user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for enriching audio/video recordings using annotation data provided by attendees of a presentation, in which annotations from attendees are received by a server which merges and synchronizes the annotation data, performs text data mining to identify key messages and temporal segments of the audio/video data, and constructs an enriched audio/video recording including audio and/or video data as well as segment data and key message data for ease of user navigation.

Abstract: A virtual content server and method are provided for giving virtual content providers an opportunity to provide their virtual content, such as an advertisement, to a mobile device of a user who has achieved or otherwise satisfied one or more predetermined conditions in, or interacted in a certain way with, one or more mobile apps on the mobile device. When a certain condition is satisfied in a mobile app of the mobile device, a device identifier of the mobile device is sent to the virtual content server and stored in a previously-generated recipient list of users in a recipient list database. When a virtual content request including the device identifier is later received from the mobile device, the virtual content server retrieves as at least part of a plurality of virtual content candidates virtual content previously associated with recipient list(s) for which the device identifier has been stored in the recipient list database.
