  • Patent number: 7602709
Abstract: A network device implements congestion management of sessions of a network protocol. In one implementation, an incoming request component receives session requests for a negotiation session between the network device and a second network device. A capacity pool stores a value relating to capacity of the network device to continue to efficiently process the session requests. New sessions are initiated when the value stored in the capacity pool is less than an estimate of the capacity of the network device at which the network device maximizes processor usage while minimizing session timeouts.

  • Patent number: 7599305
Abstract: A new approach to creating network-centric systems such as those used in warfare and for other purposes is provided. One technique for providing a collaborative capability that achieves a high level of asset utilization includes the steps of specifying a role for each node in a system, assigning a pre-defined functionality level to each node as a function of the node's role in the system, and allowing each node to share information with other nodes in the system according to each node's capabilities using the assigned functionality level. Data sharing and collaboration between nodes having different assigned functionality levels may be facilitated by adjusting the functionality level for at least one of the nodes such that both are able to communicate at the same level. The adjustment in functionality may take place directly between the nodes, or may be processed by a gateway or other intervening system.

  • Patent number: 7583607
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and a corresponding method, for designating and implementing support level agreements (SLAs). A customer forwards a query defining required resources. Predetermined support level agreement options are then provided to the user based upon the required resources. The customer then forwards their selection of a particular predetermined support level agreement, which includes a plurality of measurement monitors and corresponding non-compliance thresholds defined therein. Based upon the particular support level agreement selected by the customer, service for that customer is enabled.

  • Patent number: 7580390
Abstract: Frequency estimation information obtained when a wireless communication device (WCD) is in one wireless communication system, such as frequency error or offset information, may be translated to a corresponding frequency error in another system, thereby allowing the WCD to perform a handover to the other system with reduced initial frequency error. As a result, the acquisition time involved in acquiring a signal in the other system may be significantly reduced.

  • Patent number: 7577142
Abstract: A method of operating a switch for frames in a computer network uses one or more indicia of frame type designation found in the received frame to derive a virtual local area network (derived VLAN) value. Also, an indicia of the receiving port may be used in constructing the derived VLAN value. The switch then uses the derived VLAN value in making forwarding decisions. Broadcast domains in the computer network may then be controlled by forwarding in response to the derived VLAN value.

  • Patent number: 7573813
Abstract: A method routes packets in a wireless network which includes a control node and a multiplicity of individual nodes. The method includes: inserting a routing logical address into each packet which is transmitted between a sending node and a destination node, wherein the routing logical address contains the full routing information required to route the packet from the sending node to the destination node along a communication path prescribed by the routing logical address; detecting any unsuccessfully transmitted packets; detecting a faulty node in the communication path prescribed by the routing logical address in response to detecting an unsuccessfully transmitted packet; and changing the routing logical address of the unsuccessfully transmitted packet to a new routing logical address which prescribes a new communication path which does not include the detected faulty node.

  • Patent number: 7570583
Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for coupling a SONET/SDH network to a routing network that does not have a single point of failure. Multiple routers are coupled between the SONET/SDH network and the routing network, one for each data path; for example, a first router for the working data path and a second router for the protection data path. The routers intercommunicate to force APS to switch data paths bidirectionally, so as to allow only a single router for each data path.

  • Patent number: 7570657
Abstract: An autonegotiation circuit for gigabit per second Ethernet networks includes a switch with 1000BASE-X media. A gigabit interface connector (GBIC) module connects the switch to the device and allows autonegotiation. The switch includes a first GBIC interface with a transmitter and a receiver. The GBIC module includes a second GBIC interface with a transmitter and a receiver and a first copper interface with a transmitter and a receiver. The device includes a second copper interface with a transmitter and a receiver. The GBIC module waits for non-zero configuration ordered sets from the switch. The GBIC module stores configuration information from the switch and then sends FLP bursts to the device. 1000BASE-T autonegotiation is completed and a link is established between the GBIC module and the device. The GBIC module stores second configuration information from the device. Then, the GBIC module completes 1000BASE-X autonegotiation and establishes a link.

  • Patent number: 7561526
Abstract: A communications network comprises a plurality of linked nodes between a source and a destination. At each node the state of the network and its links are measured and stored with advertisements from other links. The node also performs a routing algorithm to define the instantaneously best path to the destination for the current network state. The routing algorithm responds to a plurality of metrics, including costs of links, and may use fuzzy logic which derives a fuzzy cost for candidate paths to derive a least fuzzy cost path to be followed. Traffic is shared between a path which is determined to be the best, at the current point in time, and a path which has previously been determined as the best path. The network can be a network which carries mobile cellular traffic.

  • Patent number: 7561534
Abstract: A number of techniques are described for routing methods that improve resistance to faults affecting groups of links subject to common risks. One of these techniques accounts for failure potentials in physical networks by considering shared risk link groups separately from performance and costs metrics in determining a primary routing path and a backup path. A shared risk link group (SRLG) is an attribute attached to a link to identify edges that have physical links in common and can therefore be simultaneously disrupted due to a single fault. Another technique considers node disjointness and provides a solution of two paths that are as node disjoint as possible and minimizes administrative costs. The techniques may further be combined in a priority order thereby providing a solution of at least two paths that are strictly SRLG disjoint, as node-disjoint as possible, and have minimum administrative costs.

  • Patent number: 7554994
Abstract: An integrated processor-controlled router and switch fabric architecture provides connectivity between local area network (LAN) ports serving a plurality of local area network users and a wide area network (WAN) port that provides connectivity with the internet. IEEE 802.1Q virtual local area network (VLAN) trunks are automatically created by the processor in response to a reduced set of command inputs. No user-configurable physical link exists between the switch fabric and the router. Instead, a virtual IEEE 802.1Q trunk is created through software to provide connectivity between the switch fabric and the router's control processor.
