  • Patent number: 6771655
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing transportation of data include processing that begins by polling a plurality of local memory entities for transportation of data, wherein the polling is based on a linked list. When a currently polled local memory entity has data to transport, the processing obtains channels status of a logical channel associated with the currently polled memory entity. Note that the data to transport is contained within a data word that includes a data portion and a tag. Regardless of whether the data to transport is to be transported from local memory to non-local memory or from the non-local memory to local memory, the processing determines data block status based on the data word, wherein the data block is stored in non-local memory. Next, the processing provides, or retrieves, the data portion of the data word to, or from, the non-local memory based on at least one of the channel status, the data word, and the data block status.

  • Patent number: 6757247
Abstract: A method for controlling virtual connections between endpoints over a unidirectional ring network. The network includes a number of network elements coupled together to form segments of the ring network. The method receives a request to create a virtual connection between first and second endpoints on the ring network. The method identifies the segments of the ring network that would be affected by the addition of the connection between the first and second endpoints. Further, the method retrieves data that represents the currently allocated capacity for each affected segment. For each affected segment, the method determines whether adding the requested virtual connection would exceed the capacity for the segment. The method transmits signals over the ring to establish the virtual connection when adding the virtual connection does not exceed the capacity for any of the affected segments.

  • Patent number: 6744747
Abstract: Techniques for improved handoff searching in asynchronous systems, such as W-CDMA, are disclosed. In one aspect, a two-step search procedure is used when a list of neighbor codes is known. In the first step, a received signal is correlated with a slot timing code to locate on or more pilots and the slot boundaries associated therewith. In the second step, the received signal is correlated with each of the list of codes at the slot boundaries identified with pilots in the first step to identify the pilot code and the frame timing associated with each pilot. Various other aspects of the invention are also presented. These aspects have the benefit of decreasing search time, which translates to increased acquisition speed, higher quality signal transmission, increased data throughput, decreased power, and improved overall system capacity.

  • Patent number: 6738374
Abstract: Speech is transmitted between a base station (BTS) and a TRAU by converting a speech signal into a parameter group which is inserted in a traffic frame which is transmitted as a packet comprising a header and a payload. In accordance with the invention, the payload is formed of the contents of several traffic frames until the payload is essentially full, and a packet is sent to the destination via the transmission network. At the destination the traffic frames are separated from the payload of the received packets and they are passed to a speech decoder. The packing of packets full can be started about a second after the beginning of the connection and after pauses, in which case the ending of a pause is transmitted to the listener as fast as possible.

  • Patent number: 6714548
Abstract: A clock recovery mechanism for an ATM receiver recovers a service (source) clock transmitted over an ATM network. The mechanism includes an input for receiving an SRTS from the ATM network, a local SRTS generator for locally generating an SRTS, a comparator for comparing a received SRTS and a locally generated SRTS and a recovered service clock generator responsive to an output of the comparator for generating the recovered service clock and for controlling the local SRTS generator. The locally generated SRTS is compared directly with the received SRTS. The local SRTS is generated using the same method as used to generate the transmitted SRTS, that is using the network clock fnx and a locally generated clock, at frequency fs. The difference between the locally generated SRTS and the received SRTS can be expressed directly in a number of fnx pulse clocks to be added or removed to the generated fs clock. Thus a service clock can be recovered at a receiver location using SRTSs by means of a digital technique.
