  • Patent number: 4569638
Abstract: A motor pump is described wherein an air cooled, oil-lubricated motor has its rotor axially displaced from its stator and in which the bearing support for the motor shaft is entirely on one side of the rotor. The drive shaft is coupled to the impeller in the pump unit by means of a flexible coupler which serves to reduce vibration levels which are transmitted through the piping system.

  • Patent number: 4566272
Abstract: The invention relates to a hydrostatic steering control unit of the type having a metering motor for supplying metered pressurized fluid to external servomotor. The unit has a throttled controlled passage which bypasses the metering motor and has a flow therethrough which has a definite relationship to the flow through the metering motor. In this way a comparatively large amount of pressure fluid can be supplied to the servomotor even though the flow capacity of the metering motor is much smaller.

  • Patent number: 4565497
Abstract: An actuator is described for use in a pump having a pump chamber whose contents are expelled by movement of a pair of pusher plates toward one another. The actuator includes opposed solenoid armatures which are operable for movement between open and closed positions. The armatures are each operatively connected to an associated pusher plate by a main spring which is attached at one end to the back end of the armature, extends through a front-to-back slot in an armature core, and is connected at its opposite end to the pusher plate. A pair of preload springs carried on each armature and disposed on either side of the associated main spring acts to hold the main spring in a prestressed condition prior to solenoid actuation.

  • Patent number: 4564339
Abstract: A scroll compressor in which depletion of the lubricant supply is prevented both during the normal operation of the compressor and at the time the compressor is started. A motor cover having the form of a bottomed cylinder is provided around a driving motor of the compressor at a position so as to separate the path of suctioned gas which is used for cooling the driving motor from a lubricant return path through which lubricant from the lubricant pool formed at the bottom of the housing of the compressor is pumped to lubricate the bearing frame and returned to the lubricant pool. A check valve may be provided within the motor cover.

  • Patent number: 4557672
Abstract: An ice machine pump rebuild kit which enables a repair person to replace the electric motor for the pump and rebuild the pump by providing a kit which enables the drive motor and pump impeller to be replaced from a minimum inventory of replacement components. The kit includes a plurality of pump impellers constructed of plastic material having sufficient rigidity but yet enough flexibility to enable the impeller to slip over and frictionally engage the motor shaft with the impeller shank including a V-shaped slot oriented radially therein to enable the impeller shank to expand to receive and frictionally grip the motor shaft in a secure manner.

  • Patent number: 4557673
Abstract: A chamber structure in a blood pump or the like is described. The structure includes a deformable sac having an annular side wall which is held in a rigid condition, and a pair of opposed circular walls, each joined to the annular side wall through a flexible annular wall portion. A circular pusher plate acting against each circular wall has an initial deflection position at which the associated flexible wall portion in the sac takes the form of a circumferentially uniform roll having an outwardly convex, bulged cross sectional curvature. The rolls in the sac maintain their circumferentially uniform, bulge-like character as the pusher plates are moved toward inwardly moved positions.

  • Patent number: 4551082
Abstract: In a sealed type scroll compressor including an intermediate pressure chamber in which a pressure intermediate in magnitude between a discharge pressure and a suction pressure prevails, a bearing device including a roller bearing and a plain bearing mounted on a frame for supporting a shaft section of a crankshaft. To reduce application of unsymmetrical load to the bearings and prevent an increase in a bearing friction loss, the roller bearing is located in a position close to a crank section of the crankshaft and the plain bearing is located in a position remote from the crank section.

  • Patent number: 4545742
Abstract: A vertical axis hermetic compressor includes an inner cylindrical housing fixed internally of a sealed outer enclosure bearing paired helical screw rotors defining with the inner housing closed thread compressor compression chambers. An electrical drive motor overlies the rotors and is shaft connected to one of the rotors. Compressed refrigerant vapor, where refrigerant is the working fluid, discharges through the motor rotor. A deflector within the top of the outer enclosure such that oil impacted by gas flow discharging axially from the motor adheres to the deflector to provide oil separation.

  • Patent number: 4545746
Abstract: A rotation-preventing/thrust-bearing device for use in an orbiting-member fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed. The rotation-preventing/thrust-bearing device includes a discrete fixed portion, a discrete orbital portion and bearing elements. The fixed portion includes a fixed race and ring placed in a groove in an inner surface of the housing. The fixed race and ring are attached to the housing by pins, and the inner peripheral edge of the groove is caulked to the fixed ring. The orbital portion includes an orbital race and ring placed in a groove in an end plate of the orbiting member. The orbital race and ring are attached to the end plate of the orbiting member by pins, and the outer peripheral edge of the groove in the end plate is caulked to the orbital ring. A plurality of pockets are formed axially in the rings toward the respective races. The pockets of the rings face one another in generally aligned pairs.

  • Patent number: 4540354
Abstract: A rotary pump for pumping liquid which includes a rotor combination in the form of a vane pump or gear and rotor with pumping chambers disposed circumferentially around the rotor. The chambers progressively increase in the inlet area and ensmall in the outlet area. Resilient means are interposed between the ensmalling chambers and an outlet to block backflow of the pressurized outlet liquid into pumping chambers containing vaporized liquid instead of solid liquid, thus reducing the pump noise under conditions of vaporization termed "cavitation".

  • Patent number: 4538976
Abstract: A partition member is fitted within a casing at a location between an end wall of a pump housing accommodated within the casing and an opposed inner end face of the casing and cooperates with the one end wall to define a suction chamber therebetween. A first discharge pressure chamber is defined between an outer peripheral surface of the pump housing and an inner peripheral surface of the casing, and a second discharge pressure chamber between the above opposed inner end face of the casing and the partition member, respectively. The two discharge pressure chambers communicate with each other via passages formed through the partition member and the above end wall of the pump housing. A suction port and a discharge port are formed in the casing at the same axial side thereof, the former opening in the suction chamber in a substantially direct manner.

  • Patent number: 4536133
Abstract: A regulatable vane pump is provided with regulating apparatus incorporated in the pump having a differential pressure piston operable responsive to booster steering flow demand wherein the piston carries a flexible leaf spring having a flat surface which serves as a shut off member against ports in a restrictor member. Actuation of the regulating piston carries the leaf spring toward the ported member to progressively shut off restrictor ports in the face of the ported member, either partially or fully depending upon the ported arrangement. As ports are gradually closed off regulation of the pump discharge is effected at various demand pressures after linear rise of rate of discharge up to a regulating point. Thereafter, there is wide separation of characteristics of regulating curves or lines for differing pressure demands. The overall effect produces a precise regulation within narrow limits as well as an economy of manufacture.
