  • Patent number: 3957903
Abstract: A two-stage process for producing a three-component graft copolymer of 1,2-polybutadiene, glycidyl methacrylate and a second monomer. By first reacting glycidyl methacrylate on the polymeric substrate and then reacting the second monomer to form a non-crosslinked graft copolymer, high curing rates are obtained. By forming a solvent solution of the grafted product, an epoxy hardener and a radical polymerization initiator, a varnish suitable for forming dielectric prepregs is obtained.

  • Patent number: 3943104
Abstract: Epoxy resins, of the polyglycidyl ether of a polyhydric phenol type, are cured by incorporating therein a polyoxyalkylenepolyamine and an accelerator combination of piperazine and an alkanolamine, the combination having a combined weight ratio of between about 1:8 to 1:1. The accelerator combination is synergistic for accelerating the curing of a polyglycidyl ether of a polyhydric phenol cured with a polyoxyalkylenepolyamine at ambient or elevated temperatures. The epoxy resin products are useful in protective coatings, adhesives, seamless and terrazzo flooring, castings, laminates, and in grouting, potting, encapsulating, caulking and sealing compositions.

  • Patent number: 3940374
Abstract: Polythiols having more than two terminal and/or pendant thiol groups per polymer molecule are formed by the free radical catalyzed addition of a monomer system made up of either hydrogen sulfide or a dithiol alone or in combination with an acetylenic compound to a polyolefin having at least three olefin sites. The polyolefin is preferably a tri-terminal olefin. The polythiol products are liquid, essentially gel-free materials having number average molecular weights varying from 200 to 30000. The polyfunctional prepolymers of the invention can be cured to stable three-dimensional networks with inexpensive bi-functional oxidants such as lead dioxide. Additionally, prepolymer compositions having 3 or more pendant or terminal thiol groups per molecule when combined with polyfunctional organic reagents, such as diepoxides, form stable, high-tenacity adhesive systems.
