  • Patent number: 4068468
Abstract: A self-contained pneumatic starting system and method for initiating starting of a gas turbine machine includes a reservoir of pressurized gas which delivers motive gas flow to an expansion type pneumatic motor directly coupled to the compressor of the gas turbine machine for initiating rotation of the compressor during start up. Upon reaching self-sustaining speeds, the compressor delivers a flow of pressurized gas to replenish the reservoir for subsequent starting operation. A pressure amplifier increases the pressure of the recharging gas being supplied to the reservoir. Embodiments for driving the pressure amplifier both hydraulically and pneumatically are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4067667
Abstract: A compressor of the free-piston resonant type driven by an electrodynamic oscillating motor incorporates means to control the stroke to allow for stable operation over a wide range of operating conditions. The spring-mass system of the compressor which is forced into vibration by the electrodynamic oscillating motor is arranged to have a selectively variable natural resonant frequency generally centered on the power line frequency. Variable area port means responsive to any overstroking are operative to vary the natural frequency of the spring-mass system by varying the stiffness of a gas spring means thereof so as to oppose overstroking and also provide for a maximum stroke limit.

  • Patent number: 4065233
Abstract: There is disclosed an electric blower assembly provided with an air guide structure designed such that the current of air expelled from a rotating impeller under the influence of centrifugal force is guided to the body of an electric motor while being accelerated. The air guide structure comprises an air guide block having front and rear compartments. The front compartment includes a plurality of volute chambers designed such that, during flow of air within the volute chambers, the dynamic pressure can be converted into static pressure. The flow of air under the static pressure is subsequently guided at a relatively low pneumatic velocity into the rear compartment and then into the body of the motor to cool the latter. The air used to cool the motor is thereafter exhausted to the outside of the motor.

  • Patent number: 4063853
Abstract: A motor-compressor unit is resiliently mounted within a shell defining a lubricating oil sump. The compressor includes a primary oil pump having its inlet submerged in the oil sump to pump said oil to lubricate various compressor components. A secondary oil pump has its inlet in fluid flow communication with the oil sump. The secondary oil pump agitates said oil and increases the velocity thereof to cause any gas entrained therein to separate therefrom. The separated gas and agitated oil is directed by a distributor radially outward through the oil and over the outside surfaces of the compressor to absorb acoustical energy generated thereby.

  • Patent number: 4062639
Abstract: A high pressure pump comprising a valve body having a first housing secured at one of its ends to one end of the valve body and having a body member secured to the other end thereof. A second housing is secured to the body member with a piston rod movably extending through the body member and the first and second housings. A first piston secured to the piston rod and movably positioned in the first housing defines first and second chambers. A second piston secured to the piston rod and movably positioned in the second housing defines third and fourth chambers. Check valve means are in communication with the third and fourth chambers and sources of fluid to be pumped. The valve body has a pilot valve therein. The pilot valve means is connected to the piston rod so that the pilot valve means will be moved from a first position to a second position when the piston rod moves from a first position to a second position and vice versa. The valve body also has a main valve therein.

  • Patent number: 4060348
Abstract: A rotary roller pump for carrying out sequential pumping of fluid in separate squeezable tubings comprises a stator and a rotor which is provided at opposite ends with rollers, for respective engagement with the tubings, and is so mounted that a gap is provided between an inwardly facing seating of the stator which part-surrounds the rotor, and the rollers for accommodating the tubings which are to be arranged substantially parallel to each other and so as to extend in the general circumferential direction. Each roller comprises two cylindrical and co-axial parts having different diameters such that, with the tubings so accommodated and arranged, the cylindrical part having the larger diameter engages one of the tubing placed between that cylindrical part and the inwardly facing seating in such manner as to exert a pumping action on that tubing when the rotor rotates, whereas the cylindrical part having the smaller diameter does not exert a pumping action on the remaining tubing.

  • Patent number: 4060349
Abstract: The invention relates to a continuous flow meat pump which is in the form of a hollow cylindrical chamber enclosed by a top wall, a bottom wall and a side wall. There is an inlet opening in the top wall and an outlet opening in the side wall, and a movable blocking means is disposed over the inlet opening and can be moved to block, alternately, a first portion or a second portion of the inlet opening. A V-shaped wall is included in the chamber to define a V-shaped chamber portion, and the V-shaped chamber portion is disposed underneath the inlet opening. Openings extend through each of the legs of the V-shaped wall, and flap means, freely movable from one leg to another, are included between the legs in the V-shaped chamber portion. The flap means will cover the opening in one leg at any one time. A vane is disposed in the chamber outside of the V-shaped chamber portion and is movable from the outside surface of one leg to the outside surface of the other leg and back again.

  • Patent number: 4058361
Abstract: A compressor construction is provided which includes a sealed housing having a motor and a compressor unit connected in driving relationship with the motor. The compressor unit is provided with an inlet port which is adapted to receive low pressure fluid therethrough and an outlet port through which the fluid passes under high pressure. The housing includes a housing inlet port that is connected to the compressor unit inlet port through an appropriate conduit. Additionally, a housing outlet port is provided that is aligned with the compressor unit outlet port. However, no direct connection is provided between the compressor unit outlet port and the housing outlet port, thereby providing a compressor construction which substantially eliminates the hydraulic hammer effect and noisy operation of prior compressor constructions.

  • Patent number: 4057366
Abstract: A portable water evacuator generally comprising a cylindrical housing which is adapted to seat over and about the drain opening to contain any water within the housing which should back up through the drain. Within the cylindrical housing is disposed a submersible sump pump for discharging the water collected in the cylindrical housing to a distant point remote from the basement. With the portable water evacuator, when conditions are such that a heavy rain could cause flooding, the water evacuator can be placed over the drain, on a temporary basis. If the water does back up through the drain, the water will be collected in the cylindrical housing and discharged from the basement by the operation of the sump pump. The sump pump stands energized ready for operation, however, the pump is not actuated unless water actually is collected in the cylindrical housing.
