For example, in response to determining that a user recently finished the laundry, the media guidance application may recommend a movie that other users accessed after finishing the laundry.

Abstract: Embodiments provide methods, systems, and apparatuses for multicast broadcast multimedia service (MBMS)-assisted content distribution in a wireless communication network. A proxy terminal may include an MBMS access client configured to receive and cache an MBMS transmission including media data and metadata. The proxy terminal may further include a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) server module configured to transmit at least a portion of the media data to a user equipment (UE) of the wireless communication network via an HTTP transmission. The media data and metadata may be in a dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) format. The proxy terminal may be included in an evolved Node B (eNB), the UE, or another UE of the wireless communication network.

The method includes receiving, at the electronic device, an indication to switch a video output between a first mode and a second mode. The first mode includes the video input occupying a full display screen, and the second mode includes the video input occupying less than the full display screen. The method includes receiving, at the electronic device, information corresponding to the video input. In the second mode, the information occupies a portion of the full display screen. The method includes transmitting, from a second port of the electronic device, the video output for displaying the video output on a display external to the electronic device.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for estimating audience member engagement with content, or distinguishing between users consuming content and users who have become distracted or have left. User presence or attention may be estimated from user interactions with or skipping of content, with the user interactions either compared to high quality engagement data from small audience measurement panels, or extrapolated based on a temporal-engagement curve. An attention gap may be estimated, representing users that were not present for or not engaged with or paying attention to a presentation of content at a client device. This allows the measurement system to distinguish between users who consumed and potentially enjoyed the content, and users who did not, even as client devices of both sets of users receive and present the content items.

Abstract: A method of managing visual content. In one instance, the method includes receiving a stream of video fingerprints, derived in a fingerprint generator by an irreversible data reduction process, from respective temporal regions within a particular visual content stream and at a fingerprint processor that is physically separate from the fingerprint generator via a communication network. The fingerprints are processed in the fingerprint processor to generate metadata which is not directly encoded in the fingerprints. Processing of the fingerprints includes windowing the stream of fingerprints with a time window, deriving frequencies of occurrence of particular fingerprint values or ranges of fingerprint values within each time window, determining statistical moments or entropy values of said frequencies of occurrence, comparing said statistical moments or entropy values with expected values for particular types of content, and generating metadata representing the type of the visual content.

The control block acquires trigger information and, on the basis of a command obtained from the acquired trigger information, acquires a data broadcast application from an application server on the Internet or a data broadcast application transmitted as NRT content of an NRT service using a FLUTE session by referencing an FDT identified by an SMT and an NRT-IT. In accordance with a command obtained from the acquired trigger information, the control block controls an operation of the acquired application program. The present technology is applicable to television receivers configured to receive digital television broadcast signals.

Abstract: A content receiver determines that a communication connection recipient identifier is associated with content received from a content provider. An associated communication device is identified by the content receiver. The content receiver then signals the communication device to initiate a communication connections utilizing the communication identifier. In some implementations, the content receiver may provide a user with a notification and may signal the communication device after receiving a responses to the notification. In one or more implementations, the communication connection recipient identifiers may be telephone numbers, the communication devices may be telecommunication devices, and the communication connections may be telephone connections.

Abstract: A method includes receiving, at a control server from a first terminal, first input selecting a first media device and a second media device. The first media device and the second media device are coupled to a media switch. The method includes updating control data to generate updated control data in response to the first input. The updated control data associates the first media device with a location of a facility. The location is associated with a port number of a particular controller. The method also includes sending a signal from the control server to the media switch to instruct the media switch to send a first video output of the first media device and a second video output of the second media device to the first terminal.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing playback devices with trick play functionality are described. The system includes a playback device, e.g., without recording capability, and a gateway device with multiple tuner-demodulators and/or a cable modem and recording capability. During normal playback, in some embodiments, both the playback device and gateway receive content in parallel with the gateway recording content at the request of the playback device and supplying the content over the local network when a user of the playback device requests a trick play operation. A single gateway, with multiple tuner demodulator pairs and/or a cable modem, supports trick play functions. In some embodiments if the number of playback devices exceeds the number of tuner-demodulator pairs in the gateway, the playback device can stream content to the gateway for recording and to be returned via the local network in the event of a request for a trick play operation.

Abstract: Methods and systems to release network bandwidth for a new video stream. One method includes the following steps: receiving, by a first real-time video encoder (RT-VE), a first incoming high-definition uncompressed video (HD-UV), compressing it into a first compressed video using a first low compression ratio, and sending it over a first network path to a first real-time video decoder (RT-VD). Extracting, by the first RT-VD, an outgoing HD-UV from the first compressed video. Inferring that after establishing the first network path, and as a result of insufficient bandwidth on a common link comprised in the first network path, a second RT-VE cannot send a second compressed video to a second RT-VD over a second network path that includes the common link. And Increasing on-the-fly the first compression ratio in proportion to the insufficient bandwidth, in a manner that is visually lossless for a human viewing the outgoing HD-UV.

Abstract: Techniques for generating multimedia feed based on customer specific application software running on customer datacenters and/or cloud are described. In one example embodiment, a request to dynamically render multimedia feed associated with the customer specific application software is received via a user's multimedia device. The user's privileges are then verified by mapping the user to a defined one of roles. The customer relevant data is then obtained using news feed plug-ins based on the outcome of verified user's privileges. A three-dimensional (3D) multimedia feed is then generated by compiling the obtained customer relevant data. The three-dimensional (3D) multimedia feed is then dynamically rendered to the user's multimedia device.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to detect user attentiveness to handheld computing devices are disclosed. An example handheld computing device includes a detector to detect at least one of an orientation change of the handheld computing device or a distance change between the handheld computing device and a user, and a comparator to determine user attentiveness to a presentation on the handheld computing device based on the at least one of the orientation change of the handheld computing device or the distance change between the handheld computing device and the user.

Specifically, the media guidance application detects communications from the user to other devices and based on that communication determines whether or not to modify a level of access restriction to media content.

Abstract: A system includes a user receiving device that receives content broadcast from a service provider, presents the received content on a display to be viewed by a user, receives a bookmark request signal generated in response to input from the user, generates a bookmark based on the bookmark request signal, and transmits the bookmark from the user receiving device. A storage device remotely located from the user receiving device receives the bookmark from the user receiving device and stores the bookmark with a plurality of bookmarks associated with the user. The plurality of bookmarks stored in the storage device are accessible by the user using a second screen device.
