  • Patent number: 4054401
Abstract: A vacuum pump, having a pumping chamber with intake and exhaust ports communicating therewith, is provided with an arrangement to insert a liquid lubricant into the pumping chamber. A sensing device is utilized to detect the pressure at the exhaust port, the sensing device permitting operation of a deactivating unit when the pressure at the exhaust port falls below a predetermined value, pressure below the predetermined value being indicative of improper pumping action in the pump. The deactivating unit acts to render inoperative the lubricant introducing arrangement when the sensing device detects a pressure at the exhaust port below the predetermined value, thus precluding the insertion of lubricant into the pumping chamber upon the occurrence of defective pumping action in the vacuum pump.

  • Patent number: 4052135
Abstract: A helical screw air compressor unit has a rotary capacity control valve, a compressor inlet throttling valve, and a pressure relief valve for venting the compressor discharge conduit. A control circuit senses pressure in the compressed air supply system downstream of the compressor and operates the capacity control valve, inlet throttling valve, and pressure relief valve in a predetermined sequence to provide an improved power consumption characteristic for variable demand compressor applications. The control circuit includes a hydraulic control valve and an actuator for operating the rotary capacity control valve to regulate compressor throughput to maintain a predetermined pressure without overpressuring the supply system during operation at conditions of reduced demand for compressed air.

  • Patent number: 4051670
Abstract: A centrally disposed vent is positioned adjacent the low pressure region of recirculating gases in a combustor or augmentor of the type used in gas turbine engines, allowing gas to be abstracted from the core of the recirculating region, thereby causing a reduction in static pressure, and a strengthening and stabilizing of the recirculating flow pattern. Combustion occurring in the recirculating gas is intensified by virtue of higher mixing rates, and flame stability is enhanced by virtue of increased stability of the recirculating flow pattern. The vent is shown employed in a premixing tube device for use in gas turbine engine main combustors. Alternative main combustor and augmentor combustor configurations are shown.

  • Patent number: 4050237
Abstract: A demister assembly is provided for removing and reclaiming liquids from gases, and particularly engine lubricating oil aerosols from leakage air in gas turbine engines. When in series connection to an air vent line from a gas turbine engine, the demister strips out oil from the air before it is vented overboard while producing a moderate noise reduction and imposing only slightly higher back pressure on the system.By increasing in number selected demister components, the noise reduction can be significantly increased with minimal increase in back pressure, combining a silencer function with the demister function.

  • Patent number: 4048798
Abstract: An engine which includes a combustion chamber and a work function chamber enclosing the combustion chamber. A burner means is located in the combustion chamber for combustion. A rotatable turbine wheel is further mounted in an inlet of the work function chamber with one side of the blades in communication with the ambient atmosphere and the other side in communication with the interior of the work function chamber. The products of combustion are rapidly cooled and continuously removed from the combustion chamber by an exhaust means of the venturi type. This serves to create a pressure differential and provide a continuous stream of high velocity airflow against and through the blades of the turbine, through the work function chamber and out through the exhaust means. In this manner, a rapid rotative movement is provided for the turbine wheel and power output is taken from it and from the output shaft on which it is mounted.

  • Patent number: 4047849
Abstract: A pneumatic pump adapted primarily as a left ventricular heart assist device includes a flexible bladder with a rigid housing. A pneumatic driver applies rhymical pulses between the bladder and the housing to repetitively collapse the bladder and establish a pumping action through the bladder, in conjunction with check valves in the inlet and outlet to the bladder. Between the driver and the pump there is provided a pneumatic pulse limiter which includes a flexible diaphragm isolating the driver from the pump. Pulses from the driver are transmitted to the pump only through the flexible diaphragm and the diaphragm is constrained to move only within established limits. Regardless of the magnitude of the pulse from the driver, the maximum pulse applied to the pump cannot exceed that corresponding to the maximum displacement of the diaphragm.Between successive pulses, the portion of the system between the driver and the flexible diaphragm is depressurized.

  • Patent number: 4043713
Abstract: The fuel channel leading from the pressure chamber of a fuel injection pump to the injection nozzles includes a volume containing a valve spring and formed by a cap threadedly engaging the valve body. This cap also provides an axial force which clamps internal elements of the valve mechanism into firm and sealing contact. An elastic insert, whose contours are similar to those of the cap, is located within the cap. This insert deforms under the force of the threaded cap and provides an elastic force reservoir which maintains the clamping and sealing force even when the cap is slightly loosened.

  • Patent number: 4043712
Abstract: The invention concerns a novel adjustable roller pump assembly of the type comprising a semi-circular plate against the inner surface of which a flexible tube is located and a pair of diametrically arranged cylindrical rollers mounted on a driven rotatable body. The invention is related to a special means for adjusting the distance between the axes of the rollers so that the degree which the rollers compress the flexible tube can be adjusted. This means comprises an adjustment shaft rotatable about an axis transverse of the axis of rotation of the rotatable body and having at its ends cylindrical locating elements eccentric to the axis of rotation of the adjustment shaft, said locating elements acting on arms on which rollers are mounted so that adjustment of the adjustment shaft displaces the arms and hence the rollers.

  • Patent number: 4042311
Abstract: A pressure fluid engine of single acting cylinder type has a directional control valve and a master valve with a spool and two valve seats. The spool is formed on a piston rod extending from a piston in the cylinder, the rod passing through a cylindrical disc of the directional control valve. One of the valve seats is provided in the disc to unseal the pilot operating fluid when it cooperates with the spool at a dead point. Another valve seat for the spool is provided in one of the valve chambers of the directional control valve to unseal the pilot operating fluid when it cooperates with the spool at the other dead point. The directional control valve is actuated by means of directional control of a pilot operating fluid with the master valve, in order to reverse the direction of the piston when the piston reaches one of the dead points.
