  • Patent number: 9514633
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and methods for notifying first responders of the general or specific location of a security crisis or threat in a building or public location, and the type of threat or crisis that has occurred, while notifying building occupants or others in the public location of the crisis and how to respond. The crisis notification system alarm system can provide critical information to the first responders, including location of crisis and whether the crisis location is changing, audio and video of the crisis arena, communications with designated occupants in the crisis arena, and other information. The crisis notification system can be scaled to allow the effective use in facilities of differing sizes and layouts. The system is also flexible, enabling the system to integrate with currently existing systems or to operate with new devices.

  • Patent number: 9489842
Abstract: A system for identifying a fastest possible travel route is disclosed. A traveler data processor collects traffic speed data and associates the traffic speed data with road segments. The road segments collectively represent one or more possible travel routes from a start point to an end point. A forecast engine determines a predicted travel time for each of the road segments based on, for example, the traffic speed data for each of the road segments. A routing engine determines the fastest possible travel route from the start point to the end point. The fastest possible travel route is the possible travel route from the one or more possible travel routes with the shortest predicted travel time.

  • Patent number: 9481300
Abstract: A proximity alert system includes a vehicle that may be driven on a roadway. A proximity alert is coupled to the vehicle and the proximity alert detects obstacles around the vehicle when the vehicle is driven on the roadway. The proximity alert is electrically coupled to the turn signal such that the proximity alert is turned on when the turn signal is actuated. The proximity alert generates an alarm sequence when the turn signal is actuated and the proximity alert detects the obstacle. Thus, the proximity alert alerts a driver of the vehicle to the presence of the obstacles when the vehicle changes lanes on the roadway. The proximity alert generates an all clear sequence when the turn signal is actuated and the proximity alert does not detect the obstacle. Thus, the proximity alert facilitates the driver to safely change lanes on the roadway.

  • Patent number: 9472088
Abstract: A low-power wireless communication device is in a sleep or standby mode of operation for extended periods of time, periodically becoming fully operational and issuing a “check in” message to a base station, thereby inhibiting the ability of the base station to assist in the locating of device, and remotely updating the settings or operational programming of the device much of the time. Upon receipt of a command to locate a misplaced low-power wireless device or to update the device, a base station queues an associated command in a task queue. Upon receipt of a check-in message from an associated low-power wireless device, indicating it is in a fully powered and communicative state of operation, the base station searches its task queue for applicable commands relative to the specific wireless device and executes them via communication with the now fully-operational wireless device.

  • Patent number: 9472092
Abstract: In a method for remote monitoring of alarms, audio test signals generated by a plurality of alarm devices, including a first and second alarm of the same type (e.g., smoke detector, door or window alarm, etc.), are sensed. For each alarm device, the respective audio test signal is processed to generate alarm identification data, and an indication of a type of the alarm device and a location of the alarm device is received. An audio signal that the first alarm device generated in response to detecting an alarm condition is sensed, and processed according to an audio recognition technique to identify the alarm device that generated the audio signal. A notification is caused to be sent to a user. The notification includes the type and the location of the first alarm device.

  • Patent number: 9406231
Abstract: A condition monitoring system and method employ a storage device that stores information representing a plurality of boundary points of a boundary circumscribing an area of interest in which the boundary points are defined by two prescribed parameters, and a controller that obtains at least one condition point defined by current values of the prescribed parameters, determines a first boundary point of the boundary points that is closest to the condition point, and generates geometric data representing a geometric relationship between the first boundary point, the condition point and a second boundary point of the boundary points. The controller performs further calculations taking into account the geometric data to generate coordinate condition data, and determines whether the condition point lies within the area of interest based on a comparison between coordinates of the condition point and the coordinate condition data.
