Abstract: A global time indicating calculator has a rotating dial for calculating global standard time and advanced time in various international time zones. Indicia printed on the face of the dial and corresponding sections of the face of the calculator can be easily referenced to determine time of day at selected locations throughout the world. The calculator is used by dialing present time and reading the indicia to determine time at a different local. The dial has an outer annular ring marked with numerical indicia and scale indicia along its circumference for measuring time at selected increments. The time indicia is matched with selected geographical region to calculate the time of day worldwide.

  • Patent number: 6785194
Abstract: A method and apparatus for precision time interval measurement in a time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOF-MS). The method and apparatus produces an instrument capable of measuring bursts of data occurring at rates much higher than the average data rate. An asynchronous serial stream of data, consisting of a start pulse followed by an arbitrary number of stop pulses, repeated an arbitrary number of times, is converted into a digital stream of data synchronized to a precision master clock. Conversion of the asynchronous, analog data to synchronous digital data simplifies the measurement task by allowing the use of powerful, low-cost digital logic in the measurement.

  • Patent number: 6785150
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for preventing warpage of printed circuit boards (PCBs) for the purpose of maintaining proper shape and alignment. A PCB is placed on a base of matching shape and slightly larger size. The PCB is secured to the base by a single fastener, preferably through approximately its center. Inwardly curving brackets are mounted along the outer edges of the base in such a way that their central portions rest on top of the PCB. The brackets are constructed of a solid yet flexible non-conducive material and are fastened to the base and, optionally, to each other. The PCB placed in between the base and the brackets is able to expand without warping significantly. This method is especially effective when used to maintain the shape and alignment of the PCB for an antenna.

  • Patent number: 6741481
Abstract: A structure for a circuit board attaching portion includes a circuit board on which an engaged portion are formed and a mounting part in which an engaging claw are formed. The circuit board is attached to the mounting part by engaging the engaging claw with the engaged portion. A catch preventing portion, which prevents the engaging claw from being caught, is formed on the engaged portion. Even when an edge portion of the engaged portion has an acute angle or even when there is a difference in hardness between the circuit board and the mounting part, the catch preventing portion effectively prevents a catch between the engaged portion and the engagement claw from occurring. Therefore, the efficiency of the attaching work can be improved and the circuit board can be prevented from cracking.

  • Patent number: 6731516
Abstract: An LGA connector (1) includes a housing (2), and a number of contacts (3) received in the housing. The housing defines a cavity (23) in a middle thereof for receiving a CPU (7) and a multiplicity of passageways (231) in a portion thereof under the cavity, and has a number of stand-offs (220) at a bottom surface thereof. Each passageway includes a slot (2312). Each contact comprises an engaging portion (33) movably engaging in the corresponding slot, a long arm (31) accommodated within the passageway, and a solder portion (32) engaging a PCB (5). In use, the CPU is pressed downwardly to press the housing downwardly. The engaging portion of each contact slides upwardly in the slot. The stand-offs of the housing attach on the PCB, and the long arm of each contact deforms elastically to contact the CPU. The LGA connector thus electrically connects the CPU with the PCB.
